Uh, seeing preliminary reports that Christine McVie has passed away.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 30 November 2022 19:32 (three years ago)

xxp -- that's the most likely and the most direct link i guess, tho eno and the obscure label were plugging into phillips's presence on a pre-existing music circuit (the one that michael nyman's experimental music was also chronicling), plus his visual work and versions of a humument were certainly available as cultural information within the then alt.listings world

Obvs skeptical of anything on Twitter these days, but this message was also shared on what purports to be her official Instagram as well.

Sad to hear, and very sorry you've lost a friend!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 3 December 2022 23:20 (three years ago)

Hadn’t seen him since I left Montreal seven years ago, but we stayed in touch. He and his partner were wonderfully bawdy dinner guests. The last time I saw him he gave me a copy of Kaddish.

I've watched Christmas Eve on Sesame Street pretty much every holiday season since it first aired. Having lost both Luis and Bob in '22 is gonna make it rough going this year.

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 5 December 2022 03:22 (three years ago)

Love and thanks to you, Bob. May you rest in peace.

SQUIRREL MEAT!! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Monday, 5 December 2022 06:28 (three years ago)

The amazing thing about Bob was that he was probably the most naturalistic human performer on Sesame Street. He fully committed to the bit; you never got a winking-to-the-camera or I-am-putting-on-a-show-for-small-children feeling from him when he was talking to a muppet, he just acted like he was talking to another human being. Not something I noticed as a kid, but watching clips as an adult it's pretty amazing, and very difficult to pull off.

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 5 December 2022 12:20 (three years ago)

bob, luis and gordon were all fathers to me and america

RIP Bob!
Yeah, growing up in a very homogeneous rural part of California, I was mesmerized by the urban/cosmopolitan elements of Sesame Street; it was clearly a city and I think I wanted to see what a real city looked like.

Judi Dench's Human Hand (methanietanner), Monday, 5 December 2022 20:02 (three years ago)

So sad. Well loved worldwide obviously but also as a guy on the scene in NYC. I told the story when I posted about his disappearance on facebook last week, although I'd seen him around and seen the Mad Scene I never met him until I did the happy refugees reissue and they flew over to open up for Crystal Stilts in brooklyn. Hamish was at the show and the guys in Happy Refugees couldn't believe it, how cool was it that a member of the Clean was at their show! I put him on the list to come to the manhattan show the next night as well and I dj'd between bands, getting props from him for playing Clock DVA's 4 Hours, he came up to me and started singing along.
