scott seward, Saturday, 7 October 2023 17:38 (two years ago)

the live disc that gets tacked onto box set reissues (I could not care less how incendiary that Milwaukee show was, I wasn't there)

henry s, Saturday, 7 October 2023 17:52 (two years ago)

seeing the eclipse was cool but i do not care about photographs of it. my fb feed is now onto bad photoshops of the eclipse over dramatic nature moments. someone should photoshop the eclipse above a photo of them on the pot taking a shit, at least it would be funny.

ꙮ (map), Monday, 16 October 2023 14:24 (two years ago)

don't give me ideas! smartphone pics of solar/lunar eclipses are always rubbish

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Monday, 16 October 2023 14:26 (two years ago)

where is gregg araki when i need him???

― scott seward, Friday, October 6, 2023

Introduced my students to him last week!

hat trick of trashiness (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 16 October 2023 14:36 (two years ago)

Football matches starting with a minute's silence for some news story irrelevant to the sport, be it war, child murders or Captain Tom keeling over once and for all. Just get the fucking ball rolling! Especially annoying when there's some public debate over whether and how the silence should be observed.

ash ra pimple (Matt #2), Monday, 16 October 2023 15:20 (two years ago)

all the eclipse hoo-hah is constantly reminding me of bataille's the solar anus, so at least it has that going for it.

ꙮ (map), Monday, 16 October 2023 15:32 (two years ago)

Wait where did Chris Weisman come into this?

Jordan s/t (Jordan), Monday, 16 October 2023 15:44 (two years ago)

probably cuz i mentioned ruth garbus was on office hours cuz she is from here - or brattleboro anyway - and she is buds with chris who lives there as well.

scott seward, Monday, 16 October 2023 16:27 (two years ago)

i deejayed a thing last summer in brat and chris played with my pal omeed. at epsilon spires. which is a cool spot and it is run by jamie from the bunnybrains my brother's old band.

scott seward, Monday, 16 October 2023 16:28 (two years ago)

those guys are on a whole other wavelength than me. they are in to that kinda academic super-minimal weird tuning thing and i don't really always get it because i am bad at math. but they are cool. omeed was also in Donkey No No with my friends gen and ted and a toy wooden donkey.

scott seward, Monday, 16 October 2023 16:30 (two years ago)

when alfred posts i am a little sad that i stopped drinking before i ever had a negroni. i'm also a little worried about his obsession with negronis. haha! kidding. but i guess i never really cared about....cocktails! i was a beer and wine person from beginning to end. for my own benefit. i drink really fast. or used to. maybe i can get a mock negroni around here.

scott seward, Monday, 16 October 2023 16:33 (two years ago)

Cool! I wasn't aware of him prior to the Blake Mills record but he's an interesting & talented weirdo for sure. I know a few of those and it's always nice when one of them gets dragged into the spotlight. :) I'm pretty sure that a Blake Mills-produced record of his material is in the cards.

xp

Jordan s/t (Jordan), Monday, 16 October 2023 16:35 (two years ago)

scott, the cool thing about Negronis: you only need one! They're such a combination of sweet-sour that to order two is to risk gagging. I can't mix'em on consecutive days either.

hat trick of trashiness (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 16 October 2023 16:40 (two years ago)

I'm fairly sure mocktail versions exist

hat trick of trashiness (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 16 October 2023 16:40 (two years ago)

Negronis are at the nexus of exciting and revolting

Dwigt Rortugal (Eric H.), Monday, 16 October 2023 16:56 (two years ago)

yeah sorry Jordan, that was me bringing up CW being on the Office Hours show top after Scott mentioned his partner Ruth being on there.

a bit of an irony for me to mention them in the Things You Just Don't Care About thread...

linee, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 00:02 (two years ago)

I went for a late night walk to the bottle-o last night to pick up all the ingredients for a Negroni, credited to your consistent promotion on this board. It tasted great and I am currently buying the hype.

Peach’s burner account (H.P), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 00:18 (two years ago)

C'mon over, all!

hat trick of trashiness (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 00:30 (two years ago)

negronis are great to order if you're in an unfamiliar bar and you need to get a feel for the bartender's capabilities before ordering something more complex. cause it's pretty hard to screw up a negroni. if it's subpar or just okay, at least you know what their limitations are. if it tastes like the childhood in Italy you never had and when you close your eyes you see candy stripes everywhere and you're at the cirque le carnival de venise, and then the boozy kick of the gin hits you and threatens to whisk you off to dreamland, you know your bartender can mix a drink.

Easter underwear (Deflatormouse), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 01:03 (two years ago)

and then you think, fuck it, i'll just have another one of these.

how many acid stamps did you take?

hat trick of trashiness (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 01:14 (two years ago)

my local does a Curry Negroni which is interesting but a bit much for me

their Garibaldi is like a slushy delight, though

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 14:28 (two years ago)

Deflator I beg to differ on "hard to screw up."

I am a musician so I spend a lot of time in bars, and you might be surprised by how many drinks that are hard to screw up, and yet, people do.

I have been in bars that screwed up a beer. Like, "gimme a beer" and they're like, "okay, what's in that?"

The Royal House of Hangover (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 23:41 (two years ago)

there's a fairly novice bartender at the bar where I hang and sometimes work the door, and I saw him intently studying the weird amaro bottles.. I asked what he was looking for: "Greyhound!"

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 23:45 (two years ago)

best of luck part-time bartender

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 23:48 (two years ago)

He'll figure it out, he was just never a barfly which may be to his advantage

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 23:50 (two years ago)

yeah. I think a quick bartending class could help in some places, but just figuring it out on the job is par for
the course

It’s always an experience watching someone order a drink that’s probably above the expected level in a place even if they have the ingredients, usually falling back on the customer not gauging their environment. Probably not so much on that drink, if they have juice

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 18 October 2023 00:02 (two years ago)

I saw some douche canoe walk into the aforementioned dump and ask to see the wine list

"We have white... And we have red."

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 00:04 (two years ago)

Lots of very good drinks have precisely two ingredients separated by an ampersand.

Just sayin.

The Royal House of Hangover (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 18 October 2023 00:24 (two years ago)

sometimes the bartender doesn’t know for sure if you’re just there for a nice drink or to get loaded and you get the crispiest gin&tonic ever. having a clued-in person helps

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 18 October 2023 00:46 (two years ago)

I mean, unless the right portion is 80% gin. I guess sometimes I just don’t care

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 18 October 2023 00:47 (two years ago)

i don't think i've ever gone on bandcamp? i feel bad for ned though. i know he loves the place. and anyone hear who works/worked there! sorry it got bought by evildoers. that's just the way of the techbizzness though i think. buy and then dump and then lay off and then buy something else and....forever. seems like it would make you so tired to do that all the time.

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 14:28 (two years ago)

i don't download or upload though. i just ripped my first CD this summer! oh right: i don't care about downloading or uploading. my computer has one cd on it. from this summer!

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 14:29 (two years ago)

nah the Bandcamp thing really is disappointing because it really did seem to be run by people who loved music and were willing to pay artists fairly which is a real rarity these days, but yeah that's the way of the world

frogbs, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 14:34 (two years ago)

not just a really bad thing for the ppl who use it as customers or work at it but also for musicians in general

Daniel_Rf, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 14:36 (two years ago)

need a true artist co-op on the internet.

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 14:37 (two years ago)

worker-owned businesses are the future here where i live. the local pickle company is an inspiration like that.

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 14:38 (two years ago)

scott, the other bit of bandcamp is it's probably the largest direct market for bands and labels to sell physical media these days, outside of shows. I have no clue what the bandcamp cut is, but you can buy vinyl, cds, t-shirts, and assorted ephemera on there, too. you might have some used records (albeit of recent vintage) in your store someone bought off there!

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 18 October 2023 14:52 (two years ago)

yeah, its totally popular! well, i guess people have to hope for the best. the sharks who bought it claim to want to still give artists their cut? but who knows. it does suck when something works and people break it anyway. discogs is a similar case.

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 14:54 (two years ago)

No more Bandcamp Fridays :(

The First Time Ever I Saw Gervais (Tom D.), Wednesday, 18 October 2023 14:58 (two years ago)

wait what

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Wednesday, 18 October 2023 14:59 (two years ago)

... I don't know if there are no more Bandcamp Fridays tbh

The First Time Ever I Saw Gervais (Tom D.), Wednesday, 18 October 2023 15:00 (two years ago)

ppl got mad at me a couple of years ago when I mentioned Bandcamp on this thread. I don't have anything against it, it's just never been part of my life!

jaymc, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 15:01 (two years ago)

yeah its like myspace. i never went there but i got why people did. i had an account it just wasn't for me. i wasn't even friends with anyone there. not even that one guy everyone was friends with.

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 15:03 (two years ago)

i also just don't buy music online. or merch. youtube has always given me 100% of what i want from music online. and i do pay 10 bucks a month or whatever for the premium YT. but i doubt artists get much from them. just a hunch.

wait now i am remembering that i might have bought that live Can CD from bandcamp? the double cd. i think that was the only way i could get it here at the time. i pre-ordered it! i'd never done that before.

i have gone to label websites to buy. mostly metal. didn't need bandcamp for that.

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 15:09 (two years ago)

I think some of my collaborations are on Bandcamp? Maybe? Some on SoundCloud and some just YouTube. I have never been very good at putting everything in one place, and I am normally just a sidebeing so I don't necessarily even know where, when, or if things get released.

The Royal House of Hangover (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 18 October 2023 15:29 (two years ago)

meanwhile this is the merger that is shocking the nation. lemonheads + jelly belly? there is no stopping the Ferrara juggernaut!

"We're elated to announce an agreement to acquire Jelly Belly Candy Company. We have long admired Jelly Belly’s imaginative products, talented team, and passion for creating high-quality, innovative sugar confections, and we look forward to welcoming its team into our Ferrara community later this year."
