Is there a (preferably free) app I can download to my android phone or windows computer that would allow me to string together a bunch of still images into a longer animation? I want to create an animated music video.

i don't know one, but i bet there is! not sure about one that would be suitable for minutes of animation though - even at only 10 fps that's still 600 images per minute. animation is a giant pain in the ass

thank you! it was kind of an old school gif in the sense that i had to drastically reduce the size and quality (the "lossiness" when saving a GIF) in order to get it down to a manageable file size

I’m intrigued with the woman staring as black and white curves shapes. I can’t tell if that’s just reusing an old canvas or trying to already work out the shading on her torso?

I’ve been trying to pick up painting as a post-sobriety hobbie but as I’m starting from scratch, it is not getting me very far. I try to do at least 30 minutes a day, or barring that, 30 minutes of watching others on YouTube because I have no idea what I’m doing.

it's really nice of you to take the time notice that, especially since the early versions of are hard to see in the animation! you're right, i was painting over an old canvas. i've been painting over a lot of my first paintings recently, which were all acrylic. it's fine to use oil on top of acrylics, but acrylics on oil doesn't work.

originally i intended to keep the part of the original acrylic painting that i liked (the part on the right side of the first image, which i saw as a figure kind of being blown away from the target - it had something to do with my dad and being unable to penetrate or understand him, and also a lot to do with me being drunk too much at that time), but pretty soon it all got covered up. in that last image you can also see a bit of newspaper in the middle - there were two small puncture holes in the original canvas, so i thought i'd integrate newspaper into the oil repainting to cover it up. it didn't work (newspaper kept peeling off) so i ended up patching the hole with masking tape on the verso/back side of the canvas. anyway - a painting like this that takes forever and has so many reworkings always feels like a journey and you want to tell someone about what happened, so thank you for asking :)

what kinds of paintings are you doing so far? acrylic, oil? whose youtubes are you watching? and are you kind of working abstractly, or doing still lives, nature, figures? all at once? i love to talk painting and would love to see what you're making if you want to post them in this thread

I’m doing a bit of everything. I just wanna learn. I spent two weeks learning how to pore paint and making abstract shapes. I then got bored and started doing acrylic painting of flowers. Now I’ve got bored of that and feel like I need to find a third thing. I figure if I just keep going I’ll eventually find something that sticks.

YouTube just started with half remembering things my ex girlfriend did and finding instructional videos for them, like the paint pouring. She was an abstract painter still trying to pretend it was still the height of all those drunks in 50s New York. Then I’d let it recommend stuff and auto play and you would get more interesting stuff, like bbc4 documentaries about abstract painters talking about how they worked. It was more of a thing in the background that I was only half paying attention to, so I can’t actually remember any names of good videos to recommend
