otm, it turned out Trump as president is exactly the same as Trump in every other setting. Surprising if your metric is, “How do presidents behave,” but not if it’s “How does Donald Trump behave?”

Like I said on Thursday, if Trump didn't exist Haley would be our most nutjob conservative presidential nominee in history.
The only truthful thing Trump has ever said is when he admitted after the '16 election that he didn't think he'd win.
― poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 25 February 2024 21:16 (two years ago)
If Trump didn't exist it's hard to say what positions Haley would be taking on anything, since she's mostly an opportunist. In this case the opportunism takes the form of "splitting the difference between Trump and normal pre-2016 Republican candidates," but in different circumstances she could be tacking in any number of directions.
― a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 25 February 2024 21:24 (two years ago)
I base my conclusions on how she ruled as governor during the Obama years and she was pretty fascist already.
― poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 25 February 2024 22:08 (two years ago)
Her idea of "An alternative to Trump" is to run as she did in the mid '00s and it was already dismal, way to the right of Romney and McCain.
― poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 25 February 2024 22:09 (two years ago)
She was terrible for sure. (I like this history of her support of the Confederate flag, both before and after she ordered it taken down: https://kevinmlevin.substack.com/p/nikki-haleys-revisionist-history)
I just mean that Trump has distorted everything in the Republican Party so much that it's hard to imagine what they would be like without him. Still terrible! But maybe also still hewing closer to the longstanding practice of keeping the racist/fascist/nationalist base energized enough to vote but preferably at arm's length.
― a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 25 February 2024 22:14 (two years ago)
Her Dixie flag decisions looked like, if I remember (someone can correct me), a mix of disgust and cynicism. Her public statements seemed to capture a genuine sense of outrage, i.e. why do so many people in my state espouse Confederate values, when she was also ignorant if not stupid about what her party had espoused since 1964.
― poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 25 February 2024 22:22 (two years ago)
Her basic line was, "It's appalling that white supremacists have hijacked the noble Confederate flag," which ... yeah.

They are back live in Fulton County right now questioning Nathan Wade's lawyer about his knowledge of the relationship, he isn't giving the defense much whatsoever.
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Tuesday, 27 February 2024 19:29 (two years ago)
The attorney for the defense is so bad, just utterly flailing around trying to get Wade's attorney to provide any useful information.

If they were doing a better job they would be making a better case that they are not wasting everyone's time. Even the judge seems bored and ready to move on.

hes got a meme stock now, too perfect
What’s gotten far less attention, though, is this: A frenetic rally in a stock tied to Trump Media & Technology Group — which operates the Truth Social platform he posts on daily — has minted a nearly $4 billion windfall for him.
There are any number of caveats to this figure, including how it’s only a paper profit for now that he’ll have to wait months to monetize, and yet the stock’s surge is a potentially huge financial boost for a billionaire candidate suddenly short on cash.
The type of transaction — known as a de-SPAC or blank-check deal — that would hand Trump this new-found wealth is a complex one that briefly became popular on Wall Street during the stock mania unleashed by pandemic-era stimulus. In this particular deal, Truth Social’s owner would enter the stock market by merging with a publicly traded company called Digital World Acquisition Corp.

This reminds me of the guy I work with who is always a disorganized mess, has made multiple very public colossal fuckups that have cost us money, yet every year he miraculously gets another massive promotion to everyone else's complete shock.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he will not make anywhere in the vicinity of $4B off this.

I don't know. I hear he's good at deals.

xp - I don't think he will either, but even if he pulls in 10% of the number he's covered for the two big court losses
― Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 28 February 2024 17:49 (two years ago)
yeah, the problem with the "Donald Trump is going bankrupt" narrative is that he has a pool of about 50 million fanatics who would all probably send him a few bucks
― Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Wednesday, 28 February 2024 17:53 (two years ago)
not really seeing news about this anywhere else, kinda skeptical that Trump has just minted 4 billion out of a tie to an unpopular social media site whose only source of revenue is advertising vitamins and gold bars

Mr. Trump will have an overwhelming majority stake in the postmerger company and own 79 million shares. Shares of Digital World have soared this year on expectations that the deal will be completed and that Mr. Trump will win the Republican nomination for president. The stock closed on Monday at $47.23 per share. At that price, the former president’s stake would be worth nearly $4 billion.
― Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Wednesday, 28 February 2024 17:58 (two years ago)
Ah! Well. Nevertheless.
― Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 28 February 2024 18:01 (two years ago)
It's down to $45.27 today, which means Trump is 160 million dollars poorer than on Monday. Loser!

regardless of if the scheme works what matters is the journey
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 February 2024 18:03 (two years ago)
Guys, you're missing some major points here, which that quote above underscores -- he needs the money now, and there's no guarantee it'll all be that valued down the pike when he can actually cash in, which is about six months from now.

I mean the latest Trump lawyer filing was them saying "Uhhhh we can give you a bond for $100 million?" That is not a sign of overwhelming confidence in their current situation!
Shares of Digital World have soared this year on expectations that the deal will be completed and that Mr. Trump will win the Republican nomination for president. The stock closed on Monday at $47.23 per share.
Trump will get the nomination. That's a cinch. This merger deal might even close before September and the final run up to the election. But DJT's going to lose and then he'll revert to being the same Florida Man he's been since January 2021. That's if he stays out of jail. So how does that scenario make Truth Social worth one cent more in 2025 than today?
I find that share price of $47 kinda suspicious, since Trump wants to make the number 47 part of his branding, like he did with 45.
