_Bartender has a huge cucumber behind the bar that she keeps cutting into for slices. What could she be making?_
You answered yourself in your previous post iirc

Bartender: “How about a sh0t?”
Client: “Sure!”
B: “what’s your poison?”
sanding ensues

calstars, Saturday, 22 July 2023 04:59 (two years ago)

Bartender realized she overcharged me and gave me back the difference
“I wasn’t going to say anything”

Went to a bunch of bars on a recent trip, including some hotly tipped ones like Shapes for a Name in London. Many were good, a few were great. Our favorite was a place called Brettos in Athens, which is gorgeous for one thing but also kind of funky and laidback. They make their own ouzo, brandy, etc.

Apparently a year and a half ago there was such a surplus of business that this bouncer felt the need to keep me out of the bar based on how I was unsteadily walking down the street. Now I just ignore him

calstars, Saturday, 5 August 2023 01:10 (two years ago)

Tuesday going on Friday

calstars, Tuesday, 8 August 2023 23:03 (two years ago)

I like a bartender who will just let a $20 sit on the bar. No hurry

calstars, Thursday, 10 August 2023 00:16 (two years ago)

“I’ve seen you here before, at the bar sneaking chips from your shopping bag”

calstars, Friday, 11 August 2023 01:59 (two years ago)

I am at the bar I worked at 20 years ago and just noticed they put in a new floor. 2 Hearted Ale is $3.75 now.

$3.75? I’ll have 10

calstars, Saturday, 12 August 2023 02:19 (two years ago)

How much is a gin and tonic in your bars? I live near a pub but don't drink that often. They're the sort that always give you a premium brand little can of tonic even though it's too much for one gin. Anyway last time I went in it was £7.75 ffs (that's nearly $10).

kinder, Saturday, 12 August 2023 10:08 (two years ago)

that sounds pretty normal to me. the price ultimately depends on the type of gin.

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Saturday, 12 August 2023 10:54 (two years ago)

This question piqued my curiosity so I just ordered a Tanqueray & tonic at my local in Brooklyn and it cost $14 (before tip). This is not a fancy bar btw, in fact it’s modeled after a Liverpool pub.

Josefa, Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:02 (two years ago)

Yup $12 and up

calstars, Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:09 (two years ago)

I should add that I was surprised by this myself, as I normally order all my drinks without paying and then as I’m leaving the bar I ask the bartender what I owe and simply pay what he says. I would have assumed my g&t’s were more like $9 or $10. For comparison, most of the pints here cost $8.

Josefa, Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:14 (two years ago)

$6 + tax for well gin (Gordon's) and cheap canned tonic water iirc. We have nice tonic syrup for customers wanting an improved G&T for 8.50 + tax. A lot of our stuff is probably underpriced.

The Terroir of Tiny Town (WmC), Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:14 (two years ago)

But yeah with a better gin like Plymouth I would expect over $10

Josefa, Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:17 (two years ago)

in fact it’s modeled after a Liverpool pub.

Which Liverpool pub, out of interest?

(My kids are in Brooklyn rn, not that they’re old enough to drink in the US!)

Michael Jones, Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:30 (two years ago)

The Monro in Duke Street. The owner of the Brooklyn place, also called Monro, is a scouser who met his American wife at the Liverpool Monro.

Josefa, Saturday, 12 August 2023 19:37 (two years ago)

I used to live around the corner from that place lol

calstars, Saturday, 12 August 2023 20:36 (two years ago)

ok mine doesn't sound so bad then!

kinder, Saturday, 12 August 2023 20:43 (two years ago)

Ah, right. I've been past the original Munro many times, but never been in. I see the Park Slope place is an LFC haunt. What a shame ;)

Michael Jones, Saturday, 12 August 2023 21:38 (two years ago)

Yeah the place is packed with red jerseyed people on game days. I annoy that crowd by vocally supporting West Ham United

Josefa, Saturday, 12 August 2023 22:01 (two years ago)

I’n standing over my seat enjoying my whatever when the bartender asks if she can give my seat to her friend, who has just walked in. Sure. But then they don’t talk at all

calstars, Sunday, 13 August 2023 00:28 (two years ago)

You obviously moved to a bad neighborhood

Josefa, Sunday, 13 August 2023 00:32 (two years ago)

well, yeah

calstars, Sunday, 13 August 2023 00:38 (two years ago)

yeah, a gin gimlet with Bluecoat cost me $10 last night, but this is Philadelphia prices.

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Sunday, 13 August 2023 00:42 (two years ago)

Bartender finally engaging with her friend an hour later

calstars, Sunday, 13 August 2023 01:36 (two years ago)

bar near here has gin and tonic flights at 3 for $25 and each has a fancy garnish

I did not have a flight but a pepper-forward single one had peppercorns and a nice slice of orange

mh, Sunday, 13 August 2023 02:44 (two years ago)

Bar paid for two of my four and I had a chance to say hi to my crush, not a bad evening

calstars, Saturday, 19 August 2023 01:23 (two years ago)

hell yeah summertime crushin

ian, Saturday, 19 August 2023 01:33 (two years ago)

there's very few bars i enjoy going to these days. it's somehow defaulted to [the vaguely rock & roll bar] where the record collectors and musicians i know work now, since the closing of several other bars over the last decade has left few places for the elder hipsters to serve booze.

ian, Saturday, 19 August 2023 01:35 (two years ago)

hell yeah summertime crushin

So crushin’

calstars, Saturday, 19 August 2023 01:36 (two years ago)

ian, Saturday, 19 August 2023 01:37 (two years ago)

Had two brandy old fashioned sours tonight at the bar of the finest supper club in the county, felt like a proper WI evening.

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Saturday, 19 August 2023 04:37 (two years ago)

Favourite bar with jukebox shut down, do i still go out tonight? would have to dodge and slip around all the manchester footy nobs, but off work for a week so feel i am obliged to have some fun.

Ste, Saturday, 19 August 2023 16:37 (two years ago)

Good time to scope out alternate spots imho

calstars, Saturday, 19 August 2023 17:58 (two years ago)

I'm posting up at this joint with my favorite bartender on earth; he lets me nurse a gin and tonic for an hour. I'm killing time before watching Passages around the corner.

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 19 August 2023 18:11 (two years ago)

How much did you pay for it?

Josefa, Saturday, 19 August 2023 18:15 (two years ago)

$14. Hendrick's.

At the dive bar I hit on Thursday's it's $7 or *

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 19 August 2023 20:57 (two years ago)

She left the bar and walked up and down the street a couple of times, then came back in. Had a drink, left again, went to the curb to spit in the street. Had a cigarette, laughed to herself, came back in.

calstars, Saturday, 19 August 2023 23:22 (two years ago)

which Dubliners story are you quoting?

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 19 August 2023 23:26 (two years ago)

This afternoon's office is a friendly dive in the Little Five Points area of Atlanta. Dark wood, relatively cheap beer, crowd of regulars watching the Braves game. I'm doing a few hours work while my wife has a business meeting. They have two boozy slushies, the machines labeled in magic marker on masking tape. I assume they rotate them. Today it's Pink Lemonade and Peach Margarita, but I just went with a beer from a local brewery.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 20 August 2023 19:48 (two years ago)
