"Blaze your glory" appears to be a repurposing of the phrase "a blaze of glory", which was originally embedded in the phrase "going out in a blaze of glory" and was meant to evoke the image of a violent death involving self-immolation. So, perhaps unconsciously, Elon kinda nailed it.

the man's never going to be a poster and it's obviously something he thought was clever and immediately rolled out without focus grouping it on the site

or he posted it and got a bunch of engagement from the dumbest sycophants on the planet and was encouraged

fact that they had to change it to formerly twitter shows that the name change must be hurting their downloads a lot, of course it wont help much, what would help is calling the app twitter

loving the letter x is extremely gen x brained, it was slang for ecstasy which then became e for old millennials which is more neutral less trying to be cool, blaze of glory feels way older, tho there was the bon jovi song in the prime gen x years

doubt elon associates it with ecstasy just an example of how it was considered a totally bad ass letter

there’s an entire late gen x early millennial cohort who think the x-files were sexy and cool

every magazine article about the show or an interview accompanied by the hottest scully and mulder pics when they were too busy finding the knife alien or getting alien embryos implanted to actually do it

i’m early millennial but i unjustly disdain xfiles as nothing but corporate-processed twin peaks (yes i’m sure i’m not gen x)

difficult listening hour, Sunday, 24 September 2023 22:37 (two years ago)

I used to sneak into my parents room (at 9pm) as an eight year old to watch the X Files, show is and was legit though I stopped watching around s4 or so. The knife alien tweet is all time.

ydkb (gyac), Sunday, 24 September 2023 22:40 (two years ago)

many xposts but Millennium was MAYBE good for two seasons, and that’s generous allowing that s1 was patchy.
s3 was a dud. but s2 legit great.
so it had one great season.

no way that eclipses xfiles! unless yr just being some contrarian rockist out here trying to love a show no one remembers well enough to argue with you :)

X-Files was legitimately good to great for five, maybe six seasons give or take. even the worst monsters of the week eps were just the vegetables you ate to get closer to another alien story arc, which WERE consistently fucking great tv and that was reliably true for a few years before it fell apart.

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 24 September 2023 23:38 (two years ago)

I guess I've just never given a fuck about aliens. I assume extraterrestrial life is already here, and we just don't know it because it's in the form of, like, lichen, or a vapor, or those things that swim around in our eyeballs. Not little dudes who want to communicate with us/probe us/kidnap us back to their ship. There is no ship. So Millennium, which was all about all the fucked-up things we tell each other to justify/excuse horrible deeds, was inherently much more interesting to me.

read-only (unperson), Sunday, 24 September 2023 23:43 (two years ago)

There is no sense in which the X-Files isn't about that, though.

a show no one remembers well enough to argue with you

I've seen at least two articles on it in the last fortnight, due to the 30-year anniversary.

Also "The Postmodern Prometheus" episode is one of the finest episodes of television made in the 90s.

I encourage all to watch it. Maybe “best” is the wrong superlative, “smartest” and “cheekiest”
better descriptors.

I've seen a few episodes here and there over the years but never watched it when it was on. Gotta say, it's kind of mind-boggling, when you think about it, that most (American) TV shows typically had 22 episodes a season or whatever, let alone shows with location shoots and relatively high budgets. It's always so daunting when nostalgia directs me back to rewatch something I once enjoyed and I realize what a commitment it would require.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 25 September 2023 02:40 (two years ago)

one episode that has always stuck with me as being fun was the one with Luke Wilson, a sort of rashoman where the story is retold a few times and each time Wilson's acting changes to suit how mulder and scully remember him.

dan selzer, Monday, 25 September 2023 03:01 (two years ago)

"Bad Blood" - a classic.

The one that's on my short list of best TV episodes of all time is "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," from Season 3.

Re: the commitment of 22 episodes a season - most shows that do that have some kind of formula that makes it a little easier, but the really astonishing thing about the x-files is that it managed that without having much of a formula beyond "Mulder and Scully investigate something wacky." You never quite knew what you were going to get.

Lily Dale, Monday, 25 September 2023 03:08 (two years ago)

What was the one with the split screen thing going on? that was a good ep, I recall, and funny.
