if you spend any time looking at right wing media, especially comment threads or call-in shows, the calls for violence are so common that it's probably hard to suss out who is talking shit and who is serious

I mean, we have this historical stereotype (or at least history classes and documentaries have conveyed to me) that revolutionaries and violent political actors are these ideological die-hards but the reality is that many of them are shmucks who love the opportunity to get rowdy with their peers, or are really into a stance that they might completely flip on given a change in circumstance. And some are just outright opportunists.

And some of them are simply stupid and gullible, their brains atrophied by "doing their own research" online 24/7.

There's no realistic doubt that Trump asked for and was presented with a wide variety of ideas for stealing the election, that he approved of them, and directed people like Meadows, Eastman and Giuliani to actively pursue them. He did his share by loudly and openly claiming he won and that any evidence Biden won was based in voter fraud. He was well aware of the Proud Boys, Three-Percenters, Oathkeepers and QAnon because he was thoroughly briefed about them. His long term history shows how well he understands the use of threats, intimidation and violence as a tool for getting what he wants.

But mainly there's no doubt because he did it all in the open! It was reported in the news on a daily basis all through the months just before the election right up to January 6th, 2021.

My fear right now is that the Cop City RICO case is going to get challenged by the ACLU and others, quickly escalated to the US Supreme Court, and the conservative justices do a little about-face and invalidate the Georgia RICO statues on that one to look like they're not meddling in the election one.

I think using RICO statutes for an semi-organized group of protestors will not hold up in court at all... there's thing whole thing in the Constitution about 'redress of grievances' that covers protestors. They can be charged with trespassing, vandalism, etc., but that's not what RICO was set up for
