once famous people are sick of being impersonated, I think their only option is to shut down their account and let everyone know (on Instagram) that any tweets you see are not theirs

imo musk won't reduce the cost because changing it would be an admission of failure. He won't call everyone a pedo for not paying up, because that would call attention to his failure, too. instead he'll defect attention away from the fiasco as best he can by churning out more attention-grabbing chaotic garbage in heroic quantities until he explodes or no one cares any more and the world stops looking. Or both.

genuinely baffled by what Elon thinks is going to happen open sourcing all this code. nobody is gonna do shit to improve it and it may lead to a bunch of backdoors being discovered. best case scenario he just finds new ways to embarrass himself.

I’m likely the only one bored enough to still occasionally check the For You tab so this is of limited interest. But they’ve significantly deteriorated the functionality over the past day.

Yesterday there was still a clear indication of why tweets were recommended as “For You” — if you clicked “Not interested” it would bring up a list of options such as “Show fewer follows from [X account you follow]”. That’s all gone now. It’s obvious there’s a lot more random Twitter-selected recommendations in For You since they made the change too.

We’ll see if they really go through with the promised self-defeating termination of legacy blue checks over the coming day.
