its definitely not Eriksvägen, it's something like Er_s_vägen and that first blank could be 2 letters
― ciderpress, Friday, 24 February 2023 18:29 (three years ago)
i guess its not impossible for the first letter to be K and not E as well
― ciderpress, Friday, 24 February 2023 18:30 (three years ago)
What it looks closest to is "Erik s:t vägen"
"s:t" being the Sverige abbreviation for "Sankt" (a.k.a. Saint)
I have found "S:t Erik Vägen" in other places in Sweden (and a few "Sankt Erik Vägen") but no incidence of "Erik S:t Vägen" or any reason why the placement of the honorific would be reversed like that, if it is in fact an "s:t" that I'm seeing

Eriksövägen, Vaxholm, Stockholm County, Sweden
awesome work
― nxd, Friday, 24 February 2023 22:10 (three years ago)
great job! and that letter in between was the key: the secret too
first view. it says "PARKGRILLEN" on the snack bar.
second view, the cemetery.

important detail:
For historical reasons it has always been referred to as a city, despite the small number of inhabitants, which as of 2010 total was 4,857.

Great work - well done!
I took great care with the visible text in the first image, and then I could have kicked myself when I realised I left that street sign in at the edge of picture #3. But at least it caused a bit of confusion.
I have walked down the road in these pictures many times. I realise it looks a bit grim from these views, but if you go on past Parkgrillen, you reach the bustling harbour town, the first and biggest stop in the archipelago for all the boats from Stockholm. There is a large fortress, many shops and cafes, a beach, loads of tourists. Vaxholm does feel very much like a town rather than a city, but as breastcrawl just pointed out, it clings to its tenuous city designation, hence qualifying for the competition.

That was a good one, and I was pretty wide of the mark, I'd found a few false trails in Gothenburg and was too reluctant to let it go and focus elsewhere

thanks for putting me out of my misery fgti! Google kept trying to send me to thrift stores called Erikshjälpen.
― kinder, Saturday, 25 February 2023 13:20 (three years ago)
I was in Stockholm last fall, and almost took the boat to Vaxholm for the day. Maybe if I'd gone, I'd have recognized it.

Stockholm was my last trip abroad.... many years ago. just renewed my passport, can't wait to go somewhere.

If the white circular thing is a thermometer (which it might not be) then it's in fahrenheit which would mean we're in the US. The filter coffee, the bible quote on the screen and the look of the family in the photos would appear to confirm this.
― Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 1 March 2023 21:57 (three years ago)
That looks like a Mr Coffee coffeemaker too. And I have a cheap wine carafe just like that one, Gallo, I think.
― nickn, Wednesday, 1 March 2023 23:07 (three years ago)
It looks like that in the photo, but it's really "the heavens declare". The same image can be found in a few places, including on this page: https://deebrestin.com/2014/05/the-lords-two-great-books-psalm-19/. Running an image search off that one hasn't taken me anywhere particularly useful though.
― Eyeball Kicks, Thursday, 2 March 2023 13:29 (three years ago)
Seems like the best lead would be to try to identify that logo on the top of the letterhead and on the business card. Very blurry though.
― o. nate, Thursday, 2 March 2023 16:49 (three years ago)
The heavens declare the glory of God; the firmament shows his handiwork.
The thermometer is in Farenheit and it's a pretty mild day, around 70 degrees.
Looks like some decent forest cover in the window reflection.

― let us now celebrate ama ‘piano’ smith & the clowns (breastcrawl), Thursday, 2 March 2023 17:33 (three years ago)
I guess the thermometer shows the temperature inside?
― immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 2 March 2023 17:36 (three years ago)
the reflection outside the window could be anywhere green that has tower blocks but the cubicle setup alone made me think USA too tbh
― StanM, Thursday, 2 March 2023 20:14 (three years ago)
otoh, IS this a cubicle? do they generally/ever have those wide windows (are they windows?)
― StanM, Thursday, 2 March 2023 20:17 (three years ago)
I think it's a mirror?
― immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 2 March 2023 20:19 (three years ago)
I think it's "The Heavens Declare The G(lory of God)", not dictate. Psalm 19
There appears to be a body of water in the reflection behind the photographer, and the light in the photos (and the manner of dress) looks decisively Carolinian, Georgian, Floridian
― lurching toward (flamboyant goon tie included), Thursday, 2 March 2023 22:43 (three years ago)
Oh, didn't realise Eyeball Kicks had already made that conclusion regarding Psalm 19, my apologies
a round mirror on the right too?

I'm intrigued by the flip phone - who still has those? Google tells me they're still commonly used in Japan, but this obviously isn't Japan. I wonder if there are any regions in the US where they're more common?
― Zelda Zonk, Friday, 3 March 2023 00:49 (three years ago)
My guess is a small city somewhere in the Bible Belt. I'm guessing screensaver Bible quotes aren't so common on the East/West Coasts, and the family pics that suggest a warm climate
― Zelda Zonk, Friday, 3 March 2023 00:56 (three years ago)
just to the right of the big vertical tear (where the panoramic thing did its job) at the bottom, there's like a rectangular semi transparant thing with a black flap/cover - what IS that? A tablet case without the tablet? Or something related to this person's job that I just don't recognize?
― StanM, Friday, 3 March 2023 09:03 (three years ago)
oh - maybe it's the case for the tablet that's being used to make this picture, nevermind

Looking wintry and not so bible belt. Olde Worlde street lamps are quite distinctive, could be a clue. Grass is not very green, so somewhere that doesn't necessarily get a lot of rain. Another clue might be the strange way the double yellow lines start in one end in one line and start in another, that doesn't seem very typical
― Zelda Zonk, Sunday, 5 March 2023 22:17 (three years ago)
looks like the us plains to me, somewhere churchy.
― ꙮ (map), Sunday, 5 March 2023 22:37 (three years ago)
Have gone a street lamp rabbit hole and learned that the type featured here is known as a teardrop street lamp. But I can't find an exact match for it. Buildings all look administrative rather than commercial.
― Zelda Zonk, Sunday, 5 March 2023 22:38 (three years ago)
The double yellow looks like it's for a left turn lane (people driving right to left can only enter the lane when it goes single line, and likewise for people driving left to right). So maybe a short block but not unusual.
Looks too cold to be US South/Southwest (I think the grass is dead because it's winter, not low rainfall), and the main building in view looks more like a gov't or college facility than a business.
― nickn, Monday, 6 March 2023 01:24 (three years ago)

Columbus Ohio has streetlights like that, but - this one also has a light on the sidewalk side, and what looks like two cameras?
― Look closely, that is all. (doo dah), Monday, 6 March 2023 23:00 (three years ago)
Yes, I couldn't find any pics of streetlights like that with a light on the sidewalk side as well. If we can find that, we may be on to something.

Jefferson County Revenue Department in Birmingham, AL! The mulch landscaping looked like pine straw, which is common in the southeast U.S. I tried Atlanta and a few other places before spotting that skyscraper in Birmingham.

Jefferson County Revenue Department in Birmingham, AL it is!
I was going to do a photo of the desk pointing the other way but it wasn't different enough from the first one. With pics like that I always wonder will someone see something I didn't even notice (afterwards I did wonder if the big A for Alabama on the right of the pic might lead someone there)
