and i can talk faster too. not Ned fast but fast. i always thought that Ned had the coolest mile a minute brain until i met Andy Zax in person. whoooo boy he is a trip! uh but he doesn't come here i don't think. he should have.

Ha, as someone who was in conversation with Andy last week in LA for PopCon, it's true...we can chat quickly. (I think Andy knows about here but has never swung by.) Anyway, too kind a comment of course!

As someone who is perpetually foggy and and indirect, I appreciate rob’s clarity

Nearly everyone on this board is kind and thoughtful. Even the few who have more, er, direct personalities come across as thoughtful. Looking at some old posts, I don't think that was always the case.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Saturday, 16 March 2024 17:11 (two years ago)

aw thanks sarahell, VG, sleeve!! i'm grateful for y'all <3

oh gosh what a lovely bunch you all are! if any of you are ever in Montreal, do please ilx-mail me

I'm bad about remembering to post itt, so while I'm here let me note that I always enjoy reading Daniel_Rf post about any of the wide range of subjects he is smart & witty about

rob, Sunday, 17 March 2024 15:55 (two years ago)

didn’t realize you were in montreal, rob. tho it makes sense that the boards one other yves jarvis fan would be a local. i’m moving back next year :)

flopson, Sunday, 17 March 2024 16:11 (two years ago)

I want to note that I really appreciate darraghmac, who has often pushed back on some of my more strident polemical moments and made me think about how and why I am posting what I am. While this can be frustrating, I also really value being made to evaluate my use of language. Thanks d!

xp nice, glad to hear it flopson! you should bump the Mtl thread when you're back, I think there might even be a couple more of us?

Had a very excellent Negroni while out at dinner on Saturday and couldn't help but to mentally toast Alfred.

hugs!

I haven't mixed one in a week, a problem I'll fix tonight.

<3 Daniel

I have also thought of Alfred while sipping a Negroni

rob, Monday, 18 March 2024 15:33 (two years ago)

I love the lot of you.

poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 19 March 2024 00:10 (two years ago)

I made the Jasmine, the cocktail I learned from DJP.

poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 19 March 2024 00:10 (two years ago)

I simply call them Alfronis in my household.

Very excited to try a Jasmine. On the menu tonight

H.P, Tuesday, 19 March 2024 00:14 (two years ago)

I use Cointreau, no bitters, and a splash of Italicus.

poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 19 March 2024 00:16 (two years ago)

We're rocking Grand Marnier and no Italicus in this house (although now on the shopping list).

H.P, Tuesday, 19 March 2024 00:19 (two years ago)

I'm doing dry vermouth, Pronto (Trader Joe's excellent campari knockoff), and a splash of lemonade on the rocks

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 19 March 2024 00:22 (two years ago)

Let me know.

poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 19 March 2024 01:06 (two years ago)

Wait, what? Pronto is supposed to be Campari!?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 19 March 2024 01:21 (two years ago)

Wait, Trader Joe’s makes hard liquor? I’ve only ever shopped at TJ’s in Virginia, where hard liquor is only sold in (intentionally) depressing state stores.

from a prominent family of bassoon players (Boring, Maryland), Tuesday, 19 March 2024 04:36 (two years ago)

They don’t make it, they (as with their other products) mostly rebadge dece low-rank name-brand stuff

eg afaik their whiskey was* rebadged Jamesons. dunno who did their white rum but it was absolutely three-ingredient-cocktail worthy

*the one 23 mins from my flat stopped selling booze a week before I last went in, last spring. the one 30 mins from my dayjob and 5 mins more to the train stopped selling booze last summer.

bae (sic), Tuesday, 19 March 2024 05:53 (two years ago)

The last cocktail I "improvised" was vodka - mint - cinnamon syrup - jasmine tea - slice of orange. I need to try again but it was promising.
In honor of Alfred, I've been enjoying the Sbagliato. I'll try the one with Cointreau.

Nabozo, Tuesday, 19 March 2024 07:51 (two years ago)

Negroni with vodka (generic), Campari and tawny port makes for a punchy start to the evening

I will on occasion mix a variant with bourbon or rye and an amaro like Averna or Ramazotti.

Slugbuggy’s all too infrequent posts in the perfume thread are among the best on this whole site

Scott Seward is always (and has always been) a joy to have in our midst; he brings a slightly absurd, off-kilter energy that’s very welcome, and the same vibe is there in his published work in, say, the Village Voice. When he wasn’t present for a while this place didn’t feel the same.
