Surprised IDS still isn't hanging it up tbh

Luke the nuke's old tweets over my TL, and look at this gem from ten years ago.

And now a completely offensive and gratuitous comparison between Apartheid and the Israel/Palestine conflict from a delegate #Lab14

Good, short thread on the 'soft left'

Starmer himself is of that faction. He has no control over the Lab right and they will come for him sooner or later.

thing about the soft left is they try to please everyone and so when the right comes for them they have no real allies. hence executions like this. https://t.co/hTCnYc89PD

This is a pretty amazing night of the long knives. It's hard to be fully sympathetic to people who haven't already recognised what the Labour Party has become, but I'm enjoying the mask coming fully off. I don't care how much anybody equivocates about getting the Tories out, we've reached the stage where voting Labour would be the height of amorality

Always going to happen when you don't get rid of these freaks. Had a chance, now gone.

demanding that Akehurst be banned from standing as a Labour candidate due to his troubling links with Trotskyists:

Labour Party National Executive right-winger Luke Akehurst has posted on Twitter to recommend an article by Solidarity contributor Sean Matgamna on left antisemitism. “Quite a read”, he says.

True enough. But how does Akehurst reconcile his support for purging people from the Labour Party just for social media “likes”, “shares”, or “retweets” of Workers’ Liberty output with his own tweet?

The ban on Workers’ Liberty passed by the National Executive in spring 2022 had a “dispensation” saying it was all right for people to attend Workers’ Liberty meetings if they were “debating”, and that exemption seemed to have been motivated by the fact that in 2016 Akehurst spoke (in debate) at the Workers’ Liberty summer school.

This is somewhat point missing as this crowd came out of Labour.

Imagine if, instead of standing around like turkeys waiting to be shot, the Labour left had used their networks, resources and popularity, the stadiums full of young people turning out for left wing politics, to build something better. oh well! better luck next time dickheads!

i love a man in a unicorn (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 30 May 2024 16:14 (two years ago)

start a new party of butthurt Labour moderates whose main flagship policy is to fight for more legal appeals + remedies for when MPs are deselected!

i love a man in a unicorn (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 30 May 2024 16:26 (two years ago)

it's not nice or legit, the way she was treated. But just feel like MPs who keep a low profile and sleepwalk through the job and don't criticise the vile direction taken by Starmer, they only seem to get angry when they get fucked over themselves. There are millions of ppl getting fucked over every day in this country, to help these ppl is often cited as the reason why MPs joined the Labour Party, and of course about 90% of these fuckers are lying through their teeth.

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Thursday, 30 May 2024 16:33 (two years ago)

My friend worked under Chris Ward, Starmer's advisor who's being imposed as a candidate in Brighton. My friend alleges Ward "basically bullied me out of the job. It was unrelenting: gaslighting, passive-aggressive." He says when he told Ward he was disabled, Ward "ramped it up." https://t.co/xg8x2pEvEZ

I think a big part of this, now knowing that she’s got a young baby, was her trying not to attract the endless hate and threats others have got, especially when you know the party leadership and/or their spokespeople won’t stick up for you and will probably further inflame the situation by comparing you to a flea or something.

Roman Anthony gets on his horse (gyac), Thursday, 30 May 2024 18:23 (two years ago)

if they all weren't so cowed by Starmer, including McD who has been silent, then there wouldn't be any unpleasant surprises a month before a GE. I know it's harsh but I have no respect for MPs who are treading water/doing bland canvassing pics and campaigning for a nasty right-wing shitshow and going silent while soft left candidates are getting deselected etc.. There is no point being in the party if you are too shook by Kieth to actually be a participant in political arguments anymore imo.

glumdalclitch, Thursday, 30 May 2024 21:27 (two years ago)

They agree, so they won’t.

Heard a Labour ad on YouTube while watching Boston sports radio, Starmer starts in his horrible nasally voice

“I came into politics to get things done”

Then there’s a clip of him at Labour conference
“I grew up” small pause “working class”
applause

Genuinely came across like someone fed Calz’s most pointed comments about him into an ai ad generator

He's a bandit and a heartbreaker
Oh, his daddy was a toolmaker

oh the crime nowadays back in my day you could leave your door unlocke (Matt #2), Thursday, 30 May 2024 21:50 (two years ago)

during the cultural revolution in China ppl like Starmer's dad would have had struggle board with "bourgeois capitalist roader scum" on it tied around their neck and the red guard's might have thrown him off a bridge after cutting his balls off. Sometimes extremely easy decisions have to be made!

Could you imagine being such a dishonest operator, so lacking in self-awareness and basic human decency that your dad owned the Oxted Toolmaking Company and you went to a posh school, and yet you allude to "struggles" that you have experienced. Fuck and die Kieth.

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Thursday, 30 May 2024 22:21 (two years ago)

Starmer's dad apparently campaigned for Corbyn in 2017!

glumdalclitch, Thursday, 30 May 2024 22:23 (two years ago)

(fuck off and die I meant - no more fucking, kieth!)

in 2017 Corbyn was hot!

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Thursday, 30 May 2024 22:27 (two years ago)

Well okay but Keir resigned from the shad cab in 2016 so it's fair to assume his dad had/has different politics from him, but of course I don't know more than that. I do remember reading somewhere that his dad was disgusted at his son's behaviour at that time

glumdalclitch, Thursday, 30 May 2024 22:37 (two years ago)

Err, had, obviously. He died in 2018

glumdalclitch, Thursday, 30 May 2024 22:39 (two years ago)

wasn't Kieth one of the first chicken coupers to come back into the fold? can't remember. It's not a stretch to imagine his dad wasn't as awful as him, few are.

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Thursday, 30 May 2024 22:43 (two years ago)

Uma Kumaran, a Starmer loyalist and former Starmer speechwriter, has been selected for the ultra-safe seat of Stratford and Bow

If I could vote I'd vote for Halima Khan, the whistleblower in the Al-J doc "The Labour Files" - standing as an independent - https://www.ajiunit.com/investigation/the-labour-files/

We also have a candidate from the Revolutionary Communist Party but i'm not sure i'm ready for that
