I’m surprised at the violent threats he is making on Truth Social. First off, why isn’t he on Twitter? Secondly, he seems to be burning the good will he was building with “moderate” Republicans who sympathized with his position that this indictment is politically motivated.

I guess it’s just his instinct—rile up the base. But January 6th style stuff didn’t really work out for him politically imo.

The thing is his instincts (such as they are) have mostly worked out for him over the course his lifetime. I'm sure he sees Jan. 6 mostly as a failure by other people to follow thru on what he knew needed to be done. No way he's going to change or moderate anything about his behavior now.

xp - I don't believe there's any nuanced thought behind the violent threats. He just believes that projecting maximum power is the key to 'winning'. This is just him dialing up the "fire and fury such as the world has never seen" rhetoric, figuring the other guy can't tell if he's just fronting. He's used to doubling down on this strategy until the other guy backs off. Basic bully stuff.
