The super deluxe release Of Some Girls in 2011 was their best since Dirty Work.

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 6 September 2023 16:38 (two years ago)

At least some of the critics in 1978 said that the Stones had jumped the shark and pointed to "Miss You" as evidence.

Then, too, there was the controversy over the "black girls" lyric. They just seemed an embarrassing anachronism.

i pretty much always play either beggars banquet, let it bleed, some girls, or emotional rescue when i play the stones now. and tattoo you. which i love. and undercover. which i also love. i think that's the stones i need in my life at this late date.

Sticky Fingers is my go-to.

My man. Throw in Dirty Work instead of BB and that's my listening. I'm a fan of what Rob Sheffield once called their mall rat years (1978-1983).

I am shocked, shocked to find so few shout-outs to Steel Wheels and/or "Mixed Emotions" itt.

("Miss You" rules tho)

Idk guys, any time an active musician makes it to their 70s and onward and seeks to record/release new music, it feels like a red-letter day to me. Whether it’s Buffy or Smokey or Scott Walker or Judy Collins or Dylan or Neil, I have an intense interest in old-fart music because it does feel like a proper rarity I guess

I was more plugged in to classic rock circles in the late 90's/early 00's and it did feel like every damn boomer artist was still regularly releasing music, even if just on very small labels. But of course there's way less of them around now.

Daniel_Rf, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 17:43 (two years ago)

Rock stars lived a lot shorter back then

True, Jagger used to be 3'5"!

Halfway there but for you, Thursday, 7 September 2023 00:05 (two years ago)

old guys releasing new music is still cool especially in light of the mass exodus of the classic rock generation these last 7 years but its def pretty sad sometimes

true but also in retrospect they weren't all that old. like I think of ELP in the 90s as an example of the sadness mentioned above and then you realize that they were only in their mid-40s. which a lot of good active touring artists are right now.

idk it seemed fairly random what bands made it and what ones didn't back in the mid-60s, I often wonder what if say Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs got boosted hard and if they would've turned into the Beach Boys when they were really good or something

frogbs, Thursday, 7 September 2023 00:20 (two years ago)

I watched the video for "Angry" today but I was more mesmerized by the billboard special effects than the song itself

But it's fine, it's okay

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 7 September 2023 00:28 (two years ago)

OMG, thank you!! will watch in a bit. hahaha, i'm already laughing.

Wondering if you watched it Scott, and if it delivered?

But his face would not turn into hot Kirby (Evan), Thursday, 7 September 2023 15:47 (two years ago)

the bill maher parody that tim did? yeah, it was fun. he did a great job. bill maher was on ari melber's show last night on msnbc and i was hoping ari would bring it up but why would he? but ari did quote jay z. god he is such a dadrock when he does that...oof. bill maher still hates trump but is still worried about the RADICAL LEFT. cuz they so scary. how? i have no idea.
i still think about how bill maher said before the 2016 election that if donald trump was elected that he wouldn't leave office. nobody believed him.

scott seward, Thursday, 7 September 2023 16:47 (two years ago)

i still need to finish watching Beef House. i don't think i watched it all.

scott seward, Thursday, 7 September 2023 16:48 (two years ago)

if I was a crossbred attack dog with the dog breed classification "American Bully XL". I'd simply confound people by being very charming and not killing anybody.

Lolled hard at some of them! they should introduce an annoying dogs act for Labradors. Mine ate a full tub of Lurpak spreadable while I was at the door, yesterday. A menace in the kitchen.

You would if it attacked you!

But yeah dogs in general, and owners who just let them loose and think everyone will find them 'cute'. Please stop!

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 12 September 2023 09:38 (two years ago)

personally, I love a bouncy happy dog running up to me. But I draw the line at these snarling teeth on legs mutants that look like some HR Giger shit.

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Tuesday, 12 September 2023 09:43 (two years ago)

Yeah they look mutant like but also pugs are seen as cute but they have breathing difficulties too. Don't think they should exist.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 12 September 2023 09:59 (two years ago)

It's the perennial stupid media storms about dangerous dogs that I don't care about, rather than the than the genetically engineered killer mutts and their moronic owners. At least the "devil dogs" epithet seems to have died off since the last bout of "Why oh why" teeth gnashing over this subject.

Monthly Python (Tom D.), Tuesday, 12 September 2023 10:11 (two years ago)

xp
yeah, it's wrong that some breeds are congenitally fucked up just for some bizarre aesthetic sense

I don't care about who's retweeted who, or who's followed who, or anything at all that happens on the tedious bonfire of common sense that is the site formerly known as Twitter. Just let it continue to crumble into dust and we'll all be a lot happier.

Don't care about dogs either, other than the yappy little fucker that sank its teeth into my calf a few years ago because it didn't like the look of me.

Interesting to see people reveal their alignments without having to ask but otherwise yes twitter is a place where people pretend to be thought leaders but are actually engagement hunters so their content prioritizes sensationalism over nuance. Complicated topics get boiled down to simplicities that are injected with melodrama so everything becomes quick and spicy with clear lines drawn in the sand. Salty potato chips with no nutrition but totally addicting, greasy takes make brains flabby.

Evan, Tuesday, 12 September 2023 14:35 (two years ago)

as the person of an American Bully/Amstaff mix, I gotta say that i heartily disapprove and can easily disprove any bias against the creatures. It really is moronic owners

A few years ago I read that book The World Without Us.. if we disappeared, the author states, all dog breeds would revert to wolves/coyotes in a very short time, just a few generations. Specialty breeds need humans to keep them going

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 12 September 2023 21:01 (two years ago)

in the UK there is a tediously predictable cycle of some different breed of dog getting demonised every few years. And it really is tedious. But I still wouldn't get one of them dogs.

There has been some research that has determined that there are DNA similarities between dog breeds that demonstrate “hyper social” qualities and the rare human condition that is Williams-Beuren syndrome

I always loved hearing those announcements when I would do our laundry at the Pilot— we didn’t have a washer/dryer where we lived, and the nearest place was the truck stop down the gravel road.

Removing bookmarks from the Elon Musk and Róisín Murphy threads. I've reached the point where I can assume they will remain shitty people and I no longer need to be aware of every stupid thing they do. Sadly I think this probably won't completely insulate me from further Musk antics.
