i was pretty keen on Leeds getting a win today but they've just had "the bassist out of the Kaiser Chiefs" on the radio coverage so that's evaporated my enthusiasm

contrapuntal aversion (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 21 May 2023 12:18 (one year ago) link

Leeds home to Spurs next week so could obviously pick up three points but that's sometimes the sort of game where an indifferent Spurs team turns up and wins 4 nil or something

groovypanda, Sunday, 21 May 2023 16:26 (one year ago) link

they're fucked, corrupt Prem will ensure that Everton do Bournemouth or at least they'll keep playing until that happens

Always nice to see this one dusted off, but an interesting flex to use it about a game that's goalless imo

this game has been verging on slapstick comedy

I don't know about you all, but the message on the electronic billboard yesterday, "PLEASE LEAVE THE PITCH IMMEDIATELY," struck me as teddibly British.

super league comparison aint it but otherwise yes

i mean it ends right after the intro but

Ár an broc a mhic (darraghmac), Tuesday, 23 May 2023 09:48 (one year ago) link

city are breaking rules that the vast majority of other clubs are bound by or suffer the consequences and they are not suffering the consequences it is a fundamental issue

tbh id like to see the players and manager asked about it constantly

Ár an broc a mhic (darraghmac), Tuesday, 23 May 2023 09:49 (one year ago) link

imagine kevin de bruyne asked about this as often as harry kane is about leaving spurs

Ár an broc a mhic (darraghmac), Tuesday, 23 May 2023 09:50 (one year ago) link

They'd just stop talking to the media and the media needs them more tha they need the media tbh.

Reading got a points deduction and were consequently relegated for breaking FFP, albeit doing it very badly!

calzino, Tuesday, 23 May 2023 09:54 (one year ago) link

As the piece says football is a ground that plays with rules to the edge of them on the ground to no regulation off the ground.

It's become an issue because the mountains of money have actually been managed so well for once (compare City with PSG). Can't see it being stopped though wonder if Guardiola fucks off in a couple of seasons the mismanagement will begin again.

xp - a points deduction for City next season and Guardiola resigning on the back off it would be sweet.

Always had a whimsical idea of Kevin de bruyne as a Jonathan E from Rollerball figure, going to manchester central library and finding abu dhabi have had all the books digitised, that sort of thing

I think Guardiola might quit after they win the Champions League, i.e. after the 10th of June.

Maggot Bairn (Tom D.), Tuesday, 23 May 2023 10:05 (one year ago) link

as a cycling fan disagree with "in a sport where the correlation between power output and success is almost a straight line", plenty of people on Zwift/Peloton with the power output but wouldn't be able to do it on a wet Wednesday afternoon in Flanders

the waste of players id have been excited to see come to the league in almost any other context is sickening

If results hold, Everton is down

wasn't even getting my excuses in early, Wolves have been checked out since we've been safe

two grills one tap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 28 May 2023 16:24 (one year ago) link

And if results hold palace won't finish above chelsea after all, despite the enormous advantage we have in facing wayne hennessey rather than keylor navas in the forest goal

Villa making hard work of it, all three goals in the game were slick and clever.

Brighton seem like they might still be very angry about the display of shithousey timewasting Villa beat them with in the November game

going off Twitter a lot of Brighton fans just seem angry in general

feel strangely sanguine about the banishment of the vile revenant of the north, they were just so defanged and inept by the final stretch, it just felt like a dull inevitability rather than some hilarious cathartic triumph for the rest of football

Slightly disappointed Leicester went down, but I don't really dislike Everton enough to begrudge them grinding out a few good results when it mattered. Also the ones that did go down sometimes actually take points off the Villa

hiroyoshi tins in (Sgt. Biscuits), Sunday, 28 May 2023 19:49 (one year ago) link

I guess I mean just kind of "sure, whatever" rather than "sanguine" there. I'm not scouring their forums smashing beers and cackling insanely, basically

hiroyoshi tins in (Sgt. Biscuits), Sunday, 28 May 2023 19:50 (one year ago) link

Brighton, what a good side. Another big dice roll coming up for them I guess, perhaps some of their good players...should stay there

hiroyoshi tins in (Sgt. Biscuits), Sunday, 28 May 2023 19:53 (one year ago) link

happy for michael jones but would have liked everton gone. in general always pleased when all the newly promoted teams stay up. leics looked like they'd turned it around pre world cup but then tanked it immediately after the break. jesse marsh always seemed like a high positivity bullshit merchant to me.

4-4 at saints kinda sums up lfc's p abject season.

oscar bravo, Sunday, 28 May 2023 19:57 (one year ago) link

4-4 Saints doesn't really sum up our season at all. Speaking to a few people that went today and it's pretty much a resigned sneer, with a healthy long-suffering shrug of 'well, we get to go to Milwall'.

three weeks pass...

Can someone please fire Mason Mount into the sun so I can stop hearing stories about Utd possibly maybe making another bid for him, repeat ad infinitum in increments of 500k

hiroyoshi tins in (Sgt. Biscuits), Friday, 23 June 2023 22:19 (eleven months ago) link

think if that happened there would probably be even more reports about him on the news

Saudi Arabia buying every player in European football really could bring some fun to the game, leaving the best non league players going to Newcastle for 8 figures

It’s obviously horrendous on every different scale.

I'm into it, make the premier league more like the big south american leagues, where there's a more regular /egalitarian distribution of success as the good teams can't afford to hang onto their best players.

Keep waiting for one of these players to have an epiphany like Jonathan E in Rollerball, for some reason I always thought Kevin de Bruyne might be the guy

Toploader on the road, unite and take over (Bananaman Begins), Friday, 23 June 2023 23:03 (eleven months ago) link

Yes, I hope the Saudis hoover up as many players as they can.

Renaissance of the Celtic Trumpet (Tom D.), Friday, 23 June 2023 23:16 (eleven months ago) link

Its also possible Saudi Arabia may recognize UEFA member Isreal soon
