I think this implies some kind of savviness or sense of cunning that I think Elon just does not have. remember he desperately tried to back out of the deal and has attempted an emergency reversal of 75% of the decisions he's made after buying the company. it doesn't really feel like Twitter has had the power to drive the public discourse since Trump got banned. certainly one could argue that he's been trying to do that now that he was forced to go through with the deal but he turned the site into an joke on Day 1. in a few years I can't imagine the site being any more influential than Truth Social

To a lot of regular people it perhaps encapsulates a certain kind of helplessness, things out of their control, stuff that many of us have ignored for too long that can't be overlooked any longer. I dunno.

ran into this one tweeter who had tweeted threats to shoot, rape and kill two different people and listed the weapon they'd use to do it, and these tweets were like a week old, still sitting out there. crepey shit will always sneak through social media but when your CEO basically says anything goes, the already slow response time for reporting these things is pretty non-existent now, the bots seem to do all the hunting and killing of bad content, and only if you use the right combination of words.

Twitter pre-Musk has always struggled to keep the worst kind of far-right crap away from the site and I still don't see a lot of it.

Most of the people I follow haven't left and still post some good stuff on it. So no.

Despite the lack of any murders, this was possibly the grimmest episode yet.
