wld be funny if they nuked all third party apps and tweetdeck as part of their project to alienate advertisers
― lag∞n, Sunday, 15 January 2023 18:36 (three years ago)
Yeah, I dug a little more:
Welp, all the people I've met over the years at Twitter/working on Tweetdeck either left or got laid off. Make of that what you want but: oof. 🫡— Damien ✨ (@Eramdam) November 18, 2022

It’s back for me on tweetbot! Long dark nightmare is over.
― Jeff, Sunday, 15 January 2023 19:48 (three years ago)
tweetdeck is hackable (just js/html/css) and people have been adding little tweaks like that for a long time
― mh, Sunday, 15 January 2023 19:50 (three years ago)
I’m so behind.
― Jeff, Sunday, 15 January 2023 19:56 (three years ago)
idk it’s got a weird interface and is for businesses and perverts
― mh, Sunday, 15 January 2023 19:58 (three years ago)
tweetbot working here, too!
― bit high, bitch (gyac), Sunday, 15 January 2023 20:00 (three years ago)
it’s a diff project called “Better Tweetdeck” and the original dev sold Tweetdeck to twitter in 2011 or thereabouts
― mh, Sunday, 15 January 2023 20:03 (three years ago)
uh oh, looking at a single accounts tweets on tweetbot still not working :(
― mh, Sunday, 15 January 2023 20:08 (three years ago)
Sheen Austin, who joined Twitter from Tesla, is out. He led the infrastructure team after Musk laid off Nelson Abramson. No details yet as to why.— Zoë Schiffer (@ZoeSchiffer) January 15, 2023
Hearing that he resigned from Tesla and left Twitter as a result.— Zoë Schiffer (@ZoeSchiffer) January 15, 2023
― lag∞n, Sunday, 15 January 2023 20:09 (three years ago)
xps yeah major wires crossed on my part, I was misreading something that made me think he was the original dev.

i thought twitter bought tweetdeck at some point

Gold check accounts have a square userpic now for no reason I can discern other than making twitter uglier to look at.
― ⓓⓡ (Johnny Fever), Monday, 16 January 2023 01:13 (three years ago)
It seems tweetbot switched their API keys and it worked for a hot second, but now gone again.
― Jeff, Monday, 16 January 2023 02:28 (three years ago)
Gold check reminds me of the uk pol concept of piss diamonds.
― 𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 16 January 2023 02:36 (three years ago)
Gotta say 'following' is the site at the best it's ever been. It's just what the 300 or so accounts I follow post/like/retweet. There is less of Musk or any other crap than I've seen since he took over. Surely it won't last but I am enjoying it. Take out the ads and it would've been close to perfect.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 16 January 2023 14:40 (three years ago)
I don't spent as much time on the app as I used to either.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 16 January 2023 14:41 (three years ago)
that’s how I’ve been viewing twitter for years w/tweetbot
― mh, Monday, 16 January 2023 14:46 (three years ago)
Lol I had no idea that option was on the table. Knew it was too good to be true that the cunt had come up with something useful.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 16 January 2023 14:50 (three years ago)
I'm a very, very light user of Twitter (I've barely posted anything since 2019), but I don't think I know what ppl mean by ads? I don't think I ever see any? Nothing in my "Following" feed that is being pushed at me as far as I can tell.
― Michael Jones, Monday, 16 January 2023 14:54 (three years ago)
there are fewer ads right now because no one’s paying for them, but I was seeing an ad every 50 - 100 tweets on the web yesterday
― mh, Monday, 16 January 2023 15:01 (three years ago)
Some great stuff in that auction. Tables! Chairs! Espresso machines! N95 masks! Would bid if I were in SF.

Yes, the Eames, Bertoia and Risom! And a box of 58 Apple Magsafe power adaptors :)
― Michael Jones, Monday, 16 January 2023 15:11 (three years ago)
there was a decent article on the history of twitter apps but the short version is:twitter predates apps, the following-only chronological timeline was the former default, several iOS apps popped up (Twitterific first iirc?) and twitter only had an official app after they bought Tweetie in 2010. I think algorithmic scroll was added around the same time period, although I think it was later. The official app got it, other apps maintained the following/chronological view. Note that @mentions, retweets, referring to posts as “tweets,” and a handful of other things were all adopted from the community and rolled into the site as features over several years
― mh, Monday, 16 January 2023 15:11 (three years ago)
xp the unopened thunderbolt 3 docks are still good imo!it’s funny because everything that’s used is starting around $25 and nearly everything that’s unopened and priced higher is for employee onboarding. modular work area furniture in a box, laptop docks, decent power strips
― mh, Monday, 16 January 2023 15:14 (three years ago)
Even without a third-party app, you could always avoid the algorithmic timeline in the Twitter app by tapping the little sparkly icon at the top to switch to Latest.
― jaymc, Monday, 16 January 2023 15:20 (three years ago)
oh, and my twitter “hack” of the day: if you go to the site on iOS and do the “add to home screen” action so you get it as a faux-app, it appears to keep you stuck on whichever timeline you pick and probably phones home less than the native appxp it doesn’t stick on latest, though, does it?
― mh, Monday, 16 January 2023 15:22 (three years ago)
I think if you hadn't logged on in a while it would automatically switch you back to Home (algorithmic), but I never had that problem.
― jaymc, Monday, 16 January 2023 15:23 (three years ago)
^^same. i think i pressed the little sparkly follow/recommended button at the top maybe 10 times over several years. otherwise it was on follow mode
― Karl Malone, Monday, 16 January 2023 15:56 (three years ago)
Yes it generally stuck to latest for me, however there were times when even that would include recommended tweets that I did not follow.

surprising no one, trump is coming back to twitter. he's also petitioning facebook to let him back on there.
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/donald-trump-prepares-return-facebook-twitter-rcna65809
Another Trump confidant who also didn’t want to be identified speaking about conversations with him said that Trump has sought input for weeks about hopping back on Twitter and that his campaign advisers have also workshopped ideas for his first tweet.

awards show season. just some riffing on celebrities at the grammys or oscars would be a classic trump bit but they’ll flub it and do something political
