It was very bad, cheap Chinese rather than F&C so you had a lucky escape. I forgot mock chops.

Madchen, Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:39 (sixteen years ago)

did you have a mock chop suey instead?

ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

When's the next one then?

krakow, Thursday, 6 August 2009 21:18 (sixteen years ago)

Lance Armstrong is in Glasgow today en route to the Tour Of Ireland on Thursday and he's doing an open invitation ride at 12pm from Paisley today! I'll be there! How excited am I? Very!

"Hey Glasgow - group ride starts at Ashtree House Hotel. 9 Orr Square. Paisley, Scotland. See you there at noon!!"

krakow, Tuesday, 18 August 2009 09:03 (sixteen years ago)

Graeme Obree turned up for the ride as well, along with about 300 others. There are a couple very jealous cyclists at work here who missed out on it.

firestorm of twat rage (onimo), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 15:06 (sixteen years ago)

Were you there? I rode harder and faster then I ever have in my life. It was an amazing experience, I'm still on a high from it. Being part of 300 cyclists blasting out of Paisley at >20mph in the pouring rain following Lance was a stunning thing.

I'm also on BBC Reporting Scotland: http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/player/?item=44534835
Report starts at 9:30 minutes, you can see me in the blue jacket and black cycling cap taking my gloves off right in front of the camera at 9:52 onwards for a good few seconds.

I rode it fixed, with a laden courier bag, no lycra in sight, and managed to hold my own. Roadies eat that!

krakow, Tuesday, 18 August 2009 22:43 (sixteen years ago)

Bah, most exciting thing to happen in Paisley for years, and I was stuck at work.

ailsa, Tuesday, 18 August 2009 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

I was at work as well. Good job Lance didn't give people much notice or he'd have given the police a big headache on U2/Arsenal chaos day.

Krakow where did the ride go? I heard they covered about 40km in just over an hour. Apparently Obree cycled up from Ayrshire and had already covered 52km before he arrived.

Couple of photos on this guy's flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bazzargh/

firestorm of twat rage (onimo), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 09:45 (sixteen years ago)

Here's the route: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Tour-de-Paisley

It was a bit more than an hour, but not as much as 90 minutes. Like I say, I've never ridden so fast in my life though.

Obree was there. Everyone would have ridden the 10 miles out to Paisley from Glasgow and then a hard going 10 miles back afterwards!

krakow, Thursday, 20 August 2009 20:59 (sixteen years ago)

Except for Lance of course. Bloody lazy bones got a taxi!

krakow, Thursday, 20 August 2009 21:00 (sixteen years ago)

ailsa, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 21:14 (sixteen years ago)

I've heard nothing!

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 13:11 (sixteen years ago)

are you coming?

cozwn, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 13:18 (sixteen years ago)

So I've heard!

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 13:26 (sixteen years ago)

I should probably just e-mail keith and stet my phone number and we'll settle on details later

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 13:26 (sixteen years ago)

Right, so Tomboto in town this Fri to next. Guessing he'll be asleep on Fri and leaving the next, when in between suits?

stet, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 15:38 (sixteen years ago)

I have to get up at 5.30am on Sunday, so would prefer not Saturday night if possible!

Madchen, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 16:18 (sixteen years ago)

Anything suits me really, I think.

ailsa, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

No longer jetlagged!

El Tomboto, Sunday, 6 September 2009 10:18 (sixteen years ago)

we're near Central Station if that helps

El Tomboto, Sunday, 6 September 2009 10:19 (sixteen years ago)

what happens?

conrad, Sunday, 6 September 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)

what is up with all y'alls forty-year-old dudes sporting cargo pants with hoodies and trainers like they're nineteen

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 14:05 (sixteen years ago)

tombot beers tomorrow night?

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 14:23 (sixteen years ago)

Mono @ 8pm Wed is the place for a tombot beer.

(Tom: it's at King's Court. If you tell your cabbie it's opposite the 13th Note he'll know how to get there)

stet, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 15:37 (sixteen years ago)

I'm too destitute to come out to meet the legendary hardman but surely 8pm on Wednesday isn't optimal since Scotland are playing the Netherlands at 19:30?

BIG jock KNEW aka the steindriver (jim), Tuesday, 8 September 2009 15:42 (sixteen years ago)

Your average Mono drinker appreciates football as much as he likes a juicy steak.

Hi, Super Nintendo Chalmers! (onimo), Tuesday, 8 September 2009 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

Aye, you'll have to count me out for tomorrow then, since I have an appointment in any pub/house with a telly. Sorry, Tombot.

ailsa, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 17:10 (sixteen years ago)

sorry dude, watching football

capn save a noob (cozwn), Tuesday, 8 September 2009 18:05 (sixteen years ago)

do not watch football but will not be in glasgow tomorrow which is a smallish shame - hope you are having a nice visit tombot

conrad, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 18:10 (sixteen years ago)

also lol at avoidance of terrible Glasgow steering committee "not mono" nonsense and just plumping for mono anyway.

ailsa, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 18:37 (sixteen years ago)

shame there aren't any public spaces where people can gather that serve drinks and display sporting events.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Tuesday, 8 September 2009 18:42 (sixteen years ago)

There are plenty! I'll be in one!

ailsa, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 18:45 (sixteen years ago)

I will also be in one

capn save a noob (cozwn), Tuesday, 8 September 2009 18:47 (sixteen years ago)

i will be in a domicile imbibing 2 cans of special brew.

BIG jock KNEW aka the steindriver (jim), Tuesday, 8 September 2009 18:49 (sixteen years ago)

But I didn't organise this thing, so, aye. Shame, would have been good to cower in the presence of a proper internet hardman.

ailsa, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 18:49 (sixteen years ago)

We cld meet you guys after, or poss Tom is able and willing for two nights of beer?

stet, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 19:52 (sixteen years ago)

Aye, might be in Glasgow to watch it, not sure. If not, aye, Tom, don't let them break you tomorrow and we could do it all again on Thursday. Early doors on Thursday though, maybe six-ish?

ailsa, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 22:05 (sixteen years ago)

Both Wednesday and Thurday are fine for me. Perhaps I'll do both! Is Thursday OK for Tom?

Madchen, Wednesday, 9 September 2009 11:48 (sixteen years ago)

Glasgow full of Orangemen today, I thought the council were trying to ban that.

Hi, Super Nintendo Chalmers! (onimo), Wednesday, 9 September 2009 11:52 (sixteen years ago)

people in orange KILTS v. disturbing, also the man with the tartan flag painted on his face, wearing a kilt and a HOLLAND HOODIE: just wants to get in a fight with everybody, or simply taking dual citizenship to an extreme?

early doors tomorrow evening (somewhere in merchant city or nearby?) seems perfectly acceptable.
see some of you tonight!

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 September 2009 13:34 (sixteen years ago)

Aye, will be up for that tomorrow. Just that I live out of town, so later means hanging around, or going home and coming back. And after football means late night and transport nightmare getting home, especially with added football traffic.

ailsa, Wednesday, 9 September 2009 16:01 (sixteen years ago)

I feel a bit groo today.

Madchen, Thursday, 10 September 2009 12:25 (sixteen years ago)

getting up at ten before two is the key to a full and happy life

El Tomboto, Thursday, 10 September 2009 12:28 (sixteen years ago)

"Monorail Music is extremely proud to present a very special performance from Edwyn Collins and
Teenage Fanclub playing Orange Juice classics and Edwyn favourites at Mono, King Street tonight.
Doors are from 9pm and this event is FREE so obviously we recommend getting there early to avoid
disappointment. Hope to see you there."

zappi, Thursday, 10 September 2009 12:30 (sixteen years ago)

I saw that on the notice board when we were there last night, but they way they phrased it made me think it was some kind of tribute band.

Madchen, Thursday, 10 September 2009 12:35 (sixteen years ago)

Is there a plan for tonight? If there is, I'm sticking to Diet Coke.

Madchen, Thursday, 10 September 2009 15:17 (sixteen years ago)

I think we're planning on having dinner at around 1830 at the All Bar One @ st vincent & west nile, but one of our US cadre seems determined to go to Trader Joe's on hope street.

I got my little "The Millars" learn-all-about-your-scottishness-in-only-twelve-pages-of-eighteen-point-type "book" today!

El Tomboto, Thursday, 10 September 2009 16:44 (sixteen years ago)

I have just come home due to absence of plan, but I like the sound of that Mono thing. Dunno what to do.

Is not a tribute band thing. Anyone? http://www.edwyncollins.com/

ailsa, Thursday, 10 September 2009 16:52 (sixteen years ago)

Went to Edwyn. Was ace. Thanks for the heads-up, you guys. Am sorry to have missed drinking last night, but am not sorry to have missed the hangover.

ailsa, Thursday, 10 September 2009 23:44 (sixteen years ago)

Glasgow needs more of these pubs still open. Old man pubs are great.
