kendall down by the river thinking about how if shiv was first to vote maybe he wins

lag∞n, Monday, 29 May 2023 14:59 (three years ago)

What do y'all think peter's friend's pitch was?

from what i could tell it was something about care homes of not-great quality?

call all destroyer, Monday, 29 May 2023 15:05 (three years ago)

We snuck off on the middle of the afternoon to watch this. fantastic ending, so glad we got a bit of time with Caroline "hearty fare, small rations" or whatever it was. Don't think Shiv ever anticipated having the deciding vote - it was delicious to see. Kendall absolutely screwing it for himself with her, he's fundamentally awful and deluded to the end.

Half worried we'd see either Ken get food poisoning with that concoction, or see his body falling past the boardroom at that final signing. Glad it didn't go there.

hadn't really thought about it before but Rome being a dick highlighted it - Shiv's baby/ies will be the only blood succession line to Logan.

would've loved more Gerri tho

kinder, Monday, 29 May 2023 15:09 (three years ago)

Caroline having barely any food in the fridge and keeping the frozen end pieces of the bread was prime aristo behaviour

So much empty middle management bullshit speak in Tom's pitch for himself lol

kurt schwitterz, Monday, 29 May 2023 15:37 (three years ago)

did tom bring the stickers just to put one on greg, must have, so thoughtful

lag∞n, Monday, 29 May 2023 15:37 (three years ago)

You guys think Greg will become CEO

omar little, Monday, 29 May 2023 15:45 (three years ago)

yes thank you

also their mother struck me as not nearly as awful as she had in the past in this episode, like their total animosity toward her seems misplaced.

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 29 May 2023 16:14 (three years ago)

idk she did guilt trip them about business talk only to spring her husbands pitch on them lol

lag∞n, Monday, 29 May 2023 16:16 (three years ago)

well yeah I didn't say she's great but generally speaking she was right. like, just fucking sell the place and take the money and do something else, what is wrong with all of them

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 29 May 2023 16:20 (three years ago)

shell never understand how hungry one can be for media companies

lag∞n, Monday, 29 May 2023 16:22 (three years ago)

the whole theory about tom's name Wambsgans foreshadowing that he would knock out all 3 kids to win the throne would (obv) have to mean that the writers knew that was the narrative arc from the beginning. has armstrong commented? interviews with mcfadden from earlier seasons suggest the writers didn't really know where they were going with tom's character. maybe they were just setting his character up as one possilbe victor. it makes sense they knew none of the kids would ultimately succeed.

that's not my post, Monday, 29 May 2023 16:24 (three years ago)

Jeremy Strong never looks creepier than when he smiles

Are the kids now still legally on the hook to buy Pierce together? Feel like that could be awkward

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 29 May 2023 16:26 (three years ago)

lol Pierce i think u can safely let thst narrative thread go now

*that

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 29 May 2023 16:33 (three years ago)

they were just setting his character up as one possilbe victor

"Victor" seems the wrong word here, I think a big part of what's going on as the show wraps up is the bright light shined on the difference between "getting the thing you wanted" and "victory"

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 29 May 2023 16:37 (three years ago)

farewell to a wonderful show

I will miss whenever stuff starts to go Kendall's way and he just shifts into cocky CEO mode. Just interrupting everyone, shouting buzzwords, barely finishing conversations. Funniest shit in the world to me

— rain (actual speed) enjoyer (@notnotnuanced) May 29, 2023

lag∞n, Monday, 29 May 2023 16:51 (three years ago)

"Victor" seems the wrong word here,

I think it's the right word in terms of the outcome for the company, but there's no winner of the show, because everyone remains dreadful and incapable of enjoying anything or being content for more than ten minutes.

trishyb, Monday, 29 May 2023 17:07 (three years ago)

"Victor" seems the wrong word here

in the world of the show "victor" is probably right word (tom is the successor). but, as you point, out the show makes it abundantly clear the costs for the winner and the also-rans are terribly steep. And yet, unfortunately for the rest of us, it's a bargain all too many people are willing to make.

that's not my post, Monday, 29 May 2023 17:12 (three years ago)

Can we move on past this basic talking point please, it’s been a thing for like three seasons

Does he still live rent-free at Kendall's place?

trishyb, Monday, 29 May 2023 17:29 (three years ago)

Kendall’s implied infertility is kinda sad.

Also that all of their relationships are now so utterly broken. the brief moments of genuine togetherness in the kitchen and in front of the dinner video are over, it could be decades until they speak again

in all the handwringing online about shiv’s choices in the finale no one seems to take into account that she is maybe choosing for herself ~and her unborn child~

like not “oh baby needs a father” but “i want my kid to be part of something that ISN’T shifting sands” and that there’s more likely a legacy for the kid if it’s Tom vs Kendall bc ob w kendall the whole thing’s in flames within a month

like yes she is out for herself always but now she is selfishly choosing for the both of them, ruthlessly so

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 29 May 2023 19:13 (three years ago)

Best show, it'll be missed. So sharp and brutal and funny and got out on a peak vs being stretched out, a final season split in two, etc.

omar little, Monday, 29 May 2023 19:26 (three years ago)

yeah i was disappointed they were doing four seasons instead of five but it was perfect

lag∞n, Monday, 29 May 2023 19:39 (three years ago)

Yeah it had to go like this, starting the show at the moment the kids realize it'll be up for grabs soon and ending just as that opportunity forever evaporates

omar little, Monday, 29 May 2023 19:45 (three years ago)

shoutout to the poor sod who had to ride the elevator down with suicidal Ken

also my childhood version was

silence in the courtyard
the judge is eating beans
his wife is in the bathtub
shooting submarines

no idea what it meant or where it came from but it was fun to shout

really? her withholding & denial of basic affection in this final ep i found really upsetting and heartbreaking

like her inability to care for Rome when he is at his most broken & vulnerable because of her own weird hangups just stung so hard but so flippantly tossed off like she was arachnophobic and he was making her hunt for spiders

her inviting them solely to be pitched
SERIOUSLY so fucked

even her meager offerings of food like she cannot, will not give them anything. not love, support, nourishment or even enjoyment

maybe it’s me coming from a childhood of emotional abuse but man i grew up with a version of that shit and it is as brutal and damaging as a punch to the face

and the way the siblings reach back to their own trauma & to their parents for the most effective tools to hurt each other, emotionally & physically is really stark in this episode

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 29 May 2023 21:10 (three years ago)

The Kendall/Roman hug and the way Kendall knows that Roman responds positively to pain because that was the only way he ever got attention 🫥

TY FRANCE HATES TEXAS CONFIRMED (gyac), Monday, 29 May 2023 21:13 (three years ago)

Shiv Truss with the ring pendant and what that symbolises or so I've read.

Felt a bit disappointed with it ending on Kendall on that way but some of that was just that it's ending and again I have no better ideas none.

nashwan, Monday, 29 May 2023 21:15 (three years ago)

the face-grab at the end was what got me

theviolence toward Rome is coming from the same brother who had once leaped to -defend- Rome from Logan’s beating
Ken now just fully metamorphosing -into- Logan without thought, like absolute muscle memory
awful

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 29 May 2023 21:19 (three years ago)

my read on the kendall/roman thing was partially ken helping make sure romans injuries looked legitimate enough, albeit in a weird way

call all destroyer, Monday, 29 May 2023 21:38 (three years ago)

reopening roman’s head wound was a fucked up scene with no one interpretation imo

even if the writers wanted one thing, it felt like love, Kendall enacting Logan’s cruelty, Roman visually leaning in — is he resisting? leaning into it? — and some shared acknowledgment that they’re not going to jettison the pain-inflicting inherent in this business
