I wanted to make a comment about how performative and ineffective it is to just keep re-posting stuff over and over but I wisely stayed out of it

the non voting conversation is entirely a will stancil et al project, socialists arent going around telling each other not to vote, but they might say something like that to will stancil because hes annoying and has made them the object of his weird ineffectual obsession

idk the only socialists I've heard/seen telling people that they're not voting in the US presidential election (which is still a long ways off and who knows what they'll think by then) are people in states that would have solid democratic leads anyway

there have been some well-meaning if kind of token vote municipal/state socialist candidates where I think it's an interesting exercise to push the discourse if you're able to bring issues to debates and coverage of the race, but I don't know if that's been that effective, either. the local mayoral election (nonpartisan position, someone who is ostensibly a democrat will will) ended up having a socialist-type candidate who, if anything, was a spoiler for the more left-leaning of big two candidates

there was also some guy who wanted to be the less-interesting Vermin Supreme-type guy of the midwest who somehow got some votes but we don't need to care much about that

Non-voter whining/panic runs parallel to the idea that criticizing Democrats online is basically voter suppression because the 100 people reading it on ILX or 38 followers on Twitter might swing the election.

When I hear that non voting ANYONE exists in the USA especially with the state your democracy is in, I feel like I am taking crazy pills.
I cannot fathom how you can rail against the shit going on and NOT VOTE. "my vote wont matter" well of course it fucking wont if you dont bother with it.

(and yes yes I know, disenfranchisement thanks to voting hours/times, loctions etc compared to where I am, to be duly noted).
