Nearly everyone on this board is kind and thoughtful. Even the few who have more, er, direct personalities come across as thoughtful. Looking at some old posts, I don't think that was always the case.

I want to note that I really appreciate darraghmac, who has often pushed back on some of my more strident polemical moments and made me think about how and why I am posting what I am. While this can be frustrating, I also really value being made to evaluate my use of language. Thanks d!

I made the Jasmine, the cocktail I learned from DJP.

I simply call them Alfronis in my household.

Very excited to try a Jasmine. On the menu tonight

I use Cointreau, no bitters, and a splash of Italicus.

We're rocking Grand Marnier and no Italicus in this house (although now on the shopping list).

I'm doing dry vermouth, Pronto (Trader Joe's excellent campari knockoff), and a splash of lemonade on the rocks

Wait, Trader Joe’s makes hard liquor? I’ve only ever shopped at TJ’s in Virginia, where hard liquor is only sold in (intentionally) depressing state stores.

They don’t make it, they (as with their other products) mostly rebadge dece low-rank name-brand stuff

eg afaik their whiskey was* rebadged Jamesons. dunno who did their white rum but it was absolutely three-ingredient-cocktail worthy

*the one 23 mins from my flat stopped selling booze a week before I last went in, last spring. the one 30 mins from my dayjob and 5 mins more to the train stopped selling booze last summer.

The last cocktail I "improvised" was vodka - mint - cinnamon syrup - jasmine tea - slice of orange. I need to try again but it was promising.
In honor of Alfred, I've been enjoying the Sbagliato. I'll try the one with Cointreau.

Negroni with vodka (generic), Campari and tawny port makes for a punchy start to the evening

Scott Seward is always (and has always been) a joy to have in our midst; he brings a slightly absurd, off-kilter energy that’s very welcome, and the same vibe is there in his published work in, say, the Village Voice. When he wasn’t present for a while this place didn’t feel the same.
