how many vodka shots had Taibbi had in that screengrab
― Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 December 2022 17:25 (three years ago)
I’m not gonna lie, I would love to create a shameless right wing persona that got me paid if I could write professionally and had lecture circuit contacts, with a long-term plan of revealing to my shock and amazement that the entire right wing sucks ferociously and that everyone who follows me should ditch the whole enterprise and become left wing/left-adjacent, but then I remember that I would have to sleep at night plus also the lack of professional writing ability and I realize I’m doing the adult version of recreating the first Star Wars trilogy with two action figures and random toys/household decorations that my parents had when I was a kid
― castanuts (DJP), Tuesday, 13 December 2022 18:15 (three years ago)
Have you seen what passes for professional writing on right wing websites?
― The Beatles were the first to popularize wokeism (President Keyes), Tuesday, 13 December 2022 18:21 (three years ago)
there are people who make big money pandering to wingnuts but its a competitive field, taibbi greenwald et al had the benefit of being big names, really they couldve done fine staying in their lanes, theyre at least somewhat doing it because they want to

The thing is, someone still generated all of that word vomit. I lose interest after like 250 words
― castanuts (DJP), Tuesday, 13 December 2022 18:28 (three years ago)
tbh that actually seems like a good use for AI writing: “write 3000 words about how the woke leftists made you realize that Ron Desantis is based,” wait for the Daily Wire checks to come rolling in
― JoeStork, Tuesday, 13 December 2022 18:34 (three years ago)
I've had this dream too. But back in high school I thought it might be cool to start a cult, but then I gradually realized that even if it succeeded, you'd just wind up spending all your time hanging out with people who genuinely believed things that you knew to be rank horseshit you made up for money, and that seems super depressing.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Tuesday, 13 December 2022 18:44 (three years ago)
starting a cult, becoming a wingnut influencer are things that seem easy because theyre dumb but actually take a certain kind of demented instinct to make work, check out the right wing d list on twitter, guys with 50k followers trying to grind it out with a podcast newsletter etc hoping to quit their day jobs
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 13 December 2022 18:48 (three years ago)
I mean, I would make an excellent undercover cop, but then I’d have to be a cop, and no.

Matt Taibbi tells Ben Shapiro that conservativism is appealing to young people because there's no sense of humor on the political left. thing about taibbi and greenwald is their politics were always pretty shallow and therefor changeable, just big rant guys more or less
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 December 2022 18:49 (three years ago)
tho with greenwald he was always kind of a libertarian weirdo so he didnt have far to go
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 December 2022 18:51 (three years ago)
is it too much to hope for some self reflection on the part of certain dudes on the left who spent so much time and energy defending these fucks from criticism?
they were always like this but for years you'd be harrassed relentlessly by their stans for pointing out the obvious

this was a review of another incoherent weirdo that traffics in these circles, but I revisited it yesterday and the first two paragraphs could easily be about taibbi https://www.bookforum.com/print/2603/thomas-chatterton-williams-s-confused-argument-for-a-post-racial-society-23610

― lag∞n, Thursday, 15 December 2022 16:41 (three years ago)
in this review (of a newer book) it’s mentioned that he once again mentions that relationship from his teens, but only to say she was hot or something if any of these people were pretending to do be journalists they’d remember that you’re supposed to put together facts in a way that shows a narrative of what happened, but calling them Incoherents is good imo because all of their writing is “here are a strict of e-mail messages or whatever — you know what this means” where there is no singular, comprehensible meaning
― mh, Thursday, 15 December 2022 18:43 (three years ago)
Or maybe he’s simply just stupid:
Once we had a standard in this country that the FBI had to at least have some indication of possible crime to initiate investigations. No longer. They can “pre-assess” at will, with no chargeable crime in sight, and people like you are fine with it. https://t.co/qhZMi1vutb— Matt Taibbi (@mtaibbi) December 19, 2022

This Taibbi-Weiss hearing was set up so that right wing cable news can use clips of it to amplify the narrative. The vast majority of people who don't inject FOX News directly into their veins probably won't even know the hearings happened.
