A lot of people that showed up on 1/6 expected nothing to happen to them because they thought Trump's army/national guard/etc would protect them. Or swoop in and join them

A few of them were quoted in the press as being shocked when this didn't happen.

across the various wingnut channels when people suggest showing up somewhere with guns or whatever half the responses are accusing it of being a fed honeypot, mostly theyre not really cut out for that sort of thing on jan 6 they just thought they were allowed to

I also suspect the authorities will be more aggressive in putting them down, and the wingnut warriors know that.

I do think the right wing militia groups are still scary and in FL the Three Percenters literally showed up to 'protect' the Flagler school board from a trans activist group that was protesting it and brought weapons and armor and intimidated and shouted hate invective at them and even tried to follow some of them home.

that's the shit that keeps me up at night. the activist group didn't buckle though.

fwiw I did listen to an Ezra Klein podcast about this and his conclusion is that people shouldn't get their hopes up about the Stormy Daniels thing, in fact of the 20+ investigations Trump is currently under it's one of the least promising. the GA election interference and classified docs investigations are not only way stronger cases but obviously much more serious and damaging felonies. they're also cases which have won every mid-course court battle and the GA thing is about as open and shut as you can get. for political reasons you wouldn't really want *this* to be the thing he first gets indicted for anyway.

i'm sure that's true, at the point just annoyed for how many outlets fell for his self-serving bullshit so easily (last I saw he'd pulled in $1.5 million since his "arrest" claim)

but i don't think he'll ever be indicted for any of those other investigations either, this is all just nearly* meaningless show.

(* - obviously i'm all for this shit getting aired out and documented, so thankful for the investigations to at least pull that weight)

xpost - yeah the reporting is (unsurprisingly at this point) worded terribly. they aren't taking a month off, they are taking two weeks off starting April 10th. so the reality seems to be more "we won't hear anything more for probably a month" instead of an actual month long break.

The break is due in large part to a pre-scheduled two weeks off beginning April 10, the day after Easter, according to the people familiar with the situation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because grand jury proceedings are secret.
