One thing I will never underestimate about Trump is his ability to bleed his marks completely dry. They will shove that cash into his teensy little hands if they have to sell their kids to get it.

I don't think this strategy is really that risky. Why would he burn a bunch of cash campaigning against a field that can't be bothered to attack him on anything? None of the other Republicans are acting like they actually want to win this.

Reportedly he's scheduled to be deposed in the Peter Strzok/Lisa Page thing, which is ironic on so many levels. He talked shit about them and interfered in their firing, so they filed a civil suit, which draws him in for a deposition where he will no doubt (given his track record) open himself up to further legal action.

The Biden issue is one of them "well I wouldn't start from here" questions. Can't see that there's any younger pol who has the necessary profile + popularity to be a better bet. He has experience of campaigning and winning against Trump. And if Biden can take a big slice out of the coot vote as in 2020, that outweighs younger people thinking he's too doddery, because old people votes seem to count double.

Same here re: centrists, but there has been no prep from Democrats to prepare for a leadership change. Despise Garton Ash but the sleep is deep with that lot.

If we judge Biden by actions and results instead of how creaky his voice sounds, the consensus among US Ilxors leans towards his having been v competent and effective, and perhaps even startlingly progressive - the appearance on the picket lines this week isn't nothing, and is unprecedented. That's not what gets a vast chunk of the electorate voting though, I guess. Am very much hoping Democrats are considering who will takes the reins next, though. Newsom is very good at taking the fight to the media, but I haven't really a clue on where he stands with the larger, or even smaller, issues. Again, in the media climate we have now, that might even be a strength.

But I mean Biden could die, before the election even. But so could Trump. Welcome to the duality.
