i might eat a blt

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:22 (two years ago)

damn if only there were other meals that could use *checks notes* bread, bacon, tomato or mayo in part or in combination with other things

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:22 (two years ago)

1-2 blts

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:23 (two years ago)

Or buy that whole loaf of bread and ~reap the benefits~ of extra bread!

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:23 (two years ago)

I’m bad at meal planning in general but add some sliced deli meat? Different sandwich. Egg? French toast with your bacon. Mayo? Get you a spoon and eat it

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:24 (two years ago)

Yeah now I could go for a BLT too, and I already ate, FML

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:24 (two years ago)

lifehack: dedicated mayo storage shed

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:25 (two years ago)

expired mayo? whoever even heard of that anyway

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:25 (two years ago)

now I’m all amped up and I want to go to the store to buy a leaf of lettuce, a slice of tomato, two slices of bread, two pieces of bacon and a pocketful of mayo

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:27 (two years ago)

If I can’t do that then why are there even stores

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:28 (two years ago)

just bring all the stuff to the cashier and ask them to make you a sandwich

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:30 (two years ago)

the thing is, a full tomato is just a vessel to keep those couple perfect slices fresh. the rest can be compost

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:32 (two years ago)

i usually just eat the rest of the tomato on the side as a lil salad if you will

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:33 (two years ago)

That’s true, ime the rest gets diced up and thrown into whatever I’m cooking. Gotta get to that next fresh tomato!

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:34 (two years ago)

old fridge tomoato, no thank you

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:36 (two years ago)

It seems obvious that this person's food preparation skills top out at "I can make a sandwich" and they only use this skill at rare intervals because almost all their meals are either cold cereal, take-out, or microwaved. Why they'd trumpet this to the world eludes me.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:41 (two years ago)

Maybe with a dollop of expired l’mayonnaise

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:41 (two years ago)

my coworker admitted he has multiple family members who don’t eat leftovers and I’m aghast. as someone who has lived alone for a long period that’s wild to me

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:43 (two years ago)

leftovers are good, if you had nice food and theres some left youre all im gonna heat that stuff up and eat it hell yeah

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:45 (two years ago)

or even if the food doesnt excite you its there and you can just eat it if youre hungry

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:46 (two years ago)

it’s true. it’s food and it’s already been made, what’s not to like

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:52 (two years ago)

this guy should just make his own bread then he could make very small loaves, problem solved

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 00:53 (two years ago)

He makes a good point that it's hard to shop and cook for one person. There are a lot of things that you couldn't make for just yourself without major effort and waste. I've been trying to balance shopping and cooking for myself for years.

If you want to try new interesting recipes it requires forethought as to what can be saved and a willingness to throw stuff out

Dan S, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:03 (two years ago)

im eating the blt

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:08 (two years ago)

I dunno Ive been one person many times in my adult life and I never had an issue buying groceries and using what was left for other meals. This guy reeks of "young male who was never shown how proper home economics works" which ISTG seems to be 80% of the fucking men Ive ever known for some reason.

No one actively SHOWED ME how to use the rest of a tomato, head of lettuce or loaf of bread. Why is common sense so lacking in some people. GAAAHHHH.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:26 (two years ago)

concocting a meal from ingredients on hand is fun and edifying

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:28 (two years ago)

I'm all about the leftovers. Though I do take it too far and often have a fridge full of 2-week-old tiny tupperwares full of a 1/4 can of corn, some shredded chicken, and 4 olives lol.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:31 (two years ago)

hoping my mayo hasn't expired.
hoping my mayo hasn't expired.
hoping my mayo hasn't expired.
hoping my mayo hasn't expired.
hoping my mayo hasn't expired.
hoping my mayo hasn't expired.
hoping my mayo hasn't expired.

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:33 (two years ago)

btw I buy half loaves of bread all the time

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:37 (two years ago)

and anyway i’d like to know more about this “proportionally sized” sandwich “kit” - does it look anything like… a sandwich?

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:39 (two years ago)

er, proportionally priced, that is

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:40 (two years ago)

I left my Kraft Mayo out accidentally but hope that it is full of enough preservatives that I won't die when I eat it again.

Part of the problem for me is that I have frequent visitors who all have their own food needs. I end up with a refrigerator full of stuff that I wouldn't buy for myself.

I love leftovers, but making a typical recipe of a meal for six is burdensome. I don't want to eat the same thing for five more days, I just don't. And reducing the quantities in the recipe to one just makes it a slog

I make my own sourdough bread. It requires a dutch oven (like a Le Creuset). It is fantastic, as good as Tartine's. I slice it up, eat some, and put the remainder into the freezer for later. I can give you all the recipe if you want, but it is long.

Along with the bread I freeze bolognese sauce, rice, homemade chicken broth, soups etc. But there are a lot of recipes that require fresh ingredients that have to be bought in quantity and cannot be saved

Dan S, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:43 (two years ago)

In this guy's tiny mind it stands to reason that his imaginary "sandwich kit" would be significantly cheaper than buying a sandwich some other way, because he would be supplying all the labor of assembling the sandwich! ofc, this notion only reflects his profound ignorance, but he's too ignorant to know how ignorant he is.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 01:52 (two years ago)

the blockchain solves this

JoeStork, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 02:01 (two years ago)

yeah, just get non-fungible mayo, what's the issue?

m0stly clean (Slowsquatch), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 02:10 (two years ago)

I made a BLT in my 3D printer! It tastes like the future.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 02:40 (two years ago)

Realizing that what this person really wants is the BLT equivalent of that “peanut butter and jelly swirled together in a jar” thing.

epistantophus, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 12:19 (two years ago)

I would consider a spread made of blended bacon lettuce and tomato and a dab of mayo as a binder

Its big ball chunky time (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 12:36 (two years ago)

dan s i think what a lot of people are reacting to is the idea that you have to keep eating the same dish for 5 days. you can make other things with the same ingredients. if you can’t think of anything else to do you could just make like a “salad”, an “omelette” a “soup” .. humanity has faced this issue before

omg yes

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 14:09 (two years ago)

they've cracked the code

really timely that this popped up right after my meal discussion with coworkers yesterday afternoon. there was much talk of freezing soups, stock, and sauces and how owning a chest freezer is great if you have the space

the coworker whose wife doesn't eat leftovers apparently has insisted that they'd end up with more freezer burned items, as they keep having that issue in their fridge, is WRONG imo. you get freezer burn by regularly opening and closing the freezer and having things that are open but not well-sealed. stuff in a chest freezer is much less likely to have that issue imo

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 14:42 (two years ago)

any excuse

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 14:50 (two years ago)

You can't freeze my BLTs cause you'll get none of these
at ease

President Keyes, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 14:54 (two years ago)

George Costanza would solve this dilemma by keeping a platter of sandwiches at the ready by his bedside just in case an appropriately intimate moment should arise

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 15:15 (two years ago)

timely post, was just thinking about getting a chest freeze vs upright freezer xp

, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 15:27 (two years ago)

a chest freezer is an incredibly family friendly food extension device. ours deserves a memorial stone when finally it kicks, but at 21 y/o it hums along.

schrodingers cat was always cool (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 20 March 2024 16:40 (two years ago)

yeah those things seem to last forever, you could prob pick up a 20 y/o one for nothing and itd keep going another 20

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 17:07 (two years ago)

Love how you all engaged with the tweet I posted. Hardly been here all day so catching up now. Thank you ❤️
