I just looked up the line "I left my bag in newport pagnell" (*) and the seventh result in google was a post by Alba!

(*) There's still lots of smiths songs I've intentionally never listened to because I'm saving them for when I'm older, when new music might have become shit, and I'll need decent old stuff which I've not heard before. But this means that when a friend who's currently on a bus heading north just texted me saying "i left my bag in newport pagnell", instead of replying with "I left my wallet in el segundo", I said "oh shit, do you need me to look up their customer service number for you or anything?" haha.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 31 March 2006 10:04 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Possibly Ken C at Holborn tube on Saturday afternoon, but I was with my wife and halfway through topping up my oyster card at a machine with my credit card in it, so it seemed inappropriate to run up to someone who was potentially a complete stranger and say 'you're that bloke from the internet!'.

Teh HoBBler (the pirate king), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:00 (twenty years ago)

Pete B on Saturday afternoon. Mrs the Nipper and I were eating in Soho Spice on Wardour St (the salmon is excellent!) and he walked by and knocked on the window.

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 13:15 (twenty years ago)

I ran into Alex in NYC in Union Square on Sunday! I got him to talk about Killing Joke and I said "Honor the fire!" to him twice!

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 13:16 (twenty years ago)

hahahahaha!

25 yr old slacker cokehead (Enrique), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 13:17 (twenty years ago)

emsk on the 38 bus on saturday/sunday/monday (i have no idea what any of the days were this weekend) evening. i was stumbling home after two days of ruin and was in a Bad Way, she was chatting healthily to her friends.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 13:25 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah! it must have been sunday i think. i was entertaining the french. and i sighted emily last night but that was less random and impromptu as she was on stage with her band.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 13:56 (twenty years ago)

I received a letter from a Ms N1pperess today - is the missus submitting scripts incognito, Stevie?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 13:58 (twenty years ago)

did anyone impromptuly see me, on brick lane, a couple of weeks ago, from inside a restaurant, as i was on the street?

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 14:00 (twenty years ago)

restaurants on brick lane are the shit - i miss all that soapy candy

-++---++, Tuesday, 18 April 2006 14:02 (twenty years ago)

I was with my wife and halfway through topping up my oyster card at a machine with my credit card in it, so it seemed inappropriate to run up to someone who was potentially a complete stranger and say 'you're that bloke from the internet!'.

Oddly enough, I find myself far more likely to do this than I am to say hello to someone I actually know.

someone let this mitya out! (mitya), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 14:09 (twenty years ago)

I, not entirely randomly, saw Michael Grant in the pub last week. I can therefore confirm he is definitely back in Glasgow.

I keep randomly sighting Grimly Fiendish but he never notices me, despite the fact he has walked within about two foot of me several times in the last couple of months (possibly because my "lurking outside the office on the pretence of a cigarette break but I'm really just avoiding doing any work" spot seems to be on his route to work, but I'm generally lurking in doorways not in general public view).

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 18:13 (twenty years ago)

i'm glad Michael is alive and well!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 19:24 (twenty years ago)

i think it's because that's quite a good ice-breaker!

btw nope! that was not me at all - there was another sighting of 'me' once in covent garden and i'm starting to think there's a doppelganger of me who lives round there!!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:58 (twenty years ago)

There is - skinny gay boy who works in Kiehl's and gives with the samples, but he wears no glasses.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 21:01 (twenty years ago)

The not Ken C I saw had glasses.

Teh HoBBler (the pirate king), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 21:05 (twenty years ago)

It must have been unKen-ny

(sorry)

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 21:09 (twenty years ago)

:-D

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 21:12 (twenty years ago)

Can I submit scripts incognito, Markelby, and you wave them through even if they're shit?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 06:43 (twenty years ago)

I am subtitling Mark P for the Japanese market, even as we speak.

He is out of sync.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:39 (twenty years ago)

restaurants on brick lane are the shit

i ate at cafe naz. it was grate!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:42 (twenty years ago)

Momus was on my telly the other night - in a documentary about plaster-casting penises. Most unexpected.

miele kitty (miele), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:49 (twenty years ago)

Ha! I was talking about this with a friend who had also seen it, and suddenly had a LOT of explaining to do. She isn't a music person so did not understand about the GTOs etc.

I've been going to the Shampan for nice dinners and Sweet and Spicy or Shalamar for faster sit-down cafe meals on Brick Lane ever since moving to London. I like Shampan because they were the original Hey We Are Bangladeshis Not Indians restaurant and NONE of these places need to use teenage curry touts (although in lots of cases the family who owns the restaurant is just keeping one of their younguns on close observation in a neighbourhood where it's easy to be exposed to smack/crack culture if you're hanging around at home with nothing to do and a place at a shit school).

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:57 (twenty years ago)

I keep randomly sighting Grimly Fiendish but he never notices me, despite the fact he has walked within about two foot of me several times in the last couple of months

i keep looking out for you, ever since you first mentioned this. AND I NEVER SEE YOU. now i'm scared. please don't shoot me with a high-velocity sniper rifle.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 20 April 2006 22:09 (twenty years ago)

I just saw Momus at a (very tense) screening of Queen of Sheba Meets the Atom Man at Anthology Film Archives.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Monday, 24 April 2006 01:33 (twenty years ago)

Oh! I walked out before the end. The thing was sort of insufferably whacky art school pranksterism, although some of the period footage was interesting, and there were glimpses of the film it could've been -- Taylor Mead as the Buster Keaton of the downtown set.

And, God, those two old men chattering away the whole time! Someone tell me where the "commentary" menu is so I can switch it off, please! (I'm assuming they weren't you... I'm assuming they were "friends of Taylor".)

Momus (Momus), Monday, 24 April 2006 02:08 (twenty years ago)

Old men chattering? You sure you weren't at Film Forum??

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Monday, 24 April 2006 02:30 (twenty years ago)

Haha, yeah the movie was dissapointing ; it made me appreciate Flower Theif a little more, which is essentially the same thing in San Franscisco but much less forced.

I wasn't one of the old dudes. Someone got into a screaming match with them after the film ended and they were escorted out, more or less.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Monday, 24 April 2006 04:52 (twenty years ago)

God, I wish I'd stayed to hear that, I wanted to scream at them myself.

Momus (Momus), Monday, 24 April 2006 04:57 (twenty years ago)

UPDATE: i met ailsa this morning. she was lurking in an alcove with some dubious-looking older men. i was very miserable and downbeat at her, which was wrong of me, especially at 10 o'clock in the morning.

today was the first day at work i've actually *enjoyed* in the past two and a half weeks, though, which leads me to suspect that meeting ailsa might be some kind of good-luck totem. hmm.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Well, I had a shit day, so thank you for taking my good-day vibes away with you :-)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 05:50 (twenty years ago)

I read that as "I had a shit today". My first thought was that that wasn't much of a boast.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 06:59 (twenty years ago)

well, if she'd been living off hard-boiled eggs and treacle for two weeks, it would.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 27 April 2006 22:33 (twenty years ago)

i saw tynan delong on the marta this morning

-+--+--+--++, Tuesday, 2 May 2006 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Michaelangelo Matos introduced himself to me in Union Square last night.

JW (ex machina), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:17 (twenty years ago)

That sounds like a euphemism if ever I heard one

You'll Never Put a Better Bit of Butter On Your Knife (Dada), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:18 (twenty years ago)

I saw Boris Johnson today! He kept glaring at me, from his bicycle.

I thought he looked ugly.

the bellefox, Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Oh no!

(Though as much as I go on about him, Boris is not an ILX0r.)

((Still, I'm glad to know))

Alone, Jealous and SSRI'd (kate), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Why is the second one doubly parenthetical?

JW (ex machina), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Because it's an afterthought to an afterthought.

Alone, Jealous and SSRI'd (kate), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Logically, shouldn't it be nested inside the first set of parens:

(Though as much as I go on about him, Boris is not an ILX0r. (Still, I'm glad to know))

JW (ex machina), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:33 (twenty years ago)

That's another valid way to do it, yes.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 17:04 (twenty years ago)

You should have nutted him, The Pinefox.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 06:06 (twenty years ago)

Post it on the Celebrity Sightings thread...there is one, somewhere in here.

I saw Dadaismus yesterday evening at Old Street. We got on the same bus.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 08:36 (twenty years ago)

i seen ed this morning, walking down theobald's road with big headphones on. trying to wave hello i almost veered into the path of an oncoming taxi. oops.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 5 May 2006 06:59 (twenty years ago)

I ran into Alex in NYC this weekend where Eighth Street and Greenwich Ave hit Sixth Avenue. He was talking on the cellphone pushing a baby carriage and wearing a Soft Boys t-shirt. I was dressed for Deep Cover on the Colorblind Dad tip. I called out "Alex!" and he said "Yeah? Do I KNOW you?" After I explained who I was he said "I was wondering who that jerk was who was trying to talk to me."

Redd Temple Player (Two Headed Dogg) (Ken L), Monday, 8 May 2006 16:09 (twenty years ago)

I would have felt slightly insulted, but then I was grateful that I got to meet him while he was in character.

Redd Temple Player (Two Headed Dogg) (Ken L), Monday, 8 May 2006 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Crazy late, I know, but hello emsk! Sorry I was very dazed that night, totally all-consuming tiredness and attempting to get boozed AFTER playing, eesh.
