tbc I don't think the change in tone here is due to "self-censorship" so much as people growing and realising that some shit is hurtful and unfunny

Yeah I think it's fascinating to see self-censorship at work.Not that I don't think we have effectively progressed on a number of issues and that some old posts weren't preposterous. But to see it as a social phenomenon is humbling - I would not dare to judge too harshly ILX posts from 20 years ago, knowing that the confrontation is ongoing, and our own era is not short of pre/misconceptions.

I meant it in a more neutral way: what you feel is socially / publicly acceptable to say. I assume most people find a way to say what they mean, but it's interesting to see how - that's where it's telling about society.
Of course it's dynamic. "Most of us" is the crux of the matter isn't it, if you speak of shifts.

jesus, last time I wore 28 waist jeans, 56k dial up modems were cutting edge tech

I just had to upgrade my normal jeans from 32 to 34 because of stubborn lockdown weight gain. I am less upset about the weight gain now that I have pants that fit me again!

I wear a 34 waist. There was a time when I wore a 36 but then I got diabetes and lost like 25 pounds in a few weeks and have never gone back up.

Not a recommended weight loss regimen.

I have a baseless feeling that Ozempic® is gonna turn out to be something not that great in the future.. maybe not Thalidomide, but still a problem

Was Alfred-sized (29) until approximately the pandemic, am now "not technically obese" (34-ish, 5'9")
& I'm fine with that I just don't wanna get diabetes.
When I see photos of myself from 5 years ago I look way too skinny, like to a degree that it's super weird, even though I somehow felt a little pudgy then.
Guess the happy medium would be 32 waist

I know someone whose mom died from taking the old school diet pills… dexatrim I think? I remember the ads from when I was a kid
