lmao apparently there's this thing going around where if you put "former blue check" in your bio it'll give you the check back if you lost it. but now people are thinking it happens if you just modify your bio at all

I have some suspicions about why that would work and they all involve the reuse of existing account flags while changing functionality and doing some really sketchy boolean logic

updating your profile in certain ways probably does something with the check, since updating your name causes it to have to get re-verified or something right? god, what a mess. lmao

I got logged out on chrome but was able to log in again after a few tries. Some time later was logged out again, and was eventually able to log in again. Dunno what's going, in the end I guess I don't really care.

I can no longer log in on Chrome either, and since I work from home I'm rarely on my phone, so that was my primary way of reading Twitter and/or tweeting. This will cut my use down substantially.

This happened last week too and it cleared up. I'll gladly take the enforced break.

it's wild how all these wild machinations have yielded basically nothing in new revenue and lost millions. he could have just kept everything the same, not laid anyone off and just signed like a couple big ad deals with big companies and come out ahead.

advertisers did start fleeing as soon as the deal was announced tbf so by the time he took over he had a lot of work to do, and he did it poorly

i have multiple accounts logged in on mobile web but it's lost the primary one and won't let me switch to it or log in again.

lock out all your users is a cool disruptive innovation

seems clear the writing was on the wall for Twitter even before Elon bought it, I remember a few higher ups saying stuff like "we basically lucked into what Twitter became, but growth has slowed dramatically and we don't know how to turn things around"

so I don't really know what Elon could've done to turn it around, but it sure as shit seems like all his ideas so far have been bad ones. though tbh it is pretty funny that the choice to prioritize his own fans in the replies was the nail in the coffin, I know this ain't how he's gonna see it but it should be clear to Elon that Twitter is awful now because he just sucks so much

well theres a difference between being profitable but not growing enough to satisfy wall street and being unprofitable bleeding users and careening wildly towards bankruptcy

Before Elon it was probably the stuff that made Twitter better than Facebook, etc. that was keeping it from growing fast enough for Wall Street.

With Elon, it's the stink of incel and Nazi that causes money to speedily run away from it
