I like a bartender who will just let a $20 sit on the bar. No hurry

I am at the bar I worked at 20 years ago and just noticed they put in a new floor. 2 Hearted Ale is $3.75 now.

How much is a gin and tonic in your bars? I live near a pub but don't drink that often. They're the sort that always give you a premium brand little can of tonic even though it's too much for one gin. Anyway last time I went in it was £7.75 ffs (that's nearly $10).
― kinder, Saturday, 12 August 2023 10:08 (nine months ago) link
that sounds pretty normal to me. the price ultimately depends on the type of gin.

This question piqued my curiosity so I just ordered a Tanqueray & tonic at my local in Brooklyn and it cost $14 (before tip). This is not a fancy bar btw, in fact it’s modeled after a Liverpool pub.
― Josefa, Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:02 (nine months ago) link
Yup $12 and up
― calstars, Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:09 (nine months ago) link
I should add that I was surprised by this myself, as I normally order all my drinks without paying and then as I’m leaving the bar I ask the bartender what I owe and simply pay what he says. I would have assumed my g&t’s were more like $9 or $10. For comparison, most of the pints here cost $8.
― Josefa, Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:14 (nine months ago) link
$6 + tax for well gin (Gordon's) and cheap canned tonic water iirc. We have nice tonic syrup for customers wanting an improved G&T for 8.50 + tax. A lot of our stuff is probably underpriced.
― The Terroir of Tiny Town (WmC), Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:14 (nine months ago) link
But yeah with a better gin like Plymouth I would expect over $10
― Josefa, Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:17 (nine months ago) link

The Monro in Duke Street. The owner of the Brooklyn place, also called Monro, is a scouser who met his American wife at the Liverpool Monro.

― kinder, Saturday, 12 August 2023 20:43 (nine months ago) link
Ah, right. I've been past the original Munro many times, but never been in. I see the Park Slope place is an LFC haunt. What a shame ;)
― Michael Jones, Saturday, 12 August 2023 21:38 (nine months ago) link
Yeah the place is packed with red jerseyed people on game days. I annoy that crowd by vocally supporting West Ham United

I’n standing over my seat enjoying my whatever when the bartender asks if she can give my seat to her friend, who has just walked in. Sure. But then they don’t talk at all

there's very few bars i enjoy going to these days. it's somehow defaulted to [the vaguely rock & roll bar] where the record collectors and musicians i know work now, since the closing of several other bars over the last decade has left few places for the elder hipsters to serve booze.

I'm posting up at this joint with my favorite bartender on earth; he lets me nurse a gin and tonic for an hour. I'm killing time before watching Passages around the corner.

She left the bar and walked up and down the street a couple of times, then came back in. Had a drink, left again, went to the curb to spit in the street. Had a cigarette, laughed to herself, came back in.

This afternoon's office is a friendly dive in the Little Five Points area of Atlanta. Dark wood, relatively cheap beer, crowd of regulars watching the Braves game. I'm doing a few hours work while my wife has a business meeting. They have two boozy slushies, the machines labeled in magic marker on masking tape. I assume they rotate them. Today it's Pink Lemonade and Peach Margarita, but I just went with a beer from a local brewery.

Here in WI if you pay with a card, a 3-ish% surcharge is often added. That is, if they accept cards at all.
