seeing the eclipse was cool but i do not care about photographs of it. my fb feed is now onto bad photoshops of the eclipse over dramatic nature moments. someone should photoshop the eclipse above a photo of them on the pot taking a shit, at least it would be funny.

Introduced my students to him last week!

Football matches starting with a minute's silence for some news story irrelevant to the sport, be it war, child murders or Captain Tom keeling over once and for all. probably cuz i mentioned ruth garbus was on office hours cuz she is from here - or brattleboro anyway - and she is buds with chris who lives there as well.

i deejayed a thing last summer in brat and chris played with my pal omeed. at epsilon spires. which is a cool spot and it is run by jamie from the bunnybrains my brother's old band.

those guys are on a whole other wavelength than me. they are in to that kinda academic super-minimal weird tuning thing and i don't really always get it because i am bad at math. but they are cool. omeed was also in Donkey No No with my friends gen and ted and a toy wooden donkey.

when alfred posts i am a little sad that i stopped drinking before i ever had a negroni. i'm also a little worried about his obsession with negronis. haha! kidding. but i guess i never really cared about....cocktails! i was a beer and wine person from beginning to end. for my own benefit. i drink really fast. or used to. maybe i can get a mock negroni around here.

Cool! I wasn't aware of him prior to the Blake Mills record but he's an interesting & talented weirdo for sure. I know a few of those and it's always nice when one of them gets dragged into the spotlight. :) I'm pretty sure that a Blake Mills-produced record of his material is in the cards.

scott, the cool thing about Negronis: you only need one! They're such a combination of sweet-sour that to order two is to risk gagging. I can't mix'em on consecutive days either.

I went for a late night walk to the bottle-o last night to pick up all the ingredients for a Negroni, credited to your consistent promotion on this board. It tasted great and I am currently buying the hype.

negronis are great to order if you're in an unfamiliar bar and you need to get a feel for the bartender's capabilities before ordering something more complex. cause it's pretty hard to screw up a negroni. if it's subpar or just okay, at least you know what their limitations are. if it tastes like the childhood in Italy you never had and when you close your eyes you see candy stripes everywhere and you're at the cirque le carnival de venise, and then the boozy kick of the gin hits you and threatens to whisk you off to dreamland, you know your bartender can mix a drink.

my local does a Curry Negroni which is interesting but a bit much for me

I am a musician so I spend a lot of time in bars, and you might be surprised by how many drinks that are hard to screw up, and yet, people do.

I have been in bars that screwed up a beer. Like, "gimme a beer" and they're like, "okay, what's in that?"

there's a fairly novice bartender at the bar where I hang and sometimes work the door, and I saw him intently studying the weird amaro bottles.. I asked what he was looking for: "Greyhound!"

It’s always an experience watching someone order a drink that’s probably above the expected level in a place even if they have the ingredients, usually falling back on the customer not gauging their environment. Probably not so much on that drink, if they have juice

sometimes the bartender doesn’t know for sure if you’re just there for a nice drink or to get loaded and you get the crispiest gin&tonic ever. having a clued-in person helps

i don't think i've ever gone on bandcamp? i feel bad for ned though. i know he loves the place. and anyone hear who works/worked there! sorry it got bought by evildoers. that's just the way of the techbizzness though i think. buy and then dump and then lay off and then buy something else and....forever. seems like it would make you so tired to do that all the time.

nah the Bandcamp thing really is disappointing because it really did seem to be run by people who loved music and were willing to pay artists fairly which is a real rarity these days, but yeah that's the way of the world

not just a really bad thing for the ppl who use it as customers or work at it but also for musicians in general

need a true artist co-op on the internet.

worker-owned businesses are the future here where i live. the local pickle company is an inspiration like that.

scott, the other bit of bandcamp is it's probably the largest direct market for bands and labels to sell physical media these days, outside of shows. I have no clue what the bandcamp cut is, but you can buy vinyl, cds, t-shirts, and assorted ephemera on there, too. you might have some used records (albeit of recent vintage) in your store someone bought off there!

yeah, its totally popular! well, i guess people have to hope for the best. the sharks who bought it claim to want to still give artists their cut? but who knows. it does suck when something works and people break it anyway. discogs is a similar case.

ppl got mad at me a couple of years ago when I mentioned Bandcamp on this thread. I don't have anything against it, it's just never been part of my life!

yeah its like myspace. i never went there but i got why people did. i had an account it just wasn't for me. i wasn't even friends with anyone there. not even that one guy everyone was friends with.

i also just don't buy music online. or merch. youtube has always given me 100% of what i want from music online. and i do pay 10 bucks a month or whatever for the premium YT. but i doubt artists get much from them. just a hunch.

wait now i am remembering that i might have bought that live Can CD from bandcamp? the double cd. i think that was the only way i could get it here at the time. i pre-ordered it! i'd never done that before.

i have gone to label websites to buy. mostly metal. didn't need bandcamp for that.

I think some of my collaborations are on Bandcamp? Maybe? Some on SoundCloud and some just YouTube. I have never been very good at putting everything in one place, and I am normally just a sidebeing so I don't necessarily even know where, when, or if things get released.
