I believe it's a riff on the tweet Josh linked to above

Yes

I'm honestly wondering how he is going to have an actual campaign if all his funds are going to legal bills

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 27 September 2023 20:32 (two years ago)

The only solution is to send him more donations.

One thing I will never underestimate about Trump is his ability to bleed his marks completely dry. They will shove that cash into his teensy little hands if they have to sell their kids to get it.

The fact that they can seriously buy NFTs of Trump as a superhero or a rock star with no irony astounds me. If Obama would have marketed himself in that way the right wing blogoshere would have flamed him to death.

iirc the last set of Trump-sponsored NFTs sold as fast as dead armadillos

it's fascism. it has little truck with irony at its own expense.

Now camp, on the other hand…

deep wubs and tribral rhythms (Boring, Maryland), Wednesday, 27 September 2023 23:31 (two years ago)

it's kind of amazing just how camp the GOP has swung.. besides Boebert, Santos & Trump, DeSantis sounds just like Paul Lynde on Holiday Squares with his kooky, forced laugh

Curious to see where this trend goes

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 27 September 2023 23:38 (two years ago)

“Ensconced in campaign slacker mode, Trump would like to pretend that nothing of substance will change over the next 14 months, so he should get his second term now. It doesn’t take a zoologist to appreciate that the world doesn’t stop when a bear hibernates. Trump might want to pretend the rest of the campaign is a meaningless charade, but a lot of history is about to go down between today and November 2024.”

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 28 September 2023 00:41 (two years ago)

I don't think this strategy is really that risky. Why would he burn a bunch of cash campaigning against a field that can't be bothered to attack him on anything? None of the other Republicans are acting like they actually want to win this.

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Thursday, 28 September 2023 01:05 (two years ago)

yeah he needs that cash for the lawsuits ;)

tbf there was an industrious market of bootleggers doing this sort of stuff and I think it sold well, I'd point you to the thread where we documented this (Obamasploitation or something it was called?) but sadly I'm sure 90% of images from it are broken now.

Haha but of course

The Detroit News reported: “One individual in the crowd who held a sign that said ‘union members for Trump’ acknowledged that she wasn’t a union member when approached by a reporter after the event.

“Another person with a sign that read ‘auto workers for Trump’ said he wasn’t an auto worker when asked for an interview. Both people didn’t provide their names.”

i'm thinking he should get the man without a country treatment. revoke his passport and citizenship and banish him to a far off land. that would make me happy. and if he ever comes here again for any reason: immediate detention in gitmo.

Reportedly he's scheduled to be deposed in the Peter Strzok/Lisa Page thing, which is ironic on so many levels. He talked shit about them and interfered in their firing, so they filed a civil suit, which draws him in for a deposition where he will no doubt (given his track record) open himself up to further legal action.

The Biden issue is one of them "well I wouldn't start from here" questions. Can't see that there's any younger pol who has the necessary profile + popularity to be a better bet. He has experience of campaigning and winning against Trump. And if Biden can take a big slice out of the coot vote as in 2020, that outweighs younger people thinking he's too doddery, because old people votes seem to count double.

Same here re: centrists, but there has been no prep from Democrats to prepare for a leadership change. Despise Garton Ash but the sleep is deep with that lot.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 29 September 2023 10:10 (two years ago)

If we judge Biden by actions and results instead of how creaky his voice sounds, the consensus among US Ilxors leans towards his having been v competent and effective, and perhaps even startlingly progressive - the appearance on the picket lines this week isn't nothing, and is unprecedented. That's not what gets a vast chunk of the electorate voting though, I guess. Am very much hoping Democrats are considering who will takes the reins next, though. Newsom is very good at taking the fight to the media, but I haven't really a clue on where he stands with the larger, or even smaller, issues. Again, in the media climate we have now, that might even be a strength.

Lumpy pillows, kiss my ass. Put that in your book (stevie), Friday, 29 September 2023 10:51 (two years ago)

But I mean Biden could die, before the election even. But so could Trump. Welcome to the duality.

OTM. The political gerontocracy in the U.S. is a real problem, but a lot of the concerns raised about Biden's age seem to place too much weight on his ability to project a strong public image. The media, for instance, obviously wishes that he was more of a dynamic personality who could be covered as Obama and Trump were (for different reasons). But why should I care?
As long as his administration is getting stuff done, it could be Weekend at Biden's in the White House.

jaymc, Friday, 29 September 2023 13:29 (two years ago)

scott seward, Friday, 29 September 2023 13:36 (two years ago)

She's being exactly as competent and (in)visible as most other veep before Cheney. The only way the criticism makes sense is to remember what a racist society we still are.
