A radical shift from my younger days but: keeping up with new media. Music, literature, film, television--if it's worth experiencing, I will get to it sooner or later.

Put another way: I may or may not care about Succession months or even years from now.

Seriously, though, Brad, that's why you're one of my favorite posters, because you are always floridly enthusiastic about the stuff you like, and it's always 180 degrees removed from my taste, so it's fascinating to observe.

Have to say, unperson, Succession will definitely go down in history in the same breaths as all the ones you mentioned. There's no reason it wouldn't. But I guess the point of this thread isn't to make people care about things they just don't care about

Succession's half-life will be long in an annoying way for nonwatchers because people are going to be quoting lines and posting memes from it for a long time. As they do with the Wire, GoT, etc.

But to keep things in the spirit of the thread, something I just don't care about is Martin Amis.

At a certain point, the way the shows saturate pop culture means I don’t have to waste my time watching them.

i avoid a lot of shows bc they're popular and i'm waiting for them to get bad or end before wasting my time, but succession is just like... as good as writing for a visual medium gets, it is such a rich text and i will be thinking about the characters for the rest of my life (cf. novels)

This is what people told me about Deadwood and a) it wasn't true of the two episodes of Succession I watched and b) it wasn't true of Deadwood either. I ground my way through the first two seasons without finding a single character to give a fuck about. On the other hand, I just re-watched Season 5 of Justified, the one everybody hates because of Michael Rapaport's accent, and that was a very entertaining story about a disgusting criminal family flailing around and lashing out at each other in the wake of their patriarch's demise.

fair enough! it just depresses me when writers don’t respond to or don’t want to engage with a well-written thing that happens to be popular but i’m sure you’ve got no shortage of good writing to engage with
