does anyone really care how many likes some tweet got, feel like it works the other way around if you see a tweet has a ton of interactions then maybe you look at the comments
― lag∞n, Friday, October 6, 2023 5:25 PM (four hours ago) bookmarkflaglink
Who knows the intent but it seems like one thing this would do hide how few interactions a lot of the blue-check posts they're boosting actually have. I think it's true people are more likely to click on things that already have a lot of engagement, so hiding the numbers on the blue-check posts could theoretically help them get more engagement by making it less obvious what losers they are? Anyway, that plus the ad thing feels like an effort to turn Twitter from something more like a tool you could use into a stream of passive content forced on you regardless of your interest. (With the caveat that you can always just quit, of course.)

look there's a dopamine rush associated with getting a ton of likes and RTs making that shit not matter is just gonna further disincentivize users from actually trying to make good shit. i mean like it or not the gamification is sorta central to the platform
― frogbs, Friday, 6 October 2023 22:18 (two years ago)
It is, he's just trying to rig the rules of the gamification to favor his trolls. But it won't work because nobody likes them.

people who bought the blue check thought they were gonna be twitter stars lol
― lag∞n, Friday, 6 October 2023 22:32 (two years ago)
paying for it is an instant request for wallet inspection so I can't really blame Musk for milking the herd tbh

It's fun to think about how many of the remaining blue ticks realise they've been pwned but are hanging on in there because they refuse to acknowledge it publicly

more from that advertising $ story
During the September 27 interview, Yaccarino also claimed, “In the last 12 weeks alone, about 1,500 advertisers have returned. So whether it is small business or big brands, right? Like AT&T, Visa, Nissan, all returning.” Of those three companies she specifically mentioned, AT&T is the only one that was a top advertiser pre-Musk, and the company has spent just $781 in the last 12 weeks — 99.96% less than the more than $1.77 million it spent during the 12 weeks before Musk’s acquisition.Visa and Nissan are similarly spending just a fraction of what they spent pre-Musk. Visa spent just $10, and Nissan spent just $687, in the last 12 weeks — 99.99% and 99.77% less than they respectively spent during the 12 weeks before Musk’s acquisition.

what kind of ad do you get for ten bucks? I might get in on this
― Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 6 October 2023 23:05 (two years ago)
I wouldn't be surprised if the Visa ads were just displayed on accident and they got invoiced for them
― c u (crüt), Friday, 6 October 2023 23:28 (two years ago)
tfw when you target just one specific guy on twitter..... and he scrolls past your ad

I went for months feeling like Twitter was going to basically stay the same for normal users even while Musk kept getting weirder and bitterer but I have to say, in the last few weeks there is really noticeably more right-wing troll content in my "For You" tab, and just plain LESS in my "Following" tab, presumably because a lot of people I follow are no longer posting.
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 9 October 2023 00:37 (two years ago)
As long as the fascist neo-nazi content is saturating the rest of the platform, but isn’t right on my feed, I’ll keep using it, eh?

yea I opened it last night what with Sunday Night Football and a MLB playoff game going at the same time, usually it's pretty active then but I'm getting like 5-6 new "posts" every 10 minutes, nothing like what it used to be

yeah idk how elmo is insulting. you’re either not wanting to say his name, or you’re comparing him to a children’s character that was only publicly reviled when he was made into a popular toy but has otherwise been a beloved, empathetic character for several generations
