I still don't believe that people thought Nelson Mandela died in the early 90s.
i've yet to meet one person who thinks this. maybe the 'mandela effect' is based on it's own premise.
― Ste, Thursday, 29 June 2023 09:25 (two years ago)
I dug into the Sinbad - Shazaam thing, convinced this was overblown as a mistaken shared belief, but I found hundreds of people on Twitter aggressively arguing WITH SINBAD that he was in this movie and someone was covering it up.
About eight people linked to the same "proof", a CollegeHumor video that purported to find the lost tape, none of them realizing it was a comedy video making fun of them

An April Fool's joke, at that
― sad Mings of dynasty (Neanderthal), Thursday, 29 June 2023 13:10 (two years ago)
Most Mandela-Effect stuff is just people being wrong. The more suggestible you are, the more likely you are to nod in agreement when someone in your social orbit with a strong personality says something. They're just wrong, but they say it with conviction so you don't question it.
People were wrong about stuff way before it had a meme-y name.
THAT SAID, I am also susceptible to harboring wistful fantasies about alternate universes. We will never be able to completely prove a negative, so the information landscape would seem to permit speculation. Perhaps some of us accidentally slipped through the veil from a universe where things are slightly different.

Walked past a new dispensary in my neighborhood yesterday, the first thought that popped into my head was "yeah, i don't care"
there was a time when my life revolved around weed to an alarming extent, glad it's legal and all, just not interested.

Same - as I've said elsewhere, most of these dispensaries look so uninviting, like the Verizon store next to a Starbucks.. I guess they wanted to 'go legit' but I just don't care anymore

i think the shot put is weird and fascinating tbh
― ꙮ (map), Thursday, 29 June 2023 17:38 (two years ago)
my recommendation is to get high from a product sold by your local weed dispensary and then watch guys doing shot put online

Shot put is definitely the most fun to try

Javelin is just a fancy form of lawn darts

javelin and pole vault are both equally dissatisfying to try vs what you might imagine having watched them
triple jump otoh always fun

My wife has strong opinions about when Christmas lights should come down.
― Halfway there but for you, Thursday, 10 August 2023 14:06 (two years ago)
Some of our neighbors' are still up from December. I'll accept that trade-off for not living in an HOA. In the past, my wife has tried to blur the lines by putting up strings of lights for other holidays - red for Valentine's, green for spring, red white and blue for the 4th, orange for Halloween.

i definitely don't care about robbie robertson's huge impact on music. or The Band. i'm pretty sure that impact resulted in really bad beer commercial music and the late-blooming beer commercial music of steve winwood not to mention the 80s beer commercial guitar of robbie robertson. it was a revolution. it was...woodstock!

why are there 300 separate news articles profiling that rich weirdo who's trying to "age backwards" by taking 150 pills a day and eating dinner at 11 AM and injecting himself with his son's blood? why are we supposed to care about this? what kind of deranged son of a bitch wants to actually live that way? who are these "experts" saying he's gonna live until he's 200? give me a fucking break, this dude's legacy is destined to be to have some brand new thyroid disease named after him

Are you familiar with the concept and role of publicists? Journalists, particularly when it comes to "this rich guy who's written a half-million-dollar check to our PR company" stuff, are so easily led around they might as well have rings in their noses like cows.
