Tried Wordall but the inability to backspace using the keyboard is a non-starter for me.
― Bottom Cruise (Leee), Wednesday, 22 May 2024 22:10 (four weeks ago) link
managed to shave 1 sec off my best Wordall time today. even with a mistake.
― kinder, Thursday, 23 May 2024 12:48 (four weeks ago) link
yesterday I had never heard of Ovula; today on the Wordall another word I've never seen and one I was iffy about.

Anyone's Connections not working today? The other games seem OK
― kinder, Thursday, 30 May 2024 09:02 (three weeks ago) link
Works for me, got it with no errors.
― bored by endless ecstasy (anagram), Thursday, 30 May 2024 09:16 (three weeks ago) link
Wordle seems like it's down to just words with two of the same letter now.
― nashwan, Thursday, 30 May 2024 09:18 (three weeks ago) link
Connections came back for me, got it no errors woohoo
― kinder, Thursday, 30 May 2024 09:42 (three weeks ago) link
today's wordle sucked
― Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 30 May 2024 10:23 (three weeks ago) link
My 16 year old son beat me at Wordle today (him 4 me 5) - a disgusting development
― Cognosc in Tyrol (emsworth), Thursday, 30 May 2024 11:10 (three weeks ago) link
3 for me today, I don't see the problem. :) I've also been enjoying Order Up lately.
― Jordan s/t (Jordan), Thursday, 30 May 2024 17:43 (three weeks ago) link
if you get a hit on the “wrong” greens first there could be like 20 different possibilities
― Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 30 May 2024 17:45 (three weeks ago) link
so plan two steps ahead and pick a word that maximally reduces the number of possible words?
― flopson, Thursday, 30 May 2024 18:20 (three weeks ago) link
wordle ate my streak between yesterday and today for some reason
― mookieproof, Thursday, 30 May 2024 18:23 (three weeks ago) link
Today’s connections was v ilx-y
― sarahell, Friday, 31 May 2024 13:40 (three weeks ago) link
yes!
xp I think I had two of my lowest-ever wordle luck scores yesterday and the day before (18/99 and 19/99)
― Dan S, Friday, 31 May 2024 22:30 (three weeks ago) link
for Connections, today's was the first of those I've done where there was definitely a group of four that neatly fit into a category but which wasn't an answer: Fuji, Canon, Polaroid and Olympus are all brands of cameras
― silverfish, Saturday, 1 June 2024 01:55 (two weeks ago) link
yeah that was my first guess as well, i was not pleased
― polyamerie "it's more than this 1 thing" (m bison), Saturday, 1 June 2024 01:57 (two weeks ago) link
I made that mistake too, it was annoying. Anyway, 'shake it like a polaroid' is a very outdated term referring to the past with Fuji peel-apart films, today's polaroids are integral films with the film development occurring between protective layers, and with much more painterly results, and there is no shaking, just initially shielding from light
― Dan S, Saturday, 1 June 2024 02:13 (two weeks ago) link
the Fuji peel-apart films in decades past were referred to as polaroids, but only because the Polaroid company (and its very different process) became synonymous with instant film
― Dan S, Saturday, 1 June 2024 02:32 (two weeks ago) link
The US-centric nature of Connections continues to be the most infuriating thing about it. 'stat' meaning 'don't delay' isn't something I've heard of .
― I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Saturday, 1 June 2024 08:20 (two weeks ago) link
what do they say in UK hospitals?
― jaymc, Saturday, 1 June 2024 08:26 (two weeks ago) link
also, it's Latin: https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/statim
― jaymc, Saturday, 1 June 2024 08:28 (two weeks ago) link
I've never heard it used so not sure what it's equivalent to.
― I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Saturday, 1 June 2024 08:54 (two weeks ago) link
if i was a real head i’d come up with a name for when you solve the hardest tier first and then get the rest in descending order of difficulty but actually i don’t give a shit
― Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 1 June 2024 08:59 (two weeks ago) link
I'm British and I've heard of it so I got that line, however I had never heard of any on the blue line so crashed out.
― bored by endless ecstasy (anagram), Saturday, 1 June 2024 09:07 (two weeks ago) link
I did that camera thing too. very Only-Connecty
― kinder, Saturday, 1 June 2024 09:32 (two weeks ago) link
I’ve only heard “stat” used in hospitals and TV shows like ER.
― that's not my post, Saturday, 1 June 2024 15:31 (two weeks ago) link
Yeah it’s hospital jargon, not commonplace US speech
Only everyone of a certain age in the US knows it because of ER
― Cemetry Gaetz (DJP), Saturday, 1 June 2024 20:19 (two weeks ago) link
connections: never heard of threading or b-school. i'd say vitamin b but there is this so okay i guess... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B_vitamins
― ledge, Monday, 3 June 2024 08:02 (two weeks ago) link
I got the first one as part of my first group, it's pretty well-known I'd say? The second, I only got that group by what was left at the end and thought the same.
― kinder, Monday, 3 June 2024 08:04 (two weeks ago) link
Yeah, thought purple was pretty crap today.
― Overly dramatic elevator music (Dan Peterson), Monday, 3 June 2024 11:13 (two weeks ago) link
Purple was a shrug emoji. glad didn’t actually need to name the category
― that's not my post, Monday, 3 June 2024 14:16 (two weeks ago) link
Purple was very dumb today but yellow was pretty straightforward, I thought
― Cemetry Gaetz (DJP), Monday, 3 June 2024 17:08 (two weeks ago) link
ok connections tomorrow's purple will be D -
― that's not my post, Tuesday, 4 June 2024 15:08 (two weeks ago) link
I'm hoping one of the words tomorrow will be Beat.

I got purple but my connection was places where men flex
― sarahell, Thursday, 6 June 2024 17:32 (two weeks ago) link
I did have to laugh at this Connections category yesterday: Feeling Some Type of Way
― Overly dramatic elevator music (Dan Peterson), Monday, 10 June 2024 12:45 (one week ago) link
today's purple was very esoteric, what "cross" might mean, I only got it because it was left over
― Dan S, Tuesday, 11 June 2024 00:50 (one week ago) link
Today's Connections was a bit of a head-scratcher but I got it with 2 mistakes left.
― bored by endless ecstasy (anagram), Tuesday, 11 June 2024 06:30 (one week ago) link
I thought the Connections was very straightforward today; my only hesitation was one category initially seemed to have six members so I had to ignore it at first while I built a couple of the others.

I've gotten into the habit of reading the comments after I do the NYT crossword, and the boomers do get testy when there's a contemporary pop-culture reference or bit of slang they've never heard.

Was a little surprised at MANGA as a clearly not English word in yesterday's wordle.
― Jordan s/t (Jordan), Tuesday, 11 June 2024 20:54 (one week ago) link
yeah I tried it expecting to see "Not a word" but I couldn't think of anything else
― frogbs, Tuesday, 11 June 2024 20:54 (one week ago) link
pretty lucky first guess I must admit

It's enough to put me off Wordle, not that anyone will notice, or, if theydid, care.
something poignant about this one

It's a fairly recent loanword, but it's in the dictionary, so it's an English word as much as "coffee" or "pundit" or sth like half of our language is.

TY to the person that mentioned WordAll, it's a fun extension of the wordle concept.
― that's not my post, Tuesday, 11 June 2024 21:36 (one week ago) link
camaraderie otm I admit I was a little surprised that NYT editors selected it, but it's absolutely valid. Certainly no less so than SUSHI, which was the word back in November.
