Christmas View

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Friday, 23 December 2022 08:25 (three years ago)

what ARE we looking at here - artificial snow ski slope kind of thing?

StanM, Friday, 23 December 2022 13:16 (three years ago)

more like the stands of a stadium, no?

the shaker intro bit the shaker outro in the tail, hard (breastcrawl), Friday, 23 December 2022 13:28 (three years ago)

I think the top of a ski slope looks right - the left hand side as we look at it has nothing behind it and the right hand side drops away

Hello I'm shitty gatsworth (aldo), Friday, 23 December 2022 16:24 (three years ago)

Looks like a solar farm?

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 23 December 2022 16:26 (three years ago)

To me it’s a river above the seating of a sports ground, with a railway line between. Looks like Europe maybe?

assert (matttkkkk), Friday, 23 December 2022 16:46 (three years ago)

Solar farm is a good call

Hello I'm shitty gatsworth (aldo), Saturday, 24 December 2022 14:09 (three years ago)

Yeah I don't think it can be a stadium, the shape is irregular and it's in a steep slope
The rest of the terrain is pretty flat if you look at the horizon but that "railway" (that I took to be road at first) looks like a funicular ?

Nabozo, Saturday, 24 December 2022 14:29 (three years ago)

Only viewing on my phone and not able to have a better look but from memory the big cemetery in Stuttgart is on a hill and has a funicular running behind it.

Hello I'm shitty gatsworth (aldo), Saturday, 24 December 2022 16:14 (three years ago)

Not sure it's got any water that close to it though.

Hello I'm shitty gatsworth (aldo), Saturday, 24 December 2022 16:15 (three years ago)

i think most of the appearance of a slope and the funny shape of the stadium seating towards the lower right is due to lens distortion. look at the the funny shapes of the trees over there and the blurriness. its possible the image has been cropped toward the right side of the frame which can introduce an apparent tilt.

it also looks like a standard railway, regular sleepers etc and catenary type that is common in germany and france at least. there are no signs of it being a funicular and i wouldn't expect to see a river or lake at the top of a hill.

the biggest clue might be the colour of the stadium seats but idk. could also be an odd or horseshoe shaped stadium which might indicate a particular sport?

micah, Saturday, 31 December 2022 10:34 (three years ago)

i'm voting for stadium - curiously the colour pattern isn't completely random, each block has the same pattern.

two

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Friday, 6 January 2023 14:43 (three years ago)

it's very flat. looks like a suspension bridge in the middle but the towers are very close together.

ledge, Friday, 6 January 2023 15:36 (three years ago)

Aren't parts of Germany pretty flat?

o. nate, Friday, 6 January 2023 22:09 (three years ago)

Getting Germany vibes too

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Friday, 6 January 2023 23:16 (three years ago)

germany, czechia, poland, hungary

ciderpress, Saturday, 7 January 2023 00:23 (three years ago)

the stadium chairs in the first pic do have the colours of the German flag, if that is something we should use as a clue...

StanM, Saturday, 7 January 2023 00:27 (three years ago)

There are an awful lot of green domed buildings in Germany - but I can't find this one.

Could this possibly be one of the lakes near Berlin?

Zelda Zonk, Saturday, 7 January 2023 00:47 (three years ago)

could be anywhere in Eastern Europe - even parts of Scandinavia maybe. Still no real ideas here :(

StanM, Saturday, 7 January 2023 13:59 (three years ago)

can we get a street view

micah, Wednesday, 11 January 2023 04:48 (three years ago)

That's certainly a very green city. What are those six white tower structures in the middle ?

Nabozo, Wednesday, 11 January 2023 08:35 (three years ago)

my searches for 'radio telescope' didn't turn up anything appropriate

koogs, Wednesday, 11 January 2023 13:57 (three years ago)

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Saturday, 21 January 2023 09:35 (three years ago)

I googled German tram stop and it was very close, then Polish tram stop and they have this blue sign.

Nabozo, Saturday, 21 January 2023 16:08 (three years ago)

I googled foetus in heart and it found the right picture but it's a stock illustration.

ledge, Saturday, 21 January 2023 16:42 (three years ago)

probably just a matter of finding that "black with green stripe and station name" tram stop enclosure. ive checked a bunch of central/eastern europe cities but havent found it yet, theres too many with trams

ciderpress, Saturday, 21 January 2023 18:01 (three years ago)

actually this looks more like a wider gauge "light rail" than a "tram"

ciderpress, Saturday, 21 January 2023 18:03 (three years ago)

but maybe they're called the same thing in europe

ciderpress, Saturday, 21 January 2023 18:03 (three years ago)

we’re in Poznań!

this is the second view:

that would be the speedway stadium, I guess - the first one is an athletics/track & field place

the shaker intro bit the shaker outro in the tail, hard (breastcrawl), Saturday, 21 January 2023 19:29 (three years ago)

oh whoops lol must have checked every other major polish city besides that one

here’s the third view with the tram stop:

oh wait i see what happened, those tram enclosures are new and only in 2021 footage i was looking at 2019 footage

ciderpress, Saturday, 21 January 2023 19:47 (three years ago)

that pretty distinct looking white/mint green domed building in the second view is the Church of St. John Vianney:

nice one! I was still in Germany :-(

StanM, Saturday, 21 January 2023 21:18 (three years ago)

Well done!

ledge, Saturday, 21 January 2023 21:24 (three years ago)

Glad that ones gone, found it difficult to pick a suitable streetview

The Golecin stadium has some interesting architecture

Look, and then guess

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Thursday, 26 January 2023 05:03 (three years ago)

Not much to go on! Romanesque architecture by the looks of it, possibly a castle, but could be just about anywhere in Western or Middle Europe

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 26 January 2023 05:37 (three years ago)

it's looking mildly shocked

StanM, Thursday, 26 January 2023 06:16 (three years ago)

Looks pretty old and tall and like a thick defense structure that was maybe converted in a residence. Given the color of the stone, I'd guess Southern part of Europe.

Nabozo, Thursday, 26 January 2023 08:59 (three years ago)

I would guess north italy

nxd, Thursday, 26 January 2023 14:11 (three years ago)

round arches = old
thick walls = old
bricks not irregularly shaped rocks = not as old
+/- modern windows = still lived in?

StanM, Thursday, 26 January 2023 16:53 (three years ago)

possible that the wall was built earlier, and the gun ports were installed later in life before a final conversion to windows

micah, Friday, 27 January 2023 03:34 (three years ago)

possible that the wall was built earlier, and the gun ports were MS-DOS was installed later in life before a final conversion to windows
