If you're irrational for being angry about this then I must be irrational too. I have two bosses, two separate companies, plus another employee at one of those companies, that I still have so much anger toward. If you want to go further back I have a stepfather I haven't seen in about 35 years who is fucking lucky I live on the other side of the world because if I now, as an adult, saw him on the street, i'd rip his fucking head off.

The Red Cross is always running promotions for blood drives - a gift card with each donation, a t-shirt, etc. - but whenever I donate I'm never given the promotional offer. I know I'm not there for the shirt or whatever, and I would (and do) donate for nothing, but it still feels like a bait and switch.

IA in that it's meaningless thing and I can just not answer (and often don't), but anytime I get in my car, throw my tunes on, and someone calls me twenty seconds into the first song.

i’m getting more & more irrationally angry at 30-something podcasters who seem to have an entire ouevre of talking about things I love but were too young to experience & so they’re going to tell it all back to me like a game of telephone

Riot Grrl was several years earlier than the Spice Girls

Bikini Kill’s first record was 1990 (checked), Bratmobile had recordings out in 1991, Huggy Bear’s first was 1992 (clearly burnt into brain)

Riot Grrrl (three Rs, take note) UK was over by the time Elastica started getting hyped - I remember a Bratmobile show in London where Frischmann and her friends (various Blur girlfriends before Jo from Huggy Bear started an LTR with Graham Coxon) turned up with crossed-arms body language and new haircuts.

A lot of fanzine kids (my peers, although I never did my own zine because I was employed as a music writer within a year of leaving uni) started Riot Grrrl in the US; the dedicated zines and Bikini Kill’s first recordings came out in 1991 - the Revolution Girl Style Now cassette. The first group not of the scene to co-opt RG was probably Shampoo, who ran a Manics fanzine (so not too far off, really). They had a Girl Power single before the future Spice Girls answered the help aanted ads in The Stage.
