Laughable to me that people think Insta is worse than Twitter, demonstrably false afaic
― Goose Bigelow, Fowl Gigolo (the table is the table), Friday, 20 January 2023 16:43 (one year ago) link
twitter is def better than instagram but its also prob worse, theres some good stuff on instagram but overall its pretty blah, lot of marketing brain aspiring marketing brain and so forth
― lag∞n, Friday, 20 January 2023 16:45 (one year ago) link
one thing twitter has going for it is its so rowdy that its somewhat resistant to that sort of thing
― lag∞n, Friday, 20 January 2023 16:46 (one year ago) link
instagram (and maybe tiktok now?) is funny because way back to the blog era people were really into the whole “cultivating an aesthetic” thing in lieu of having a personality and now the high follower accounts are “what is my shtick and how can I monetize it?” and there are endless people doing silly dances or making weird faces at the camera in identical white and stainless steel kitchens

― 龜, Friday, 20 January 2023 16:48 (one year ago) link
theres a mostly sad but kind of lol cycle with influencers where they get big followings by a cultivating an aesthetic following their bliss approach but inevitably their audiences will get board with them and they have to start working for the views doing dances hopping on trends and so forth, i saw a video by one of the paul brothers a while ago where he was doing this really involved craft project that clearly took all day if not more and was like wow they really put him to work lol
― lag∞n, Friday, 20 January 2023 16:53 (one year ago) link
I think that’s what the reinstated right wing grift types on the site don’t get. Nobody is checking them out anymore because that project is over and people are into different shit now
― mh, Friday, 20 January 2023 17:03 (one year ago) link
yeah saw some thing about the video site rumble where theyve brought on all these big names greenwald charlie kirk etc but their view counts have total cratered and the stuff thats getting eyeballs is like about pre ice age advanced civilizations ancient aliens type shit they managed to attract an audience that loves very stupid conspiracy theories but theyve tired of the politics ones and have moved on to other stuff

i was going to ask which one, but no bjorn lomborg is doing the exact same thing he's been doing for 20 years+ now. he's one of those people that, when he dies, like 1% of humanity will intensely celebrate and everyone else will have no idea who he is

I don't know a lot about Russell Brand except that people used to post clips of him saying some liberal stuff in a British accent, and now I see clips of him with like Jordan Peterson and Amanda Palmer.

Like Twitter, I guess, Insta is all about curating the feed. I mostly get rad stuff from friends, artists, publishers I like, and trans teenagers posting outrageous shitposting memes.

IIRC, someone here (Mike, maybe) predicted that Twitter would quickly shutter their generous media uploads. It appears that’s happened. Try copying an image from a browser tab (“Copy Image”) then pasting it into a tweet. It now pastes the URL rather than the image.

I don't engage at all on twitter, just read the posts, and the app doesn't default to a choice for me, it stays with what I pick
I've recently been liking "For You" more than "Following", but I look at both

I come and go with actual twitter but even during periods where I wasn’t reading it, I follow a handful of people via my rss reader feedbin. Easy way to jay get a couple of accounts you want to read and not go there.

it's just one climate dude's experience, but i've been following him for several years (he posts a lot of climate change visualizations with regular updates) and he's not one to complain much about climate deniers
This is a pretty unassuming climate tweet, but look at the replies… This website has become such a mess. https://t.co/YCfxjuSYqm— Zack Labe (@ZLabe) January 22, 2023

Not sure I've ever seen any video/forum post/article/etc. on climate change (outside of Gawker comments and ILX, though maybe we had a denier or two at some point) that didn't have a wide variety of assholes in the comments and replies.

i think the point of his tweet is that it has gotten notably worse on twitter, at least for him
― Karl Malone, Sunday, 22 January 2023 23:29 (one year ago) link
My guess is that the continual push to "For You" is an attempt to hide the total lack of activity compared to your usual feed; predicting "tumbleweeds" will trend soon.
