NEW: Twitter is planning to unveil a new policy as soon as this afternoon that only Blue subscribers will be able to use SMS-based two-factor authentication, according to company sources.— Zoë Schiffer (@ZoeSchiffer) February 17, 2023

tbf SMS-based 2FA is bad
― G. D’Arcy Cheesewright (silby), Friday, 17 February 2023 22:04 (three years ago)
its bad and prob almost no one really wants it but it also prob does help keep twitter a lil more secure and spam free which are things that are good for twitter the company
― lag∞n, Friday, 17 February 2023 22:16 (three years ago)
ppl are saying that there could be legal/regulatory problems with this too but idk what they mean
― lag∞n, Friday, 17 February 2023 22:19 (three years ago)
Coming soon: all non-“blue” subscribers must choose a password that rhymes with “password”

"assward"
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 17 February 2023 23:29 (three years ago)
for non-blue subscribers, if someone else tries to use a password that is already taken, it lets you know who it belongs to as well as their personal contact info so you can let them know that you would like to use their password that rhymes with password
― President of Destiny Encounters International (Karl Malone), Friday, 17 February 2023 23:30 (three years ago)
Obviously this is a stupid idea, but I do agree that using an authenticator is more secure so I decided to switch. It logged me out of other sesssions, and I logged back in. It sent me an sms code anyway.
― Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 18 February 2023 11:06 (three years ago)
Just opened the app now to be met with "You must remove two-factor authentication by 19 March 2023 to avoid losing access to Twitter"What a shit show.
― groovypanda, Saturday, 18 February 2023 12:02 (three years ago)
the phone app is broken as fuck ime
― satori enabler (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 18 February 2023 12:04 (three years ago)
Haha, yeah it's hit and miss if I'll ever get any more posts, lots of random clicking around until it updates
― Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 18 February 2023 13:25 (three years ago)
Gotta say twitter is accidentally been the best it's ever been. I am seeing less news -- it's gone to just about the right amount of news than the sorta overload it might've been -- and more of what some of the ppl I follow tweet. It's slowly becoming a less engaging app in a way, which is good but also surely means I will be surprised if it's left standing by the end of the year.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 18 February 2023 13:35 (three years ago)
Like I've seen way less on the earthquake in Turkey and Syria than I would've done six months ago..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 18 February 2023 13:36 (three years ago)
i've not had any new pr0n bots follow me now for a couple of weeks.there was a few months when i had to remove 2 or 3 bots a day from following me.

bragging
― symsymsym, Saturday, 18 February 2023 17:07 (three years ago)
yeah they nuked all the old ones too, i made a list of some of them trying to figure out what they were for but none of them even did anything except for post a few pics and follow some people then theyd go dormant, its weird, and now theyre all gone, all my friends gone
― lag∞n, Saturday, 18 February 2023 17:27 (three years ago)
i assumed it was due to the API access shutdown.
― mark e, Saturday, 18 February 2023 17:30 (three years ago)
afaict they havent actually changed anything with the api yet
― lag∞n, Saturday, 18 February 2023 17:31 (three years ago)
problem with musks many ideas is he doesnt have anyone to implement them, because he fired everyone
― lag∞n, Saturday, 18 February 2023 17:36 (three years ago)
also occurs to me that everything ive seen on social media bots/general manipulation is accompanied by people fucking with rooms full of phones ie theyre not using the api, which makes sense theres a greater verification/setup hurdle to using the api, and its prob easier to detect people fucking around with it
musk is trying to make this about bots but like with sms 2fa its really just him cutting off free services
― lag∞n, Saturday, 18 February 2023 17:43 (three years ago)
Just a constant stream of "Cannot retrieve tweets at this time, please try again later" atm
― groovypanda, Saturday, 18 February 2023 18:50 (three years ago)
yeah.i have been trying to respond to a tweet and getting that issue.

ya i kinda feel this. no idea if it’s true but i heard the algorithm is deemphasizing tweets with links to outside sites, which while it prob sucks for ppl who rely on twitter for self promotion (and also lol so stupid from a business pov) could be having a positive indirect effect if more tweets are self-contained
― flopson, Saturday, 18 February 2023 18:58 (three years ago)
Thank u Elon

is this a serious problem? really? speaking for "real women" no one particularly wants to be naked in a locker room or anywhere with strangers or possibly with anyone anywhere at any time naked or not. cannot believe this is an issue in good faith. https://t.co/AeYksQ6hR6— Joyce Carol Oates (@JoyceCarolOates) February 18, 2023

― Josefa, Sunday, 19 February 2023 21:57 (three years ago)
i hope she gets into it with jesse singal
true! mainstream media seizes upon highly atypical, microscopic samples of an issue that affects virtually no one, amplifies it maniacally, continues to focus upon it as if it were some sort of threat to the commonweal, & not an amplified paranoid-figment of media imagination. https://t.co/NekhibYvRK— Joyce Carol Oates (@JoyceCarolOates) February 19, 2023

the sentiment is good but doesnt have the visionary thought levels of her best work such as complaining about halloween decorations being insinuative to those who have been touched by death or of musing that there must be something good about isis
― lag∞n, Monday, 20 February 2023 03:20 (three years ago)
She tweeted this a year ago, fwiw:
US where millions of voters are roiled to a frenzy by the notion of trans persons existing but seem totally oblivious to political ploys to insure their perpetual servitude in low paying jobs & pathetic health care.— Joyce Carol Oates (@JoyceCarolOates) April 5, 2022

― Josefa, Friday, 24 February 2023 01:43 (three years ago)
didn't take long to get back to the era where you'd click a trending topic and it would just be a bunch of random stuff with the same assortment of hashtags which had nothing to do with the post for whatever reason
