I saw her at the weekend playing Tectonics festival here in Glasgow and she was awesome. Apparently drove herself to Glasgow from southern Germany in a Vauxhall Corsa with her rather wonderful percussion set up, which is no mean feat, let alone at 82 or 83 years old. She seemed really nice too.

I've come across A LOT of good 17th- and 18th-century Quaker names over the past 3.5 years, as I've worked on my thesis. Now that my thesis is done and submission is near, it's time to share the more than 90 wildest early Quaker names I've found (in alphabetical order): pic.twitter.com/Qj18jPELMI— Isabella Rosner (@IsabellaRosner) May 16, 2023

I was recently in the Bahamas, flying into and out of Nassau. I am not sure you are all aware of this, but the airport there is named for the father of Bahamian independence: the honorable and most excellent Sir Lynden Pindling.
It's really quite difficult to be sad while saying the name "Lynden Pindling." Seriously, try it. I have lived a long time. Many tragedies have befallen me and my tribe. However, I have always been made happy while saying the words "snorkel" and "doily." To those, I add the name "Lynden Pindling."
Sure, being in the Bahamas is nice and all. But if the airport in Duluth or Buffalo or Kansas City were named after someone with a resplendent name like Lynden Pindling, I might reconsider those locales as vacation destinations.

i've been thinking recently of Eldon Shamblin and Lowman Pauling, two guitarists i really like listening to and who both made important developments to the emergence of rock N roll. they both had great names.

Okay so apparently "Fflyn" is like the actual name of a human person and not a Hobbit or Disney fairy or Vulcan or Narnian faun or whatever.

Ff- is a pretty standard way to begin a Welsh name.
― Madchen, Friday, 17 November 2023 13:22 (two years ago)
It makes more of a regular f sound since a single f sounds more like a v.
― Shifty Henry’s Swing Club (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 November 2023 13:40 (two years ago)
So ff is a letter in its own right, after f and before g and ng, which follows g.

Okay so for some reason I was googling former Vice President Daniel Tompkins.*
Found this wikigem:
Mangle Minthorne, an assistant alderman of New York City. The couple had eight children, including Arietta Minthorn Tompkins (born July 31, 1800), who married a son of Smith Thompson in 1818, and (Mangle) Minthorne Tompkins (December)
*= Probably because Christmas is coming and Daniel D. Tompkins is mentioned in "Miracle in 34th Street," which is one of the very few Christmas movies that I find even tolerable.
