A friend worked a celebrity/autograph event today or yesterday and said Pete Best was there.

Came here to note Ann Vernon, she was in a movie I watched last night (Shakedown, 1950.) James Redd mentioned her when she was 97. She just turned 100 in January.

Yay, Ann!

Never heard of that one!

The Ginger Bakersfield Sound (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 6 March 2024 19:51 (two years ago)

Also seems that whilst in the US or at least for that film she dropped the final ‘e’ in her first name so Ann Vernon instead of Anne Vernon.

The Ginger Bakersfield Sound (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 6 March 2024 19:52 (two years ago)

Of course her real name was something entirely different

The Ginger Bakersfield Sound (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 6 March 2024 19:53 (two years ago)

Only e-less for that one movie apparently

Not exactly famous but Karl Kohn, who Frank Zappa studied composition with, 97.

Julio Iglesias, 77

He's 80 now, and until I looked him up I would have given 50/50 odds on whether I had heard he died.

Famous-in-Canada character actor and exploding head Louis Del Grande, also 80.

In a similar vein, she's already been mentioned a couple times ITT, but I was surprised to see Nancy Sinatra posting on threads about the Beyoncé albums.

I was surprised when I found out that Robert Johnson's stepsister, Annye Anderson, is still alive (she put out a book about him in 2020). I would have guessed that everyone who knew him was long gone by now.

mirostones, Thursday, 4 April 2024 14:50 (two years ago)

Jim Rosenthal. Not actually *that* old (76). Just thought he was dead.

In November 2019, Rosenthal became the new "Voice of JACK", replacing and following the death of actor Paul Darrow as the new on-air voice of Oxfordshire's local JACK branded radio stations and their national radio station Union JACK.[19] He is the lead presenter of matchday coverage on Manchester United's in-house channel MUTV and is one of the presenters of Amazon Prime's Premier League coverage.

The Diana Dors' movie "Yield to the Night" is on just now and Michael Craig is still alive! 95!

Hunky Tory (Tom D.), Saturday, 6 April 2024 20:34 (two years ago)

... that's Diana Dors who when she was at school had a boyfriend called Desmond Morris, the Desmond Morris, who is also still alive at 96!

Hunky Tory (Tom D.), Saturday, 6 April 2024 21:06 (two years ago)

... Desmond Morris who designed Oxford United's logo!

Hunky Tory (Tom D.), Saturday, 6 April 2024 21:07 (two years ago)

Not quite the thread title, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Leslie Uggams in a key role in American Fiction. I hadn't thought about her in decades--looking at her IMDB page, she's worked steadily, but I hadn't seen her in anything since The Cosby Show. She was someone I was aware of as a kid in the late '60s; my parents must have had an album or two around the house.

also desmond morris (presumably) the last of the living birmingham surrealist groupuscule

I'm sure Tom Lehrer has already been in this thread, but can there be anyone else still alive who recorded their last studio album in the 1950s?

Zelda Zonk, Sunday, 7 April 2024 08:35 (two years ago)

Terry Riley, 88. Found a CD copy in excellent shape of A Rainbow in Curved Air today for $2; already have the album, but handy for the car.

Just looking at the chapter headings is a shocka

Mr. Sly Stone in fact did not die sometime in the early 80s.

It's yet to be seen if he dies in his early 80s.

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 8 April 2024 15:15 (two years ago)

Stanley's biography was great, might actually read it again. Very gossipy in places and outs at least one other actor.

Really? He’s ubiquitous on the festival circuit (the Big Ears and Bang on a Can kind of circuit).
