the space battles get a lot better in rotj. i agree, i remember being very nonplussed as a 10 year old by how slowly the x-wings moved in ANH vs the x-wings that i flew in the pc game x-wing.

well i've always said this, that since CGI gets better all the time once you go down this road of specializing old movies with new effects you kind of can't stop since those new effects will quickly start looking very bad, in fact far worse than if they'd been practical to begin with. the only winning move is to despecialize obv but in lieu of that yes, new special editions are needed!

Tracer, it was the special edition on Disney Plus. I don't think I was particularly bothered by the "new" CGI - it doesn't look great but many of the old VFX shots look pretty dated nowadays as well. I still enjoy all the other aspects of the movie, but I can see how it's a hard sell for younger people. My nephew and niece pointed out how bad any blaster scene was, with the shots going wildly off-target every time. And fair point to them

weird tone, imo. i welcome a more action-heavy approach, as long as it doesn't lose some of the spirit that made the first season special.

really weird tone indeed, towards the end at times feels like it's a cop buddy comedy or something.

feels like it is marketing towards people who didn't like the show, which makes financial sense. can't imagine they could do anything to keep me from watching, and i bet a lot of people who loved season one feel the same

yeah i assume it's just like an ad or whatever and the show will feel more like s1. also i did wonder if they thought that track ties into the times in a safe kind of way.

Who knows what it will be like but I know how much the people making it care about it - and in light of the muted viewing figures for S1 i don’t think there was ever a chance they were going to lead with a cerebral trailer

This show, despite acclaim and putting it on ABC to gin up numbers, was the lowest rated Star Wars show and it came it at a cost of about $640 million. The ad is not very good but I wouldn't be worried, they're just trying to get the most audience possible.

It is kind of hilarious how all the text is like "100 INTELLIGENT CRITICS AGREE - THIS SERIES IS SMARTER THAN YOU" and all the visuals are like people smirking while things explode behind them

the trailer is clearly trying to draw in the part of the audience who enjoyed boba fett, obi wan et al. they know they've already got the star-wars-fans-who-also-loved-battle-of-algiers crowd hooked, they'll watch regardless

The extra viewers they might get from that trailer might be canceled out by the “I really hate that song” demographic. It’s just kind of shockingly bad I think. I watched it with my kid and I felt the cringe.

I actually don’t think it would lose any viewers, but I just don’t think anyone would see that trailer and get hyped so they should probably get a different one out there as fast as possible.

I know at least one person not on ILX who refused to watch the trailer because of the music
