Damn the Torpedoes (that I told that Australian billionaire about)

After all it was a great big world,
With lots of shithole countries to run to

Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Friday, 6 October 2023 03:08 (two years ago)

Is that from the iconic song "American Girth"?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 October 2023 03:10 (two years ago)

bro pls stop talking about his girth 🙏

the wind beneath my wang (cat), Friday, 6 October 2023 03:22 (two years ago)

Yeah, sorry, I honestly saw the pun first and didn't think beyond that.

Though I do think one of the guy's most identifiable traits is he is just kind of big and lumbering. Nothing even to do with his weight, per se, he's just generally big and tall and seems to hulk over those around him (partly by design, due to the alleged lifts, but also the way he leans kind of up and forward, a compulsion to look aggressive and alpha). When I see him sitting at trial he kinda looks like an adult sitting uncomfortably at the kids table.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 October 2023 12:38 (two years ago)

Front half of centaur, as has been pointed out. Although I didn’t know centaurs had their assholes at the front

assert (matttkkkk), Friday, 6 October 2023 12:50 (two years ago)

Half-asshole, half horse's ass.

One of my big Trump memories was channel surfing 15-20 years ago and landing on one of his beauty pageants, seeing him sitting strategically for camera attention a couple rows behind the judges, looking disgruntled and what at the time I took to be 'roided out, a huge body wrapped in a ill-fitting tux topped by a tiny head.

Son & Husband of immigrants on immigrants:

“Nobody has any idea where these people are coming from, and we know they come from prisons,” said the former president. “We know they come from mental institutions, insane asylums. We know they’re terrorists.
“Nobody has ever seen anything like we’re witnessing right now. It is a very sad thing for our country. It’s poisoning the blood of our country. It’s so bad, and people are coming in with disease. People are coming in with every possible thing that you could have.”

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 6 October 2023 22:53 (two years ago)

Trump, just white supremin' on a Friday.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 6 October 2023 22:58 (two years ago)

"poisoning the blood of our country", this has to be a Stephen Miller line, going full Mein Kampf

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 6 October 2023 23:03 (two years ago)

that is what I was thinking

Dan S, Friday, 6 October 2023 23:14 (two years ago)

It's a pretty clear callout to his white nationalist supporters.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 6 October 2023 23:16 (two years ago)

A lot got made of one of his gang of incompetent lawyers, Alina Habba, turning up in court with a gaming laptop, the "2070ti asus laptop with the blue underglow". It's probably more of a tell that it was possibly she who didn't check the jury trial box on the form. Not being sexist here, it could have been another one that fucked that up. But fair to say she doesn't project legal competence by insisting it has been a "strong week" for him.

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Friday, 6 October 2023 23:17 (two years ago)

There's a group of billboard/ambulance-chasing personal injury attorneys called Habbas that advertise here in the Bay Area.. wonder if she's a relation

Into the Great White Colon

felicity, Friday, 6 October 2023 23:20 (two years ago)

the "nobody has ever seen anything like this before" "no one has ever heard of this" thing might be my least favorite Trump rhetorical tic

c u (crüt), Friday, 6 October 2023 23:23 (two years ago)

"people come up to me, people come to me and they tell me, 'Sir, sir'" is probably my least favorite

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 6 October 2023 23:28 (two years ago)

Yes, big, strong men with tears in their eyes. Does anyone believe that?

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 6 October 2023 23:31 (two years ago)

A lot got made of one of his gang of incompetent lawyers, Alina Habba,

Ali Baba?

hat trick of trashiness (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 6 October 2023 23:32 (two years ago)

tbf, Trump will often insert a parenthetical "can you believe it?" into these stories to emphasize just how unbelievable they are. obviously he's a man to whom unbelievable things happen as often as they are needed to prove whatever point he wishes to make.

Based on her McCarthy vote, we do know she's very much "jump in the line" at this point

Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable POST (Dan Peterson), Monday, 9 October 2023 21:09 (two years ago)

I'll admit that, as a person who is opposed to every aspect of his existence, I'm occasionally overly eager to go for the 'what a fucking moron' GOTCHA! at times when the facts perhaps don't necessarily warrant a GOTCHA!, but in this instance, it really does not seem like he's capable of separating the character from the actor who plays the character. I'm genuinely unconvinced that he's aware of the difference.

remember when he thought Vince McMahon died in a car explosion because of a WWE storyline?

Curious as to when & why Hopkins said he liked Trump.

an icon of a worried-looking, long-haired, bespectacled man (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 9 October 2023 22:19 (two years ago)

No, no, Hannibal Lecter said that.

Well of course he did...

seems like it was

Mads Mikkelsen said in a 2016 CBS News interview that he had no idea what to think about Donald Trump as he had never met him.

"He’s obviously not the classic politician, that’s for sure. I can definitely laugh at some of the stuff he says but I can also go, 'Oh my God, did he say that?' I think he’s a fresh wind for some people, but that’s what you’re voting for, I guess, right? It’s a big job," he said.

"I love Mad Max's son for what he said abou me. And that other Austrian, you know, Jack Hughman."

nashwan, Monday, 9 October 2023 22:59 (two years ago)

lol, no surprise it wasn't one of the supremo luvvie melts Hopkins or Cox

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Monday, 9 October 2023 23:03 (two years ago)

The simplest explanation is that Trump forgot Anthony Hopkins' name so he substituted the name of the one role he played that everyone instantly recognizes. Chances are if he'd said "Anthony Hopkins" instead of "Hannibal Lector" fewer people in the audience would have known just who he was talking about anyway.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Monday, 9 October 2023 23:16 (two years ago)

Surprised he didn't say Hannibal Buress
