I grew up in a cult. We had lots of rules (can’t cut hair, no makeup, no pants, no tv, no secular music, etc) and hierarchical leadership. We believed it was the “end times” so I lived in fear of doing anything wrong & being left behind. I exited on my own when I was 19. https://t.co/t6u7VlJE0T pic.twitter.com/0EzfqBICbA— Esther Crawford ✨ (@esthercrawford) April 16, 2022

― omar little, Monday, 27 February 2023 17:02 (three years ago)
I work for a reasonably large, publicly-held corporation and have coworkers who date back to the time, pre-buyouts and mergers, when it was a much smaller private company and worked in the same office. They have (or in most cases, had) a genuine enthusiasm for the products/services they developed, felt like they had a stake in their work, and genuinely believed in the brand as corny as that sounds
It's just utterly foreign to the 2023 job market and idk maybe that way of life still exists somewhere but to think that twitter dot com is one of those places is absolutely bonkers to me
― mh, Monday, 27 February 2023 17:04 (three years ago)
xxp twitter's not public anymore! I could see if you have that trad "we're building things unburdened by the whims of stockholders" mentality Elon buying it out could be a positive. I mean, maybe it could be, if it wasn't Elon

were severely limiting access to information about the company but will be issuing worthless stock
Musk is instituting a new stock comp structure for remaining employees, which he says will go live March 24th. Meanwhile, Twitter’s Slack remains down and Musk also disabled work Google Chat, making it hard for employees to figure out the full scope of his cuts.— Alex Heath (@alexeheath) February 27, 2023

i feel a liiiiitle bit bad for her because there are dozens of bootlickers who have been fired or are still on the payroll who deserve similar public shaming, but it's all focusing on her because she made the mistake of bragging about sleeping in the office, and she's a woman.
i'm sure she's solvent, but she came in as a senior exec of an acquired company with the stock schedule to go with it, and she's now been fired for cause, which means she likely went from being a paper multi-millionaire to ... not that over the weekend per https://esq.social/@annmlipton/109935966313883066. lol.

So my hypothesis went like this: Twitter is using invisible subreddits via Topics to algorithmically organize tweets. Because the For You page isn’t chronological anymore, viral tweets can’t be as timely as they used to be. They have to be kind of evergreen. It helps if they’re commenting on something that’s already going viral. And it really helps if you post a thread, reply to yourself, or create some kind of discussion in the replies. There also seems to be a bigger emphasis on video now....Anyways, I can safely say I understand how Twitter works now. It’s basically just Reddit moving at the speed of Tumblr.

― I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 27 February 2023 20:39 (three years ago)
The biggest change when I click on "For You" is that I start seeing all the gay porn tweets one of my followers likes.

dragging anyone for being raised in a cult is nagl (even esther crawford)
― micah, Monday, 27 February 2023 22:00 (three years ago)
I don't think anyone itt is dragging her for being raised in a cult, they are dragging her for her Elon bootlicking. The former wasn't her choice, but the latter definitely is.
― Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 27 February 2023 22:02 (three years ago)
I can understand the confusion. We’re dragging her for that Burning Man wedding picture and burners are kind of culty, and for having faith that her hard work at twitter would curry Elon’s favor, when twitter under Elon is culty
I don’t think anyone is mocking the actual cult experience, although it does raise questions
― mh, Monday, 27 February 2023 23:24 (three years ago)

how, in the Name of God, has no one called for this to be the new board description, in the seven hours, SEVEN HOURS I SAY, since it was most nobly posted? for the love of all that is holy.
― J Edgar Noothgrush (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Tuesday, 28 February 2023 00:27 (three years ago)
I mean the whole "why is she still bootlicking after they betrayed her" thing is a little undeserved, unfortunately if you are a lets say 'ambitious' person you really can't talk shit about your former employer even if they really fucked you over. my wife went through that and it sucks. everything else about her is fair game though
― frogbs, Tuesday, 28 February 2023 00:36 (three years ago)
