he's trying to make Twitter a competitor to YouTube and Wordpress (??), which again begs the question of what exactly he thinks Twitter is and why he thinks people use it. what he's doing here is Bad Software Design 101, I'd say "this might actually kill Twitter" but it's Elon so it'll probably just never happen

I think once your tweet goes beyond 280 characters you should lose the ability to punctuate or insert line breaks. If you're gonna type 4000 characters it's gonna appear in a solid block of text.
