Donald Trump: Classic or Dud?

We already know that Trump's most eager followers have a huge appetite for social destruction, so his crimes matter nothing to them. In this primary phase of the election the main question is whether the less nihilistic, more laissez-faire Republicans continue to wash Trump's feet and dry them with their hair.

appetite for social destruction

It's so easy.

LOL, lock 'em all up Donnie

(Glenn) Beck said: “Do you regret not locking (Clinton) up? And if you’re president again, will you lock people up?”

Trump said: “The answer is you have no choice, because they’re doing it to us.”

Trump has encouraged the “lock her up” chant against other opponents but he remains in considerable danger of being locked up himself.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 30 August 2023 23:13 (two years ago)

that's a genuinely deranged question to ask

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 August 2023 23:54 (two years ago)

Yeah, I thought Beck had some kind of mea culpa a few years ago, but I guess he's still a kook

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 31 August 2023 01:21 (two years ago)

He really tried to rebrand? As sensible? Guess I could look this up somewhere.

No doubt in my mind that's the right decision, even though it will be escalate the level of media pundit bloviation, incessant public chatter, and general political tension to nearly unbearable levels.

StanM, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 20:02 (two years ago)

looks like the result of the hearing is that Chesebro and Powell will be tried together starting Oct. 23, it has not been determined whether the other 17 defendants will also be a part of that trial, but the judge said he was skeptical that they should be.

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 6 September 2023 20:17 (two years ago)

That needs a snappy portmanteau like PoBro or Chesebrowell or CheeseBowel.

still stunned at Tarrio getting 22 years, I mean no sympathy for that guy obviously but that's pretty harsh. and I think it then follows that Trump himself deserves 2222 years, though I suspect it's probably gonna be 3 months of house arrest at Mar-a-Lago or something. though I guess we've reached such a bizarre point in US History that it seems useless to speculate anything.

frogbs, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 21:32 (two years ago)

oath keeper guy got 18, same ballpark for the masterminds, if the mob had been antifa they wouldve tried to put terrorism charges on ever last person within a mile of the capitol

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 22:41 (two years ago)

I'll admit that I haven't been following the details of who did what but didn't Tarrio plot and attempt a coup? How is 22 years harsh?

i'm not really following the details either but was he really the main guy? did this shit really start with the Proud Boys? feel like if that was the case he wouldn't have been out on bail

frogbs, Thursday, 7 September 2023 00:03 (two years ago)

i dont think anyones saying they caused the whole thing but they did make a seditious plot and then carry it out

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 September 2023 00:18 (two years ago)

yeah, they weren't there to sightsee the capitol

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 7 September 2023 00:20 (two years ago)

idk its just seeing these guys actually face serious consequences feels so weird, seems like the only time they face this stuff is when they literally execute a mass shooting. and even then you get to pick up a Whopper™ on your way to jail

apparently the saudis have, or are about to, execute a dude for tweeting to his eight followers

given the historical punishments, this guy is getting off pretty easy for legit sedition

mookieproof, Thursday, 7 September 2023 02:21 (two years ago)

he defense was apparently "i was not in DC on jan 6" which is true, and seems pretty exculpatory until you hear what he did before and on jan 6.

Yeah, I mean, like a lot of people online noted, Osama Bin Laden didn't fly the planes, Charles Manson didn't kill any of the Tate-LaBianca victims, etc.

― frogbs,

Tarrio was the Proud Boys leader.

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 7 September 2023 12:21 (two years ago)

leader of an organized group that used code words and allusions to tell the members to do exactly what they did, and one cooperating member testified that it was clear to him and others exactly what they were being told to do. Tarrio wasn’t there but was sending encrypted messages saying things like “keep doing it” on January 6

Roger Stone squeaked out with a presidential commutation and pardon but I would guess any coordination he did as one of a handful of people that talked to multiple groups was also vague. So the loosely-affiliated groups and assorted qanon types at the capitol were really waiting for some sort of orders and the most they got was Trump making vague tweets.

Well I think we can extend its life a little by cracking down on these paramilitaries
