btw based on what I'm seeing there's a good chance the 600 tweet "rate limit" never existed and that the site has just been randomly melting down

i think most likely is that they tried to implement the rate limit, but that broke everything and it doesn't work properly because the rate limiter was really not meant to be used like this - some former twitter engineers were talking about that.

Twitter vibe now is sorta “it puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose!”

i've been doing the blue check search ( -filter:verified filter:blue_verified ) to block accounts today. "try reloading" blank screen has appeared a few times, but it's still loading now and blue blocker says i've added 3000 tweets to the queue.

How are embedded tweets showing up on ILX if twitter no longer allows scraping/unlogged in view?

i run three accounts - two for work, and my personal one and still haven't hit the limit on any of them. But I did have trouble following people the other day, from two separate accounts.

Meta are apparently launching a twitter substitute called "Threads"

* do not for a second trust meta to make a social media app which isn't horrible
* don't want to be reminded of nuclear apocalypse every time I open the app

So far all the shit Musk has thrown around with Twitter hasn't really affected my usage. Unfortunately the announcement of removing Tweetdeck for free has officially put the nail in the coffin. I guess I have to find something new now.

I'm going to predict that Threads will win the soshul meedia wars if anything will, because its a known entitiy, and anyone with an instagram login can start using it right away, so plain old laziness/convenience will win out like it always does.

lets see what they come up with, my guess its gonna be bad in some begging ass facebook way, like too aimed at "monetization for creators" or something, twitter isnt like the other social apps its for true posters its gotta promote real sicko behavior, which is in tension with the things competent companies want quality conversation, advertiser friendly content, profitability

facebooks track record on imitating other social apps is not great

We had to stop sign-ups to resolve the tech issues caused by all the people signing up because of Twitter's tech issues

I will certainly switch to Bluesky if enough of the people I follow migrate over there, but at this point "I'm done with Twitter. Meet me over on Blue Sky," is like "Look me up next time you're on the west coast."

I've been on Bluesky 3 days now; it definitely needs more work but the vibes are ok. I'm sure that will be a fleeting thing though as more conservatives log on and whine about how they're being silenced. It always works for them.

Not being able to open sign-ups at a time when the competition is flailing is the definition of missing the moment. Luckily for them Twitter is sure to keep getting worse.

As I move thru my 40s and am now closer to 50 than 39, I increasingly feel like maybe ditching all social media is the way. Easy to say, I know...

I just figured it’s deliberate in order to create an air of exclusivity, just like Facebook started out being restricted to Harvard students and gradually expanded to other prestigious schools before conquering the world. Seems smart.

that could be part of it but theres def a tech aspect too, building a twitter is difficult and expensive for reasons of scale, unless youre facebook then its prob easy
