I think they’ll accept it. Everyone else wants it. I mean maybe Mattson is playing games but he seems like he actually wants the deal. Once he realized Kendall and Roman were trying to blow it up, he fucked them by going over the top (per Shiv’s advice that he could get it with a little bump in the price) and making it too good to turn down.

Of course there are still ways it could go wrong, but it seems like the sale is going through.

I loved how immediately Mattson saw what they were clumsily up to, another example of Ken and Rom not actually knowing how to do business. Mattson’s a toxic weirdo but he’s way out of their weight class in knowing what he’s doing.

funny thing is this is the best possible thing for the them they dont have a chance to tank their inherited empire now, tho maybe theyre just going to overpay for the nytimes and tank that instead

otm it was funny how they had this talk about being all subtle like only for their plan to be exposed immediately

best part was frank and karl putting on their compression socks. second best part was frank and karl sitting outside the sauna making fun of everyone else - "hanging in the window like peking duck." i love frank and (especially) karl.

I also loved that Mattson called Frank with the offer, knowing how much the Grays wanted the deal and their golden parachutes.

every interaction between tom and shiv since they decided to get divorced is like celestial writing

my impression was the waystar folks looked hopelessly provincial and inwardly focused. the episode was a bit frustrating though maybe that was intentional because the roy kids didn't really have a clear sense of purpose - deal / no deal; work together / undermine each other; be independent / stay home, the world is too scary

it was genuinely unsettling when Tom first reached out to flick Shiv's ear

that whole interaction was so funny they were acting like little kids

oh it definitely was, i was laughing when she was kicking rocks on his shoes, but it was initially really menacing when he reached for her (esp with the audience knowing what he presumably does not)

I uh may have been a little altered but I was intently watching the opening credits last night and kept thinking "those are the real Roys, these morose weird children alone in their decadent little world"

Yeah thought as the episode started the waystar folks seemed like rubes compared to Mattson and co, sharks from NYC becoming minnows elsewhere. Not particularly convinced that Mattson will emerge on top though; there are wild cards out there.

i know tom is supposed to be flailing after logan's death but they're really painting him as a totally incompetent boob in these episodes, just clumsily trying to glom on to anyone who could potentially be beneficial to his career. i don't think i love it, he's a goober but he's not a moron
