why do you care milo

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 20:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Curious. I think I'm ten episodes behind now, guess I should wait for the DVD.

milo z, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 20:55 (seventeen years ago) link

I am going to pretend the show ended after the last episode, because this one was so crappy I almost cried. So much bad acting, and the theme of it all, and the dialogue, and... Jesus, Rob Thomas, what did you DO! It's turned into a bad after-school special.

And then I probably love this show more than most, I've stood by it through highs and lows, but this... was just... I give up.

Hanna, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:14 (seventeen years ago) link

GREAT, MORE FOR ME!

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Seriously, have you seen other television shows? Their dialogue, scenarios, acting, filming, and general and specific plotlines are just about all worse than "Veronica Mars." There's no point loving a show's past so much that you cannot stand to watch it anymore -- it's free entertainment, and even if it is one billion million kazillion times worse than it was back in the golden halcyon days of its past (what, like seasons one and two were perfect all the way through and never had stupid stuff in them? uh, NO), it's still a really good show.

But you have a right to your opinion. I just don't see the need for all the DAMMIT ROB THOMAS I UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT TELEVISION AND THIS SHOW THAN YOU DO, YOU BASTARD handwringing.

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:38 (seventeen years ago) link

it's still a really good show.

Up through the first storyline of this season, it really wasn't.

milo z, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:39 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't understand your timeline, milo, or what you're saying. But I'm pretty sure I disagree. Veronica couldn't stay in high school forever you know.

xpost:
I'm sorry if that seemed personal, Hanna, it's not meant to be. I have issues, and I'm kind of a dick.

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll go back to not-posting now so y'all can go back to hating.

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Matt! Stay where you are! You're absolutely OTM.

The sense of entitlement when it comes to nerds and TV is what's underpinning this divide, and the disenfranchisement of certain segments of the show's audience is manifested by pooping in threads to spoil them/the show for other people who still dig. God knows how I tried the same in Lost threads in the past, but c'mon, I eventually took my poo-slinging to other venues where nobody hears me complain.

Last I watched, this was still one of the best shows on the telly, however it relates to past seasons.

Leee, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 22:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Haha, the shows you love the most are the ones you get you the most disappointed and emotional, right? That's all part of fandom. I just thought it was so silly, this past ep, that scene where V fell in slow motion, the righteousness and morale of the storylines, blah blah teens drinking, jews and arabs can be friends, it was all so simplified and non-reflective. I kind of expect the next one to be about teen pregnancy, and the one after that about bullying. But I'll keep watching, I still have love for VM.

Hanna, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay that's fair enough methinks. I just tend to focus on the stuff I like rather than the stuff I hate, and the heavy-handed stuff falls away. By the way, nowhere did it say that Jews and Arabs can be friends -- only that they can have sex. The father was shown to be pretty damn intolerant!

Dimension 5ive, Thursday, 3 May 2007 12:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Having actually watched the last episode...
that scene where V fell in slow motion

Yeah, I got a case of the not-in-a-good-way loffles; it was really something I'd expect from Heroes or somesuch.
And while the A-plot was really stupid and unnecessary, Matt's right: If you rilly love the show fer shure, then you focus on the positive, like the bday party teen melodrama. Mac and Max squee!!

Also, I love Dick. As long as the show features Dick, this boy will have a gay old time. Mm, Dick.

Piz can still suck it though.

Leee, Thursday, 3 May 2007 16:37 (seventeen years ago) link

I thought the slo-mo was actually making gentle fun of other TV shows and the way they handle things; guess I was wrong.

Dimension 5ive, Thursday, 3 May 2007 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

this is now the worst television programme I watch

RJG, Friday, 4 May 2007 12:51 (seventeen years ago) link

The father was shown to be pretty damn intolerant!

you didn't watch the programme, did you, Dimension 5ive?

RJG, Friday, 4 May 2007 12:59 (seventeen years ago) link

I didn't press Convert Simple HTML to BBcode, did I?

RJG, Friday, 4 May 2007 13:00 (seventeen years ago) link

no, but you DID conveniently ignore the part where the father was like "YOU MUST NOT SLEEP WITH OR MARRY A JEW", which is not exactly tolerance, and this ambiguity is maybe why I don't think it was all as heavy-handed as all that

Dimension 5ive, Friday, 4 May 2007 14:02 (seventeen years ago) link

did you see the bit, the very next day, where he told his wife that they should meet the jew? that bit was just after the bit where he'd met the kid who had vandalised their restaurant twice. after that bit, there was the bit where he decided not to call the cops on the kid (after the bit where the kid shut the door on them without apologising or anything). there was also the bit where he was "pissed off" about the iraq war flyers but said that they weren't illegal and that it was the guy's right to hand them out.

sounds more ridiculously tolerant than intolerant

RJG, Friday, 4 May 2007 14:19 (seventeen years ago) link

and what about the part where he called immigration on the dude for handing out the flyers? and what about the part where I didn't really care about the actual 'mystery' of the episode at all because I'm more into the dialogue and the characters I actually know? and what about...um...okay so I never said it was the greatest episode of all time. still though, did you want him to go all 'ay yi yi yi' and execute his daughter in the public square? he's iraqi-american, not talibani; iraqis who have been in the u.s. for a long time are probably some of the most pro-u.s. patriotic dudes in history, probably shah-affiliated, etc.

oh why do i bother, i sound like a jerk.

Dimension 5ive, Friday, 4 May 2007 14:43 (seventeen years ago) link

ugh I definitely need to not see this episode.

horseshoe, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Dimension 5ive, was that really in response to me?

RJG, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't even know, anymore.

Dimension 5ive, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:21 (seventeen years ago) link

You're not the one sounding like a jerk, believe me.

Leee, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:33 (seventeen years ago) link

according to what I just read, the creator was allowed to shoot a pilot for a new version of the show that goes ahead a few years and has veronica working for the FBI (as speculated above), but whether that is finished and whether or not the CW has decided to pick that up next year, I don' tknow. I think the word is that if they don't, the show is dead.

gilmore girls isn't coming back either.

akm, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:38 (seventeen years ago) link

wait i want to know who is the one sounding like a jerk

Tracer Hand, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:45 (seventeen years ago) link

No roffles over Piz's internship with "the most prestigious music writers on the planet"?

I think wrapping up the Kendall Casablancas storyline is probably the best chance this show has to go out more bang than whimper.

goth casual, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 19:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I believe it was "the most highly regarded music publication on the internet," but yeah, roffles. I'm kind of amazed that CW is still on the fence about renewing this show, it's not like they have much else going for them, might as well stick with something that has a small but loyal audience.

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

oh I was roffling all right

"It's like I'm in the porn version of Groundhog Day."

Mac's admission that "love makes me lazy" but then choosing to be lazy albeit with scruples that will eventually become stumbling blocks in themselves rang true to me. Lots of great relationship stuff in this ep actually, characters making different subtle little choices about commitment that played well against each's history. I can't imagine the show being as detailed or interesting in its peripheral characters if they continue it at the FBI. Actually I can't imagine an FBI VM at all, have there been any FBI shows since the X-Files?

the problem is the stupid pussycat dolls 'get me another skank' show outdrew veronica mars. apparently the cw's new strategy is programming shows that like the america's funniest home videos of youtube. i swear to god i wish i was kidding.

Oh man, I can totally update my "21st century so far" list:

1. Robot hegemony
2. Monkey comeback
3. Re-established robot hegemony
4. Zombie revolution (zombies in, robots out)
5. Failed undercurrent of pirate
6. Wizard remains confined to child-fan ghetto
7. Ninja resurgence
8. Skanks
9. Cowboys
10. SPARTANS (I totally failed to predict this)

New predictions:

1. Skank oversaturation
2. Marines
3. Vikings (with a bullet)
4. Bike cops
5. Ghost comeback
6. Skank backlash

Classics holding strong:

1. Douchebags

It's Over

C. Grisso/McCain, Thursday, 17 May 2007 16:28 (seventeen years ago) link

The new "Gossip Girl," about a group of prep school teenagers in Manhattan, will be given the biggest push. The CW scheduled it for Wednesdays at 9 p.m. after its top-rated program, "America's Next Top Model."

The CW's only new comedy, "Aliens in America," is about a high school student trying to adjust to a Pakistani exchange student. "Life is Wild" is a drama about a New York City family spending a year at a game reserve in South Africa

The new drama "Reaper" features one of the CW's oldest new characters: a 21-year-old. His parents sold his soul to the devil and he's assigned to track down evil escapees from hell.

On Sunday nights, the network will debut "The CW Now," an entertainment-oriented newsmagazine for 18-to-34-year-olds. "Online Nation" will talk about what's hot on the Web.

In midseason, the CW will bring on a reality show, "Farmer Wants a Wife," about a country guy choosing among 10 women fed up with big-city prospects.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 17 May 2007 16:33 (seventeen years ago) link

fuck. i really kinda wanted to see the FBI idea, could've turned out cool. maybe they can put those 4th season 'trailers' on the season 3 DVD?

can we start handicapping the odds of a) Rob Thomas getting another series or b) Kristen Bell having a movie career that involves better projects than 'Pulse'?

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 17 May 2007 16:35 (seventeen years ago) link

or c) VM getting picked up by another network? Or does the CW own the show?

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 17 May 2007 16:39 (seventeen years ago) link

these last two eps (just saw them today) were better than the previous one but not hard

there was even a funny bit, when veronica said to keith, about the fall in robberies, "I smell trend!". much better than the awful refs and rubbish jokes that fall flat

parker is so annoying. the only characters I like are cliff, wallace (underused and boring, this season, though), keith, sometimes, and veronica, occasionally. I think scientology has ruined this show for me. logan w/ his lazyface-stupidvoice and piz w/ his...well, he has a stupid face, anyway

not bothered if it's finished

RJG, Thursday, 17 May 2007 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

what the hell is "the CW"??

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 17 May 2007 16:54 (seventeen years ago) link

The CW Television Network, casually referred to as The CW, or most recently as The New CW (due to it being a new network) is a television network in the United States launched during the 2006 television season. It features a mixture of programming from both UPN and The WB television networks, which ceased independent operations on September 15, 2006 and September 17, 2006 respectively.

RJG, Thursday, 17 May 2007 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

does it stand for anything?

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:09 (seventeen years ago) link

The CW is a joint venture between CBS Corporation, owner of UPN, and Warner Bros. Entertainment, a subsidiary of Time Warner, majority owner of The WB. Its name derives from the first letter of the names of these two corporations (CBS and Warner Bros.).
