How the fuck is Kim Dotcom still a thing? I thought he went to jail or something years ago?

the real reason they’re banning people with huge block lists is because this site is held together with string and tape. i guarantee you some block lists were breaking something— elizabeth 🫡 (@postingwhilegay) June 27, 2023

Twitter not letting you view stuff while logged out feels huge if it's intended?
― Andrew Farrell, Friday, 30 June 2023 15:08 (ten months ago) link
Yeah, another very dumb move but hard to read intent in this current scotch tape held together state of the site

probably along the lines of the tweet lagoon posted, I'm guessing things are just not running well right now and they're looking for a way to cut traffic

Nitter Redirect chrome extension works fine enough if you need it (will also open up a lot of other things they'd already killed, like search and viewing hashtags links)

I had been checking in with a handful of twitter accounts since I nuked mine, so it was a surprise this morning to not be able to do that. However, I just googled "can't view twitter without account" and found records of people complaining about this problem in the pre-Musk days as well. Not that I don't blame Musk for this instance, but Twitter's jankiness does precede him.
― peace, man, Friday, 30 June 2023 15:40 (ten months ago) link
Yeah for about a year pre-Musk I couldn't get read with no account, which is how I found out about nitter. It became available again when Musk took over, probably cos he sacked so many ppl lol

you could at least view a tweet you were linked to!!!! now it's completely walled off, which is good, fuck twitter
― ivy (BradNelson), Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:05 (ten months ago) link
So weird. Couldn’t see any activity with my most active account, saw this thread and surmised it could be cause I blocked too many blue checks. That sucks cause the main appeal of the site now is as a game where I try to block as many as possible. So I tried to log in with an alt account, I could see the feed but the account is locked for breaking rules (your guess is as good as mine regarding which rule they may have arbitrarily enforced this time). But immediately after logging in with the alt account I went back to my main account and it’s now showing the feed. This is a real spit-and-duct-tape situation isn’t it.

my main account is stuck on "retry"
notifications is working but you can't click thru to a conversation you just get the reply tweet and a flickering blue circle like it's trying to keep up but can't

― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Saturday, 1 July 2023 17:44 (ten months ago) link
hes trying to get people to buy twitter blue, which is so dumb, the paid base for this kind of service is always going to be a small percentage of of the total users, which means you should be trying to increase the total users, not decrease them
― lag∞n, Saturday, 1 July 2023 17:46 (ten months ago) link

― lag∞n, Saturday, 1 July 2023 17:51 (ten months ago) link
I don’t know how they count this — is he counting tweets and replies or just tweets? Even if the latter, it seems like among other things he’s penalizing the blue checks because it’s severely limiting the number of people they can reach with their prioritized tweets.
