A few years ago I read that book The World Without Us.. if we disappeared, the author states, all dog breeds would revert to wolves/coyotes in a very short time, just a few generations. Specialty breeds need humans to keep them going

in the UK there is a tediously predictable cycle of some different breed of dog getting demonised every few years. And it really is tedious. But I still wouldn't get one of them dogs.

Interesting to see people reveal their alignments without having to ask but otherwise yes twitter is a place where people pretend to be thought leaders but are actually engagement hunters so their content prioritizes sensationalism over nuance. Complicated topics get boiled down to simplicities that are injected with melodrama so everything becomes quick and spicy with clear lines drawn in the sand.

its cliche and old hat to say but: kanye, taylor, beyonce. never cared and probably never will? i have *tried* to love beyonce and every other album or so i will attempt to make myself excited over one of her hour-long infomercial lifestyles of the rich and rich empowerment seminars in beautiful booty science and then i forget everything i saw and heard an hour later. i dug destiny's child okay. but they were no en vogue.

and taylor, yeah, i don't care and it would take so much effort to even try to care. i see and hear her by osmosis so she already gets into my psychic airspace without me lifting a finger. if you gave me the title to any of her songs that wasn't "shake it off" i wouldn't know it. maybe if i heard it. i watched the long-version of her sad jake video. that was pretty cool. in an experimental *how much art can you take?* mark kozelek sorta way. but she is so bland. super-talented i'm sure. maybe its nice that she's so wholesome for the kids. that's nice, right? but the world is on fire. wait, she is singing the kids to sleep while the world burns. awwww, now i like her more. that IS a valid function. i'm sure her songwriting is next level and bonkers creative and someone should tell me about it no wait don't. she came to my street when she was dating this kennedy kid while he was going to deerfield academy and i was closed! missed her by that much. you KNOW she would have come in and gone full visa commercial and showed the kennedy kid a funny record cover and pull his hat down and laugh and dance to the crazy sounds in my store. or maybe not. she DID go to Taylor's Tavern across the street for lunch though. because of the name.

but i don't hate any of them or anything. i don't even hate kanye. i feel bad for him. he's been pretty fucked up.

The movie was great. Sofia Coppola's a genius. I have no interest in anything beyond that, though.

that movie sucked. i can definitely see sofia getting all hot about it. but it was boring and sucked. a million teens-in-trouble t.v. movies are better.

it's my least favorite of her movies certainly but I thought it was fun

Introduced my students to him last week!

Football matches starting with a minute's silence for some news story irrelevant to the sport, be it war, child murders or Captain Tom keeling over once and for all. probably cuz i mentioned ruth garbus was on office hours cuz she is from here - or brattleboro anyway - and she is buds with chris who lives there as well.

i deejayed a thing last summer in brat and chris played with my pal omeed. at epsilon spires. which is a cool spot and it is run by jamie from the bunnybrains my brother's old band.

those guys are on a whole other wavelength than me. they are in to that kinda academic super-minimal weird tuning thing and i don't really always get it because i am bad at math. but they are cool. omeed was also in Donkey No No with my friends gen and ted and a toy wooden donkey.

when alfred posts i am a little sad that i stopped drinking before i ever had a negroni. i'm also a little worried about his obsession with negronis. haha! kidding. but i guess i never really cared about....cocktails! i was a beer and wine person from beginning to end. for my own benefit. i drink really fast. or used to. maybe i can get a mock negroni around here.

Cool! I wasn't aware of him prior to the Blake Mills record but he's an interesting & talented weirdo for sure. I know a few of those and it's always nice when one of them gets dragged into the spotlight. :) I'm pretty sure that a Blake Mills-produced record of his material is in the cards.

I went for a late night walk to the bottle-o last night to pick up all the ingredients for a Negroni, credited to your consistent promotion on this board. It tasted great and I am currently buying the hype.

negronis are great to order if you're in an unfamiliar bar and you need to get a feel for the bartender's capabilities before ordering something more complex. cause it's pretty hard to screw up a negroni. if it's subpar or just okay, at least you know what their limitations are. if it tastes like the childhood in Italy you never had and when you close your eyes you see candy stripes everywhere and you're at the cirque le carnival de venise, and then the boozy kick of the gin hits you and threatens to whisk you off to dreamland, you know your bartender can mix a drink.

I am a musician so I spend a lot of time in bars, and you might be surprised by how many drinks that are hard to screw up, and yet, people do.

I have been in bars that screwed up a beer. Like, "gimme a beer" and they're like, "okay, what's in that?"

there's a fairly novice bartender at the bar where I hang and sometimes work the door, and I saw him intently studying the weird amaro bottles.. I asked what he was looking for: "Greyhound!"
