I'm astonished to learn that over 99% of games played on chess.com are speed games - even given you could fit in 100 or more in the time it takes to play a single one or three day limit game.

i dont play on chess dot com but just doing a lil googling and they categorize all of their default time controls except "daily" which is kind of a correspondence game i guess as speed so it kinda stands to reason

if they count 10/0 as blitz and not rapid then i bet 99% of games are blitz/bullet

this article says 10 minute games are the most popular on there which is kinda surprising since rapid is usually considered the most annoying time control but i could see it having appeal to less experienced players who want to take a lil more time, on lichess the player pools def get more skilled as you move down in time, tho ive never played correspondence so idk whats up with that

increments really not popular, ive wondered if theres a difference in quality of play between the incremented and non incremented games cause on lichess at least your rating is just by larger category bullet blitz rapid, i always play increments its nice to have a lil movin around time

seems like they were considering 10+0 blitz when this was written or maybe they were just confused

lichess has 30+0 as classical where fide has the shortest classical game at 60+0

(I actually love playing against that opening, it’s just so smarmy, feel great to chuck in a D4 followed by a knight on the rim and watch the game transform)

yeah i think magnus isnt that into playing anymore but he cant really stop since his brain is mostly chess

listening to top guys in general tho they are all super concerned about cheating, seems nearly consensus that online chess is completely compromised

which is kinda weird as magnus and the other top guys still crush online tourneys regularly

I think it’s a justified sentiment, and Magnus has the clout to actually make a change in this regard. Yeah the rhetoric feels a little “wah wah I lost that isn’t supposed to happen”, but I don’t think anyone can argue with the substance of the post. That Hikaru/Dubbo video shows how easy it is to cheat, and with the stakes of chess at this level, to allow people to wear things in Chess that could easily be compromised and where there’s really no downside to banning these items? Feels a bit silly.
