I was in an eaterie a few months ago (in Wall Drug in fact), and the two TVs on the wall were respectively tuned to Fox News and Truth Social. Both seemed to be talking about Hunter Biden's laptop a lot, in fact endlessly. Possibly the target market for this new addition to the media landscape don't, in fact, give a flying one about 'the laptop', but that seems to be what they get.

i don't think the times is biased toward trump in any way, or that they ever minimized his danger. people who get their news from the times are aware of how horrific he is. the issue is that the people who support him do not get their news from the new york times. they live in a completely different media ecosystem and are exposed to a completely different set of facts. the new york times going harder on him would not effect anything at all -- he would still have his supporters. xp

the "normalization" discourse was always dumb. it was clear to anyone who wanted to see who he was, and this was always reported in the mainstream press as far as i can see. perhaps sometimes they were softer on him that i would have been, or something, but the point is this is not why he has the base he does. his supporters watch things like newsmax.

i think they did in 2016 too. the reason hillary's "depolorables" remark stuck and this much worse "vermin" one won't is because the latter is drowned out by a million other horrific things he says or does. it's nothing to do with unbalanced coverage the way that tweet up there implied.

The NYT, yes, opposes Trump, but like many liberals and lib types it has no idea how to deal with a pathogen that doesn't acknowledge the paper's hegemony and mores, thus they way too often minimize the threat.

They are just reporting on public perception. They are not saying he should be seen as a moderate on abortion, just that he is for some incomprehensible reason.
