Gordon Brown praised Thatcher too, lest we forget.

Not exactly a novelty for Labour leaders to hero worship Thatcher.
Just recorded a fascinating long interview with Shadow Chancellor @RachelReevesMP covering the Autumn Statement, the big challenges that lie ahead if Labour wins, how she feels about being called ‘right-wing’ & some v exciting chess news. Tune in tomorrow, Sat, 6pm @timesradio
Rachel Reeves apparently has feelings about being called ‘right-wing’ and had a chat about it on a Murdoch owned right-wing talk radio show with a former flop political adviser who helped Ed Mili lose an election in embarrassing style.

I’m sure the ex-Ed Mili advisers who were suddenly in commentator careers after 2015 were all “talented” IKYWIM.

what takes real talent is having the chutzpah to attend your book launch when it has already been revealed that it is just a straight quoted patchwork of wikipedia entries.

Hackney Labour Party tried to stand a bigoted, anti Trans candidate, ignored every Message on here, shut down all replies, & continued to canvass for her regardless, so people started Flyposting her Transphobic Tweets all over Hackney Town centre.& *Thats* how you fucking do it.— Mikey Walsh (@thatbloodyMikey) January 13, 2024

what really fundamentally disrespects people is the tacit approval of austerity and dismissive contempt for any nod towards progressive taxation from this cunt and the gaslighting here that there is dignity in a system that props up poverty wages and foodbank expansion. And then this year he is going to make the case that people should vote for him. He can fuck off and die a million times.

"Given we now hear from leading Israeli govt officials a one state solution and a dismissal of the two state solution... I think it’s your responsibility now to tell us how that works," Streeting adds— Sienna Rodgers (@siennamarla) January 14, 2024
"Will those Palestinians in Israel have equal civil rights? In which case in the long term how do you safeguard Israel’s jewish character?"If they don't get equal civil rights, Streeting asks, "how do you not give real credence to this idea of an apartheid situation?"— Sienna Rodgers (@siennamarla) January 14, 2024
slightly surprised to hear this from Wes Streeting (at the Jewish Labour Movement conference) given how antsy some people get about the words 'apartheid' and 'Israel' appearing in the same sentence. I guess it doesn't necessarily mean much, and that Streeting and co can keep talking about how they 'call for a two state solution' regardless of how increasingly implausible a two-state solution becomes, but still
― soref, Sunday, 14 January 2024 18:04 (two years ago)
but it seems rare for a current Lab front bencher to not just reject the idea of a single secular state but also actually spell out that the implication of Israeli government's rejection of a two-state solution is effectively a one state solution where not everybody in the one state has civil rights?
― soref, Sunday, 14 January 2024 18:08 (two years ago)
it's probably got the approval of the leadership, there will be lots of nervous MPs after Kieth wouldn't endorse a ceasefire vote and whipped against voting for it + added some bullshit compromise amendment including lukewarm criticism of the IDF's military actions that impressed nobody. The backlash was huge really and cost them some council majorities, also caused the shocking resignation of Babs! But there will be some Labour MPs who already know they are toast in the next election over this. I know for sure Leadbeater is toast, because my straw poll of the 3 Asian ppl from Batley I talk to is conclusive to me.

Labour’s campaign imploded. Its candidate was suspended after liking a transphobic tweet, then unsuspended for polling day. It couldn’t repeat the progressive vote it won in 2018.Meanwhile the 2018 Lib Dem candidate stood for the Tories this time & took all his votes with him.— Alex Nunns (@alexnunns) January 19, 2024

“There are times when the Labour party is led too heavily into nostalgia,” he told The Sun. “It would be the easiest thing in the world to go into the next general election just saying ‘worst crisis in NHS history’, ‘you can’t trust the Tories on the NHS’, ‘you’ve got 24 hours to save the NHS’ and by the way here’s a nice sepia film of Nye Bevan.”
You'd kind of think he'd be able to reframe this better, wouldn't you? You'd hope he'd fucking love the idea of the NHS and be able to articulate that.
― djh, Tuesday, 23 January 2024 20:21 (two years ago)
as long as he's getting a few times his basic annual parliamentary salary from Peter Hearn + others in donations - he doesn't give a flying fuck about the founding principles of the nhs.

people on twitter are pointing out that Reeves posted this only three months ago:
Today - in the midst of their cost of living crisis - the Conservatives are scrapping the cap on bankers' bonuses. It tells you everything you need to know about this Government.
It tells you everything you need to know about this Government.
why is a party with such a huge lead in the polls flailing around so much? I guess if you were going to be cynical about it you could say that there's *technically* no contradiction between saying that the tories scrapping the cap "tells you everything you need to know" about them, and not actually reinstating the cap, but they must know it makes them look ridiculous, so what's happening? Did they actually intend to bring back the cap at the point Reeves sent that tweet, but they've made a panicky flip-flop for some reason?

why is a party with such a huge lead in the polls flailing around so much?
i have to assume that they are simply fucking around for the hell of it, nothing else makes sense
it's just baffling, like i get they're awful and truly just want to do awful tory policies, but why not just decide on the evil tory policies you're doing and stick to it instead of constantly announcing & un-announcing policies, or announcing policies they criticised only months ago. maybe donors are fucking with them behind the scenes and constantly putting pressure on contradictory parts of their agenda or something? but even that wouldn't explain it really
― ufo, Wednesday, 31 January 2024 11:49 (two years ago)
like the tories have fucked up so bad that labour don't really need to even announce much at all to win a landslide victory so i don't know why they're bothering with having policies at all if they're having so much trouble deciding on them
― ufo, Wednesday, 31 January 2024 11:51 (two years ago)

― wang mang band (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 31 January 2024 12:56 (two years ago)
Probably also a number of competing power bases in the cabinet coalescing around Starmer, Reeves, Streeting, Miliband (don't laugh), all giving out mixed signals to the journos and doing their best to fuck each other over.
